Chapter 4: The Priority of Labor in the Sixties
Gu Yu’s parents did not interfere with their affairs; they often helped out, worried that others would think they had too few people around.
The couple’s life was simple and plain.
Except for matters beyond their awareness.
After half a month, the village chief’s son, Liu Jianqun, suddenly fell into a trap and was found lying there for more than an hour; he was left with only half of his life, old wounds worsened by new ones, and both of his legs were broken.
Many villagers were secretly pleased; the village chief hurriedly took him to the town hospital by ox cart.
That night, while going to bed, Lin Muqing leaned close to Gu Yu’s ear and quietly asked, “Who set the trap for you?”
In the darkness was only the sound of their breaths and the bright moon outside the window.
Gu Yu swallowed hard, whispering softly, “Hmm, I found out that he put lard in the place I always pass when gathering firewood.”
Give a little sweetness, and a few hits, surely someone will help him.
“He deserves it! He had no right to do that!”
“He was supposed to get his injuries checked at the hospital, but his cart broke down on the way.”
The voice full of schadenfreude was close at hand, but Gu Yu could still smell a pleasant fragrance and sensed Lin Muqing’s heart beating.
“How delightful…” the voice was thickly raspy.
Lin Muqing regained his senses and realized he was too close; his arm rested on Gu Yu’s, his face pressed against his ear, half of his body leaning against him, continuously radiating warmth.
It had been almost a month, and at that moment, the effect of the supernatural pill peaked.
He quietly swallowed the pill.
He reached out a hand to lightly rest on Gu Yu’s flat body, feeling the hard abs.
With a fingertip, he pressed lightly.
Gu Yu obviously froze, alarmed; he instinctively wrapped his arms around Lin Muqing’s waist, tightening his grip ever so slightly.
Breath became erratic.
Lin Muqing lowered his voice.
“Gu Yu… I’m pregnant.”
Gu Yu’s sharply defined handsome face turned red in the dark like a shrimp.
His rough and large hand, calloused yet tender, covered Lin Muqing’s smooth, delicate right cheek, sending tremors through him.
“Why?” Gu Yu’s emotions surged, flipping over to press Lin Muqing down.
His strength inadvertently softened…
…
The next morning, the sunlight was dazzling.
[System: Host did not succeed in this hard-core situation! Always the main character!] The system had been struggling through the night.
“If he doesn’t pull me back and ask me, what will I do when I have to fully rely on my child? How will I do the hard labor?”
Lin Muqing rubbed his waist as he sat up; there was already no one beside him.
The sun shone in, glaring brightly; it was already nine o’clock.
After washing up, he headed to the kitchen.
Grandma Gu had white hair and was sitting in the sunlight, mending clothes at the kitchen door; the wrinkles on her face reflected the passage of time.
“You’re awake; there’s rice, soup, and eggs in the pot. Hurry up and eat something to fill your stomach,” said Grandma Gu.
“Thank you, Grandma.” Lin Muqing blushed, feeling a bit uncomfortable, knowing he had overslept while others were already working hard.
After breakfast, he chatted with Grandma Gu.
After watering the plants, he returned to his room to relax, having bought an agricultural book using a penny from the subsidy fund for education.
As the sun set, Gu Yu returned with a hoe and a bag.
“Wife, I’m back!”
When Lin Muqing heard his voice, he put down his book and ran into the kitchen, but when he saw the bag wriggling on the table, he was startled and jumped onto Gu Yu, tightly hugging his neck.
“Ah!”
“Don’t be afraid; it won’t come after us.” Gu Yu quickly and firmly held him, lifting him out of the kitchen, with a water bucket nearby.
The water splashed a little and settled steadily.
He adjusted his grip on Lin Muqing.
Even though he had gained some weight, in Gu Yu’s arms, who was nearly 1.9 meters tall, he felt light.
“I won’t eat this; let Grandpa Gu and the others have it.” Lin Muqing shook his head, worried that what was in the bag might be unsightly.
His eyes sparkled, scaring him into tears, his skin as white as a peeled lychee, making Gu Yu feel like he was holding a delicate piece of art.
Gu Yu gently touched Lin Muqing’s forehead, fond of him, and spoke in a rough voice to comfort him, “If you don’t like it, don’t eat it.”
Lin Muqing felt that this embrace was very warm, reluctant to leave, he patted his face and ran away.
Gu Yu watched Lin Muqing’s graceful figure, seemingly shy.
At night, Gu Yu returned to the room, holding Lin Muqing closely and kissing the corner of his lips, his muscles taut, as he leaned against Lin Muqing’s ear.
“Wife, I like you.”
Lin Muqing moved to the wall and looked up at his muscular figure, “Whether you want it or not, it’s time to sleep.”
“No pain.” Gu Yu pulled him into his arms and closed his eyes.
“Wife, I’m very obedient; do you like me?”
“I do.”
He liked this warmth, the companionship without loneliness, he liked his simple yet fierce protectiveness.
Lin Muqing felt he did not fit in well; he often found it hard to interact with others, but with this person, he became someone who could offer trust, often missing companionship, and having social engagements that caused him to return late.
In his experience, not always having companionship lasted long; sometimes he enjoyed being with others, while at other times he preferred solitude.
After half a month, his household registration was sorted out, and he began to earn work points.
He had become much stronger, finding it easy to carry water and chop firewood, breathing steadily, and even though he would sleep around four or five in the morning, he felt very energetic, with boundless strength every moment.
Meanwhile, Gu Yu finished the heavy work, chopping firewood every day, and along with him, Lin Muqing earned work points, cutting fodder for pigs, plowing fields, and planting rice, fully integrating into this new life.
“Gu Yu really hit the jackpot with this wife; she works efficiently and is strong, prettier than the village flower!”
“It’s no wonder she doesn’t pay attention to others, who would have thought that this woman has changed so much in just two months!”
“Forget Gu Yu; he’s totally lost in the embrace of this vixen.”
“I think they don’t realize it could be troubling.”
“No wonder they talk about the village chief’s son…”
“Let it go; she has come!”
Lin Muqing overheard a few elders gossiping together, her ears being very sensitive today, and she heard a few pieces of information, walking straight away from them.
