Chapter 55: She Wasn’t Lying

As soon as Su Yiren spoke, it was like a drop of water hitting a hot oil pan, instantly causing a commotion among certain people.

Ouyang Shasha, upon seeing it was Su Yiren again, immediately recalled the humiliation she had suffered at the door earlier.

She was truly forgetful, always ending up on the losing end when facing Su Yiren, yet she couldn’t stand seeing the other woman’s air of superiority.

“Miss Su, you’re joking, right? I don’t understand painting, but do you?”

Anger surged to her head, and she apparently forgot about the pretense of sisterhood she had maintained outside, even forgetting the previously used address of “Yiren.”

The Sheng siblings exchanged glances, both surprised by Ouyang Shasha’s use of “Miss Su.”

Was she openly trying to break with Su Yiren?

However, Su Yiren didn’t seem angry at all. In fact, she preferred Ouyang Shasha calling her “Miss Su” rather than “Mrs. Lu.”

She turned her wheelchair forward, stopping beneath the painting, and said in a calm voice:

“I said you don’t understand, not that you don’t understand painting.”

The difference was just one word, but the meaning changed entirely.

Ouyang Shasha raised an eyebrow, looking down at her with a condescending air,

“Everyone has different perspectives and preferences. You can’t say I don’t understand just because I have a different opinion.”

Su Yiren curled her lips, her face devoid of any amusement as she continued,

“The reason this painting isn’t by Bu Chi is threefold. Firstly, Bu Chi’s paintings usually have gentle and casual brushstrokes, with soft colors and relatively low saturation.”

“So what? Can’t he change his style? He’s a renowned painter, he can paint however he wants!”

Su Yiren didn’t interrupt her, waiting until she finished before continuing to address the painting,

“Secondly, Bu Chi never paints two identical paintings. I remember you said earlier that the position and color of the sunflowers in this painting are almost identical to the one you bought, right?”

Two ladies nearby immediately chimed in:

“Yes, I haven’t seen Bu Chi paint similar paintings either. Even if it’s the same plant, he’ll depict it from different angles.”

“Yeah, yeah, I’ve seen two of his wild rose paintings before, the composition and colors are completely different.”

“That’s just because you haven’t seen them. Maybe he wasn’t satisfied with this painting and repainted it!” Ouyang Shasha remained adamant in her belief.

Su Yiren was a little speechless. Seeing her insistent argument, she had no choice but to reveal the third point,

“Thirdly, the sunflower sea in this painting is a private estate. Bu Chi has never been there, so how could he have painted such a scene?”

Everyone was stunned.

Was there really such a thing?

This was actually painted in a private estate?

Ouyang Shasha, however, laughed, arms crossed, and said sarcastically:

“Miss Su, you’re so self-righteous! How would you know where Bu Chi goes to paint? How would you know where this sunflower field is? You’re just making it up, right?”

Su Yiren raised an eyebrow, truly speechless at this woman’s lack of intelligence.

More and more people gathered around, some to appreciate this unique piece, others to watch their debate.

Su Yiren looked at the crowd, feeling it was pointless to argue with Ouyang Shasha, and simply said,

“Believe what you want.”

Actually, when she saw the painting in the Lu family’s ancestral home, she already knew it was Bu Chi’s style. Although it was a copy, the composition and colors of that painting were slightly different from this one.

She knew Ouyang Shasha was lying, but she was merely trying to save face and show off her wealth and artistic talent.

Even so, she didn’t want to bring up that day’s incident and expose her.

Gossip could be dangerous, and she didn’t want to involve Jiang Jinyun.

The reason she spoke up was simply because she saw Sheng Jiaer feeling stifled and wanted to defend her, but this brainless Ouyang Shasha refused to back down and instead clung to her twisted logic.

How boring.

“I definitely don’t believe you!” Ouyang Shasha, seeing her about to leave, rushed forward to stop her,

“Miss Su, why are you leaving without explaining? You’re laughing at me for not understanding, but I think what you said is the real nonsense.”

Su Yiren looked up at her, suddenly smiling.

“What are you laughing at?” Ouyang Shasha felt her smile was sinister, making her hair stand on end.

“Laughing at you for not knowing when to stop.”

Su Yiren suddenly felt it was pointless to argue with her, it would only lower her own standards.

Ouyang Shasha immediately became furious,

“Su Yiren! You’re talking nonsense, making things up, and now you want to leave? Who gave you the confidence? You’re talking about a private sunflower estate, I think you’re the one making it up!”

“She’s not lying.” A cold voice came from outside the crowd.

Lu Yunting walked in with a cold face, scanning the crowd before finally focusing on the sunflower painting.

“This sunflower estate was built by my father.”

He then turned to Su Yiren, noticing the lack of emotion in her eyes, the absence of the surprised and joyful light she had when he brought her here.

A pang of discomfort in his heart, Lu Yunting shifted his gaze slightly and continued,

“No outsider has ever been inside except for the Lu family.”

“How do you prove that?” Ouyang Shasha wouldn’t let up,

“What if it’s just a coincidence? There are so many sunflower estates in the world, maybe Bu Chi has been to one that’s exactly the same!”

Lu Yunting coldly glanced at her, took a few steps forward to the painting, and pointed at a building in the farthest corner,

“This is the Lu family’s ancestral home.”

In the top corner of the painting, a small patch of houses was faintly visible, but the sunflowers were so vibrant and dazzling that it was impossible to see the small courtyard.

Hearing this, everyone turned their attention to the houses, suddenly understanding.

The old Lu patriarch held his birthday banquet at the ancestral home every year. Everyone present was a prominent figure in Jiangcheng, if not frequent visitors, they had at least been there once or twice.

Looking closely, the houses were indeed the Lu family’s ancestral home, although only a few strokes were used on the painting, the main structure and features were clearly visible.

Now everyone understood: the sunflower field in this painting was indeed the Lu family’s.

Ouyang Shasha had never heard of this field, nor had she ever been there. Now, hearing Lu Yunting’s words, she realized that Su Yiren must have been there before, otherwise, how could she have recognized it at a glance?

Jealousy surged within her, Ouyang Shasha refused to lose to her, and continued to retort,

“That doesn’t prove the painting isn’t by someone else! Maybe someone in your family took a photo that Bu Chi saw!”

Lu Yunting was simply furious!

This woman was so gentle and understanding before, why was she like a different person today?

He was about to say something, but Su Yiren turned her wheelchair over, stopping right next to the painting, and nonchalantly said,

“Fine, since you’re so insistent, I’ll tell you the most crucial point.”
