Chapter 72: It’s All My Fault
Manager Zhang’s face turned pale. He knew he was guilty but vehemently denied it.
“How is that possible? You must have mistaken someone!”
“How could I be mistaken?” Su Yiren said calmly. “I saw it clearly.”
Seeing her enigmatic smile and determined look, Manager Zhang panicked and blurted out, “The power went out at that time. How could you have seen clearly?”
His words stunned everyone.
Most of the people present had been at the charity auction and knew what had happened. Although some people had taken videos and posted them online, and the news had also reported on the incident, no one had mentioned the power outage.
Manager Zhang had not been at the scene. How did he know the power had gone out? And how did he know that Su Yiren had been pushed down the stairs during the power outage?
He was clearly adding insult to injury!
Manager Zhang was obviously flustered. He looked around, and the guests who had been whispering among themselves were now silent.
Lu Yunting took two steps forward and stood beside Su Yiren. His voice was low and soft, “Did someone push you down the stairs?”
Su Yiren nodded but didn’t want to elaborate. She didn’t think it was worth it.
Lu Yunting frowned slightly, and a fierce light flashed in his eyes.
He looked at Manager Zhang, whose face was filled with panic, and said in a deep voice, “Whether you admit it or not, the cameras have captured the whole process. To vent his anger, your son pushed an innocent person down the stairs, causing serious injuries. This is already a violation of the law.”
“How can she be innocent!” Manager Zhang, seeing that his lies were exposed, decided to go all out. “She stole Susan away, causing losses to Lu Corporation and putting employees at risk of losing their jobs! You are the CEO of Lu Corporation, but you don’t care about your employees. Now you’re defending this venomous woman! You’re a bunch of snakes!”
Lu Yunting’s anger was at its peak, but he had to suppress his rage at this moment.
“Susan didn’t leave because of her.”
Manager Zhang didn’t believe him and raised the stack of papers in his hand again.
“How is that possible! These materials aren’t fake!”
“I told you, Susan didn’t leave because of her!” Lu Yunting repeated, his voice filled with anger.
“Then what exactly happened! Tell me! If you’re afraid to tell the truth, don’t question what I said!” Manager Zhang completely disbelieved him and pressed him further.
Lu Jinhai slowly scanned the guests, their faces a mixture of emotions. He sighed deeply in his heart.
This would be a birthday he would never forget.
He coughed lightly, breaking the stalemate.
His gaze fell on Su Yiren’s face, and Lu Jinhai said in a deep voice, “Yiren, you tell us, what exactly happened.”
Su Yiren hesitated for a moment, her mind racing with thoughts. In the end, she decided to tell the truth.
She hadn’t thought about deliberately concealing her identity, but she just didn’t think it was necessary.
But if she didn’t reveal the truth now, she would surely be branded a “traitor.”
She didn’t want to return to Su Corporation with that title and be scorned by the world.
Just as she was about to speak, she heard Lu Yunting calmly reply, “It’s all my fault.”
Everyone looked at him. Lu Yunting slightly frowned, his jawline sharp, but the light in his eyes was firm.
She didn’t know why Lu Yunting said that. By taking all the blame, didn’t he know he would anger his grandfather?
Sure enough, as soon as he finished speaking, he heard Lu Jinhai scolding him angrily,
“You’re being reckless! Because of your impulsiveness, the factory closed down, and employees lost their jobs. Do you have any respect for everyone’s trust in the Lu family?”
“It’s all my fault.” Lu Yunting repeated his previous words, apparently not wanting to argue further.
Seeing that he wouldn’t speak anymore, Lu Jinhai sighed inwardly and said coldly, “Then deal with it according to family law.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the expressions of those present were varied and vivid.
Jiang Jinyun subconsciously clenched her fist, wanting to defend him, but the words died in her throat.
Sun Xiaoxia, however, was ecstatic, her heart soaring. Her eyes were filled with pride and excitement.
Manager Zhang, upon hearing this, immediately raised his head triumphantly, feeling that his trip was worthwhile.
Some of those present realized that Lu Jinhai was simply using the punishment of his grandson to appease Manager Zhang and the others, otherwise, this farce would have been impossible to resolve. But Ouyang Sasha felt uneasy. Lu Yunting was clearly taking sides with Su Yiren, afraid that she would anger his grandfather because of this incident and be kicked out of the Lu family!
Although she didn’t want to see Lu Yunting protecting Su Yiren, she also didn’t want to see his grandfather really punish him.
She immediately glanced at Bai Xiuping, who understood and seized the opportunity to ask,
“Mr. Lu, there’s something I don’t understand. Even if Mr. Lu had a disagreement with Susan over some trivial matter, why did Susan go to Su Corporation? It shouldn’t be that simple, right? Susan is a businesswoman after all. How could she break a contract with Lu Corporation over a trivial matter? Mr. Lu, you might have been deceived!”
Lu Jinhai remained silent, naturally understanding the implication of Bai Xiuping’s words, clearly hinting that Su Yiren was behind it all.
Lu Yunting also understood her implication and turned to look at Bai Xiuping, his gaze indifferent, unreadable,
“Mrs. Ouyang, some truths are that simple. Don’t overthink it.”
Sun Xiaoxia saw that Lu Jinhai’s face was getting darker and darker, and her mind moved. She immediately stepped forward and said,
“Dad, don’t get angry with Yunting. He’s still young, managing such a large company must be difficult, and he’s bound to make mistakes. Besides, it’s just a little money lost. Our Lu family is rich and powerful, we don’t care about this. As for those unemployed employees…” She glanced at Manager Zhang and raised her eyebrows,
“Just arrange another position for them. Yunting is your own grandson, raised by you. How can you let a few trivial matters affect your relationship with him? It’s not worth it!”
She was ostensibly pleading for Lu Yunting and persuading Lu Jinhai to relax, but in fact, every word was a jab at Lu Yunting, fueling Lu Jinhai’s anger.
Sure enough, Lu Jinhai’s eyes were filled with anger, and his breathing became heavy.
Seeing Lu Jinhai’s change, Jiang Jinyun felt uneasy and hurriedly said to Sun Xiaoxia,
“Second Sister-in-law, say less!”
Sun Xiaoxia blinked, “I didn’t say anything wrong, why can’t I say it?”
“Shut up!” Lu Jinhai was really about to be driven crazy by these people!
He looked at Lu Yunting, who remained unmoved, and pointed at him from a distance. Just as he was about to say something, he suddenly saw Su Yiren step forward, blocking him, and said softly,
“Susan’s new clothing designs were indeed sent to Su Corporation to be made and produced.”
Everyone present was somewhat surprised, including Lu Jinhai, who hadn’t expected Su Yiren to admit it.
But then, Su Yiren’s next words shocked everyone even more.
“But what’s wrong with that? I designed the clothes myself, so naturally, my factory can process and produce them.”
