Chapter 25: Delusions of Grandeur
Su Yiren immediately opened her eyes and looked up at him in astonishment.
Above her was his broad chest, and she could even hear his pounding heartbeat.
His loose pajamas hung down, brushing against her cheek, like a lover’s hand, gently teasing, incredibly ambiguous.
Su Yiren’s eyes flickered, her breathing becoming unsteady.
“What are you doing?” she asked softly.
“Hmm?”
Lu Yunting lowered his head, and under the light, her cheeks were flushed, her eyes dark and moist.
He was stunned for a moment before replying:
“Oh, turning off the light.”
With that, he stretched out his long arm and turned off the bedside lamp on her side.
The room plunged into darkness, only the small nightlight on the wall emitting a soft glow.
The corner of his pajamas brushed against Su Yiren’s cheek again, and she closed her eyes, unable to stop the panic in her heart.
To love someone, even if they are just unintentionally teasing, can make one’s heart flutter for a long time.
Su Yiren felt like she was truly terrible.
She had already chosen a dead end, yet she was still tripped up by the scenery along the way.
She took a deep breath, barely suppressing the panic in her heart.
Lu Yunting had already laid back down.
He suddenly remembered the scene before he turned off the light, she had looked at him with a pair of bright eyes, her gaze filled with both panic and a faint glimmer of light.
Just like the way she looked at him every time before.
Since they signed the divorce agreement, he hadn’t seen the light in her eyes anymore, that kind of cheerful spirit, even though she wasn’t doing well, she still insisted on making the best of it.
He felt strange, usually every time they shared a bed, he didn’t want to pay her any attention, he would just turn off the light and go to sleep.
But tonight, his mind kept replaying her image from this period:
Calm, proud, and arrogant.
Completely different from before.
She was like a wildflower that had accidentally fallen into a greenhouse, initially uncomfortable and unfamiliar, cautious in every way;
Now, out of the greenhouse, her branches and vines began to spread wildly, blooming brilliantly.
The two lay quietly for a while, Lu Yunting suddenly spoke, asking:
“Why is your face so red?”
Su Yiren subconsciously reached out to touch her face, the lingering warmth still smoothing against her palm.
She knew what was going on, but she didn’t want him to discover her thoughts, so she replied dryly:
“It’s too hot, I guess.”
Lu Yunting didn’t say anything, he directly adjusted the air conditioner to 16 degrees, the cold air instantly came rushing in, making Su Yiren shiver.
This man was really extreme!
Was he trying to freeze her to death?
She just said she was hot, and he adjusted it to such a low temperature?
She also remembered how he deliberately ate the remaining half of her strawberry after dinner, and suddenly she understood.
He must have done it on purpose!
Deliberately provoking her!
Thinking about it, Su Yiren immediately got up and reset the air conditioner to a normal temperature, then lay down.
Lu Yunting frowned, “Aren’t you hot?”
“It doesn’t have to be so low.” She covered her head with the blanket, answering in a muffled voice.
Lu Yunting saw her wrapping herself up like a big caterpillar, sleeping like that, the air wouldn’t circulate, without thinking, he pulled the blanket off,
“Show your head when you sleep.”
“I’m cold.” She covered her head again.
“Are you cold or hot!” Lu Yunting thought this woman was strange, one moment cold, the next moment hot.
Was she sick?
Thinking about this, he directly reached out, reaching into the blanket, wanting to touch her forehead to see if she had a fever.
Su Yiren let out a low cry, immediately turned over and sat up, the dim light illuminated the panic in her eyes.
“What are you doing?”
Lu Yunting also sat up, asking in confusion:
“Why are you so nervous?”
Su Yiren looked at his hand, then at his impatient expression,
“You’re the one who put your hand into my blanket, and you’re asking me why I’m nervous?”
Lu Yunting realized belatedly, his voice turning colder,
“Do you think I’m going to do something to you?”
Su Yiren pursed her lips, remaining silent.
If there was still a hint of doubt just now, seeing Lu Yunting’s calm and composed eyes, she immediately realized: she was overthinking.
Sure enough, Lu Yunting calmly retorted:
“We’ve been married for five years, I haven’t touched you, do you think I’m going to do anything to you now?”
This sentence was like a poisoned dart, instantly making Su Yiren unable to move.
Yes, he hadn’t touched her in five years of marriage, now they were about to divorce, could he possibly do anything untoward to her?
It was ridiculous.
Perhaps realizing that his words were inappropriate, Lu Yunting said in a low voice:
“Sorry, I didn’t mean anything by it.”
Su Yiren took a deep breath, suddenly smiled,
“You’re right, you haven’t touched me in five years of marriage, I must be a truly disgusting person.”
“I was just following the agreement.”
Lu Yunting couldn’t stand her self-deprecating attitude, he rarely explained himself:
“I adjusted the air conditioner because you said you were hot, don’t think too much about it.”
This sentence once again stimulated Su Yiren, the anger she had been holding back finally erupted,
“Yes, I’m thinking too much! I’m delusional! But since you want to divorce me, can you please stop pretending to care about me!”
Lu Yunting’s lips tightened, clearly angered as well,
“Su Yiren, you’re really being unreasonable.”
“Yes! I’m being unreasonable! I’m not as obedient and understanding as Ouyang Sasha, I’m not as kind and gentle as her, but I’m not begging you to stay with me either!”
Su Yiren’s voice trembled, unable to control her trembling body.
“Why are you bringing her up again!” Lu Yunting said angrily:
“You two are simply incomparable.”
Su Yiren nodded dejectedly,
“Yes, I’m not worthy of mentioning her, I’m not as good as her. In your eyes, I’m just a rag that can be discarded at will, she’s the precious and luxurious golden robe.”
“Unfathomable.” Lu Yunting didn’t bother arguing with her, he threw back the covers and got out of bed, directly pushing the door open and leaving.
Su Yiren angrily threw his pillow on the floor!
Bastard!
She really had a zombie eating her brain, why was she wasting her breath with this man!
Whether it was anger or something else, not long after, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach.
Like needles pricking her, the pain made her break out in a cold sweat.
Su Yiren turned off the air conditioner, curled up in the blanket, tears streaming down her face.
One drop, two drops, blurring the pillow.
It hurt so much…
Why did it hurt so much?
She couldn’t tell if it was her stomach or her heart that hurt, she couldn’t tell the difference anymore.
She curled up into a ball, like a wounded little animal, hugging herself tightly.
In the dead of night, a person’s pain and sorrow are often magnified several times.
Su Yiren held her icy lower abdomen, beads of sweat slowly oozing from her temples.
Even though she turned off the air conditioner, she still felt very cold, she wished she could add a few more blankets.
She endured for a long time but it didn’t get any better, she was in too much pain, she decided to call for help.
She reached out from under the blanket with one hand, struggling to reach for the phone on the bedside table.
Just then, the door opened, Lu Yunting walked in with a cold face.
