Chapter 74: Not for Revenge
Lu Yunting’s lips twitched slightly. He didn’t answer but asked back:
“You’ve already made all the arrangements, do you still need to ask my opinion?”
Su Yiren looked at him, as if realizing something belatedly, and nodded:
“You’re right.” Then she looked away and continued to discuss some work details with Manager Zhang.
Lu Yunting: “…”
The feeling of being suddenly ignored was really infuriating.
Perhaps out of guilt, and also because of his admiration for Susan, Manager Zhang’s attitude was extremely good throughout the entire process, a complete contrast to his previous image of being resigned to his fate.
Until he finally left, he kept thanking and apologizing.
After he left, Lu Yunting said to Su Yiren:
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of his son.”
“Take care of what?” Su Yiren asked:
“I was just about to win him over, and you’re going to deal with his son? Are you trying to sabotage me?”
“I’m just getting revenge for you.” Lu Yunting blurted out, and even he was stunned after saying it.
Su Yiren didn’t expect him to say that either. After a long pause, she simply said “Oh,”
“Then forget it.”
Lu Yunting didn’t care, “Then all this pain you’ve endured will be in vain?”
Su Yiren didn’t want to let the person who pushed her down the stairs off the hook easily, so she hacked the auction hall’s surveillance system, found the young man wearing the hat, and tracked him down, discovering his identity.
But with this unexpected incident today, she could only temporarily put aside her personal grievances. Her tone was calm,
“It’s time to use people now, let’s forgive him.”
“You’re so kind-hearted.” Lu Yunting snorted coldly,
“Didn’t you say you’re vengeful?”
Su Yiren instantly recalled how she had tricked Ouyang Shasha at the auction. He had mocked her at the time, saying she was “vengeful.”
Thinking about it, Su Yiren felt extremely uncomfortable and retorted:
“If you don’t act in your own interest, you’ll be punished by Heaven. People or things that benefit me, I will naturally treat them differently. But compared to Mr. Lu, I’m far behind.”
Later, she learned that Su Changhua did indeed buy the land at a high price, but even so, Lu Yunting still sent Wang Meng to prison.
Doing business with such a person is like playing with fire.
He wants to get his share of the pie, but he also wants to figure out how to devour the other person completely.
Lu Yunting naturally heard the mockery in her words. He snorted,
“You have a sharp tongue, you’ve never lost an argument.”
Su Yiren glared at him, but didn’t continue to taunt him.
After thinking for a moment, she asked:
“Who do you think is behind this incident?”
Lu Yunting’s face became more serious, and he snorted coldly:
“Whoever benefits the most from this incident, they’re the ones involved.”
“Then there are probably quite a few people involved,” Su Yiren smiled disdainfully, listing them off one by one,
“A certain high-ranking official from the Su family, the hypocritical second aunt, the second uncle who has been hiding in the shadows but wants to regain the position of CEO, and maybe even…”
She raised her eyes to look at Lu Yunting and said slowly:
“The Ouyang family.”
Lu Yunting quickly glanced at her,
“They couldn’t possibly hurt me.”
Su Yiren’s tone was icy,
“But they want to drive me out of the Lu family.”
Lu Yunting pursed his lips and didn’t speak.
Su Yiren coldly watched his silence. Her numb heart had no feelings left, and her tone was flat as she said:
“If they haven’t taken you down yet, they won’t give up. Be careful in the future.” She turned to leave,
“The banquet hasn’t ended yet, I’ll go back first.”
“Wait,” Lu Yunting called out.
Su Yiren turned around and looked at him in confusion,
“What else is there?”
“Why did you reveal your identity?”
Lu Yunting never thought that Su Yiren would admit that she was Susan. Doing so would undoubtedly make her life less peaceful.
From their interactions over these past few days, he had discovered that Su Yiren wasn’t the kind of person who liked to show off, just like the collection of expensive paintings in her studio.
She was so talented, she had the capital to flaunt it, but she just stayed in that small studio, painting what she wanted, yet letting her work gather dust.
Su Yiren stood there, thought for a moment, and then replied thoughtfully:
“If I can stand in the spotlight, wouldn’t it be easier for people to see me?”
If she wasn’t the despised Mrs. Lu anymore, if she could show everyone a better version of herself, if she was always confident and flamboyant, perhaps he wouldn’t have ignored her for so many years.
Even if it was impossible to undo the past, even if it was just her guess, she still wanted to live for herself.
Strive to take root, grow freely, and eventually become radiant and dazzling, so that everyone would look up to her.
Su Yiren walked out of the living room. The outdoor sunlight instantly fell on her back, as if outlining a faint halo.
Lu Yunting watched her back, feeling that her whole being was radiating a soft glow, just as she said.
He could easily see her shining brightly in the sunlight.
At that moment, a corner of his heart began to shake gently, as if with the passage of time, that closed-off area would eventually shatter and collapse.
Even though there was an unpleasant little incident, the ending was good. The birthday banquet was not interrupted.
Mr. Lu happily cut the cake and raised a toast with everyone, celebrating his birthday with a lively atmosphere.
After most of the guests left, the rest of them returned to the living room to continue drinking tea and chatting.
The Ouyang family didn’t leave either. They’ve been wanting to cooperate with Lu on a project recently, so they naturally wanted to find every opportunity to socialize with the Lu family.
Ouyang Shasha was especially fond of Lu Yunting,so Bai Xiuping pretended to be familiar and stayed to chat with the old man.
“I heard that Mr. Lu dotes on his younger generation. If anyone can become your child, then they’re truly blessed in their past life!”
Bai Xiuping’s words had a hidden meaning, and most of the people present understood what she meant.
Lu Jin 海 laughed and replied:
“You can’t believe everything you hear. Although I do favor my younger generation, I never hesitate to discipline them when necessary.”
“Of course, of course,” Bai Xiuping continued his line of thought:
“Young people will make mistakes, they all need your guidance and teachings.”
Jiang Jinyun couldn’t stand to see this old vixen Bai Xiuping, but since she was a guest and was there to celebrate the old man’s birthday, she had to put up with her to some extent.
Otherwise, just based on what Bai Xiuping had said before, she would have already sprayed her with words until she couldn’t hold her head up in public.
Since everyone in the living room was familiar, and there was nothing important to do, Jiang Jinyun didn’t want to see Bai Xiuping’s disgusting face anymore, so she gently patted Su Yiren and whispered:
“Come with me for a walk.”
The two of them left the living room one after the other. Ouyang Shasha’s gaze fell on their backs, her eyebrows slightly raised.
Su Yiren held Jiang Jinyun’s arm, and the two of them strolled on the lawn.
At first, they were just chatting casually, but then Su Yiren remembered something and asked:
“Mom, what are the Lu family’s house rules?”
