Chapter 37: Hidden Master
Qian Yueyue and Ouyang Shasha exchanged a glance, looking a bit clueless. But Sheng Jiaer exclaimed:
“That Silent One who won international awards at the age of six or seven?”
Ouyang Shasha asked back with a sour tone:
“Is this person very famous?”
Sheng Jiaer: “Of course! Her painting ‘ Girl Praying was sold for a sky-high price abroad! She herself is known as a rising star in the art world!”
Su Yiren felt her face heat up. She didn’t expect Sheng Jiaer to be knowledgeable in this field.
“But…” Sheng Jiaer was puzzled,
“I heard that her paintings are rarely sold. There are only a few on the market. Once a new work appears, it will be crazily bid for by many people. Mrs. Lu must have spent a lot of money on this painting, right? Why would she be willing to auction it?”
Su Yiren smiled, being modest and humble,
“It’s all for charity.”
All the proceeds from tonight’s auction will be used for charity. It’s normal for Su Yiren to say so.
Sheng Jiaer and Qian Yueyue kept praising her for being kind and generous. Ouyang Shasha, however, asked thoughtfully:
“Yiren, where did you buy this painting?”
“Through an acquaintance.” Su Yiren casually made up a story.
“I didn’t know you had such connections! Introduce me next time, I would love to buy one too!”
Su Yiren heard the doubt and sarcasm in her tone, smiled faintly,
“Why bother? You can just bid more money during the auction later.”
“Yes! It’s Silent One’s painting! It has extremely high collection value! Even if you resell it, you’ll make a fortune! Shasha, if you want it, be sure to bid later!” Sheng Jiaer, who loved stirring up trouble, kept urging her. Then she sighed regretfully,
“Oh, if my brother didn’t control my spending, I would have bought it home to show off!”
Ouyang Shasha didn’t expect Su Yiren to react so quickly. But since the words were already out, she couldn’t take them back. She could only twitch her lips, thinking disdainfully in her heart:
It’s just a little painter, how expensive can a painting be? Could it be more expensive than ‘Not Late’s’?
Qian Yueyue looked at this one and then that one, asking in confusion:
“Is this person really that good?”
“Of course!” Sheng Jiaer nodded repeatedly,
“By the way, do you know the painter ‘Not Late’?”
“I know this one!” Qian Yueyue exclaimed:
“A while ago, it was on the news that one of his paintings sold for eight figures!”
Sheng Jiaer’s eyes were filled with admiration:
“Yeah, yeah, let me tell you… This ‘Not Late’ is ‘Silent One’s’ junior brother.”
Qian Yueyue was shocked.
Ouyang Shasha also frowned.
She knew that ‘Not Late’s’ paintings were expensive. Before, to please Lu Yunting’s mother, she gritted her teeth and bought one to give to her.
But that painting only just crossed a million, and it was said to be a work that ‘Not Late’ himself wasn’t very satisfied with.
But what did it matter? Even if he wasn’t satisfied, it could still fetch a high price on the market.
Many people don’t buy paintings for appreciation, but to appear cultured. Most of them buy because of his fame.
And his paintings are hard to come by.
How many buyers truly understand painting and appreciate it?
Although Ouyang Shasha understood this, she was a little uneasy.
If ‘Not Late’s’ paintings could sell for eight figures, wouldn’t ‘Silent One’s’ sell for a sky-high price?
She suddenly started to feel the pain in her wallet, unsure whether she should spend such a large sum of money to save face.
Just as she was pondering, she heard a gentle male voice behind her,
“What are you three talking about?”
The three turned their heads and saw two young men standing behind them. The one on the left had a cold face and a stern expression. He stood there in a suit, exuding an imposing aura that made people dare not approach him.
It was Lu Yunting.
The one on the right, compared to him, was instantly gentle and approachable.
He was about the same height as Lu Yunting, but seemed to be slightly older. He was wearing a custom-made suit. His every move exuded elegance.
“Brother! You’re here!” Sheng Jiaer immediately walked over and took Sheng Tianhao’s arm, acting coquettishly,
“We were just talking about what treasures will be at the auction later! You have to give me some money!”
Sheng Tianhao flicked Sheng Jiaer’s nose, “Don’t spend money recklessly.”
Sheng Jiaer pouted, “But there’s a work by the painter ‘Silent One’ today! You know I love his paintings!”
“Really?” Sheng Tianhao was also taken aback.
“Of course it’s true!” Sheng Jiaer pointed at Su Yiren,
“Mrs. Lu brought it, saying she’s going to auction it! Brother~ If you don’t give me money, this painting might be bought by someone else! Shasha wants it too!”
In just a few words, she explained the situation.
Lu Yunting looked at Su Yiren with deep eyes and pursed his lips slightly.
He had already discovered this morning when he was looking through the paintings that all of them were signed ‘Silent One’.
After knowing her for so many years, this was the first time he knew she could paint, the first time he saw these paintings, and the first time he learned:
Su Yiren was the mysterious genius painter, Silent One, who was sought after by both domestic and international audiences at a young age.
Su Corporation CEO, designer Susan, painter Silent One…
Lu Yunting was surprised, but also found it funny:
She’s really a hidden master!
Su Yiren smiled as she listened to the conversation between the siblings. Suddenly, she noticed Lu Yunting’s gaze.
She casually glanced at him, then looked away as if she didn’t know him, not wanting to talk to him at all.
Ouyang Shasha, on the other hand, immediately went up to Lu Yunting when she saw him, saying softly:
“Ating~Why are you only coming now? I was just talking to Yiren about that painting!”
Her eyes rolled, and she suddenly had an idea. She spoke sweetly,
“I heard that painter is very famous~ I didn’t know before! I wish I could buy it~ But it must be very expensive.”
Su Yiren secretly sneered. This was a hint for Lu Yunting to bid for her, wasn’t it?
Feeling a little disgusted, she saw a familiar face in the distance and took the opportunity to leave under the pretense of greeting them.
Lu Yunting put one hand in his pocket and looked at Su Yiren’s slender back with a faint glint in his eyes.
She didn’t wear the dress he gave her…
Lu Yunting’s face showed a hint of displeasure, and even his tone was not so friendly.
“Since it’s so expensive, don’t buy it.”
He was merciless when it came to retorting, even to Ouyang Shasha,
“You didn’t even hear of it before anyway.”
