A Summer Night’s Affair
A Summer Night’s Affair Chapter 7

Chapter 7: Xu Family Sister

That night, many people were observing Xu En’tang, whispering among themselves.

Especially among the girls, a sense of crisis emerged.

“Who is that? I’ve never seen her before.”

“Why is she doing homework here? Who is she trying to show off to? What’s her angle?”

“It seems she was brought here by Lu Jin.”

“What? Lu Jin brought her here?”

“What’s their relationship?”

“I thought Meng Tian was the most likely candidate after Zhao Man went abroad, since they’re both similar types.”

A girl approached and whispered, “I asked He Jiayu about her. She’s the granddaughter of an old friend of the Lu family and is living at Fuyuan now.”

Meng Tian asked, “She’s living at Fuyuan? For how long?”

“It seems like she’ll be staying indefinitely.”

Seeing Meng Tian’s displeased expression, the girl reassured her, “Lu Jin hasn’t even acknowledged her; it looks like she came on her own.”

Meng Tian’s mood lightened a bit.

She picked up her phone, stood up, and sat down next to Lu Jin, getting very close.

The other girls watched with fiery eyes.

Lu Jin, casually scrolling through his phone, lifted his eyelids lazily to glance at her but said nothing.

Meng Tian felt pleased and asked, “Lu Jin, are you playing games?”

“I’ve been stuck at the qualifying rounds for days; can you help me out?”

Lu Jin replied, “I can’t tonight. Let He Jiayu help you.”

He Jiayu, who was busy teaming up with others, turned his head when he heard his name.

Meng Tian smiled and said, “Then never mind, maybe next time.”

He Jiayu knew she was there for Lu Jin, and her focus wasn’t really on the qualifying rounds.

“Then let Ah Jin take you next time.”

With that, he returned to his game.

After finishing a match, the large “defeat” on the screen raised He Jiayu’s blood pressure.

Just then, someone tapped him on the shoulder.

Who was so clueless?

Annoyed, He Jiayu turned to see it was Lu Jin, and his irritation dissipated instantly.

“What’s up, Ah Jin?”

Lu Jin replied, “I’m heading out.”

He Jiayu paused and asked, “Going home already? What time is it?”

Lu Jin answered, “I’m tired; I’m going back to sleep.”

He Jiayu was puzzled.

Tired before nine?

Lu Jin added, “Tell her I’m leaving.”

He Jiayu asked, “Meng Tian?”

Lu Jin looked at him.

He Jiayu realized, “Oh, oh, oh, the Xu family sister, right?”

In the following days, Xu En’tang accompanied Lu Jin after school.

No matter where he went, she was there beside him, doing her homework.

Tonight, Lu Jin attended someone else’s birthday party.

It was at a familiar venue.

“How come there’s someone here doing homework? Who is that inside?”

“That’s Xu En’tang, from our Grade 11 Class 2.”

“Isn’t she from the international department?”

“She came with Lu Jin. She’s been tagging along for several days now; wherever he goes, she follows.”

“She’s really with Lu Jin? Does he like this kind of girl?”

“Impossible! Lu Jin hasn’t said a word to her.”

“Well, she’s putting in a lot of effort. Is she trying to grab Lu Jin’s attention by doing homework in a place like this?”

The girls were buzzing with excitement.

One girl quietly nudged the arm of another girl nearby.

The girl, engrossed in the conversation, didn’t respond.

“He Jiayu just walked past.”

“Where?” The girl looked around.

“He’s walking over there”

“Ah! Why didn’t you remind me?”

“I wanted to, but you were too engrossed in the gossip.”

When Yu Chen walked by earlier, he unintentionally overheard the discussions among several girls and found it quite amusing.

“What’s with this new tactic of doing homework? First, a girl is competing in math contests for you, and now another is doing homework to chase after Lu Jin. The ways of pursuing someone are getting more creative.”

He became increasingly animated as he spoke. “I heard that girl broke down after studying competition problems all day; I wonder how she is now. If it were me, I’d definitely check in on her. Tan Jili, you’re quite the troublemaker.”

Tan Jili was focused on his phone, not looking up.

From his angle, the contour of his nose was quite distinct, marked by a tiny red mole.

“Is it possible that girls who like you don’t need to study competition problems?”

Yu Chen: “…”

“I’m just saying, it’s my birthday today; could you be a little nicer to your birthday boy?”

Tan Jili finally turned off his screen and lifted his head.

Yu Chen looked at him expectantly.

Tan Jili responded, “You can put in the effort and start learning math competitions from elementary school; it’s not impossible.”

Yu Chen: “…”

As expected, one shouldn’t expect anything good from that mouth.

Tonight, there were especially many people at the gathering.

In the large room with a swimming pool, every area was filled with guests.

Xu En’tang only learned that it was Yu Chen’s birthday after she arrived and overheard someone mention it.

In her previous life, she had been good friends with Yu Chen’s cousin, Yu Xiyue.

She wasn’t originally part of this circle, and after integrating into it, she occasionally faced difficulties. Yu Xiyue had helped her a lot.

As she scanned the room, she realized there were too many people and she couldn’t spot Yu Xiyue.

Xu En’tang continued to work on her homework.

Suddenly, the lights dimmed unexpectedly.

The lights in the room were turned off, leaving only ambient lighting, creating a very dim atmosphere.

Xu En’tang halted her pen.

She had just figured out the approach for the problem after thinking about it for a while.

Now that her thought process was clear, she was just a few steps away from solving it.

She picked up her phone, turned on the flashlight, and planned to finish the last few steps before finding another spot.

As the room went dark, it instantly transformed into a nightlife scene.

Someone jumped into the swimming pool, eliciting cheers from the crowd.

Tan Jili, scrolling through his phone, looked up at the sound and noticed a glimmer of light in the corner.

He called over a server, gesturing with his chin.

“Turn on the lights over there and bring a desk lamp.”

Meanwhile, He Jiayu was pulling Lu Jin and three others into a gaming session.

When the lights went out in the room, Lu Jin’s fingers paused ever so slightly.

A few minutes later, his phone screen dimmed as he waited for his character to respawn.

He Jiayu was also waiting to respawn.

Lu Jin said, “You go—”

Suddenly, the lights in one section flickered back on.

It shone brightly in that particular area.

He Jiayu was waiting for Lu Jin to continue speaking, only to find that he had said two words and then fell silent.

“Where to?” He Jiayu asked.

Lu Jin replied, “Nothing.”
