After Divorce, I Inherited a Billion-Dollar Fortune Chapter 27

Back at the Office

As soon as they returned to the office, Su Weichu turned to the old chairman with a trace of concern in her eyes.

“Grandfather, how has your health been while I was away?”

The old man waved a hand dismissively, his expression a mix of pride and irritation. “You don’t need to worry about me. That brat from the Lin family sent people to take care of me. I suppose he finally knows how to act properly.”

His tone carried a distinct note of displeasure, clearly unimpressed with Lin Huaiyu’s sudden attentiveness.

Su Weichu pressed her lips together, unsure of how to respond.

Moments later, the old man sighed, his voice filled with reluctant curiosity. “Tell me honestly, what’s going on between you and that Lin boy?”

“Nothing at all, Grandfather. Don’t overthink it,” Su Weichu replied flatly, cutting off his speculation.

The conversation soon shifted to the company’s future plans. After finalizing a few matters, Su Weichu arranged for someone to escort the old chairman back to the hospital.

Once alone in her office, she hesitated briefly before pulling out her phone and dialing Lin Huaiyu’s number.

The call was answered almost immediately.

“What is it?” His deep, velvety voice came through the speaker.

Unmoved by the magnetism in his tone, Su Weichu spoke coolly. “Thank you for sending people to take care of my grandfather these past few days. Send me the bill for their wages—I’ll transfer the money to you.”

She had already owed this man a favor for her grandfather’s treatment. She had no intention of accumulating more debts, especially one as difficult to repay as a personal favor.

Lin Huaiyu fell silent for a few seconds before chuckling lightly. “Taking care of your grandfather is my duty. There’s no need for such formalities, let alone money.”

His words were pointed—he was reminding her that they were husband and wife. There was no need to draw such strict lines.

But Su Weichu wasn’t having it. “Lin Huaiyu, we’re already divorced.”

“A divorce can be undone. And besides,” he said lazily, “I never signed the divorce papers.”

Su Weichu exhaled sharply, growing impatient. “Sign it or don’t—it doesn’t matter to me. As long as I know we’re done, that’s all that matters. The money will be in your account shortly.”

Without another word, she hung up and immediately transferred a large sum to him through her mobile banking app.

On the other end, Lin Huaiyu received the bank notification and frowned, his expression dark yet tinged with helpless amusement.

An Unwelcome Visitor

For the next two days, the office remained peaceful.

With her new role officially in place, Su Weichu quickly familiarized herself with the company’s operations. She had just begun reviewing documents when her office door was suddenly flung open with a bang.

“Su Weichu! How can you be so vicious?!”

Lin Chenxi stormed in, fury blazing in her eyes. Behind her, Yi Qingyun followed hastily, looking both apologetic and exasperated.

“Chairman, I’m sorry. I couldn’t stop her,” Yi Qingyun said with a bow of her head.

“It’s fine. Go back to work.”

Su Weichu didn’t hold it against her.

After all, she knew the Lin family far too well.

Lin Chenxi had always been hot-tempered and impulsive, and given the Lin family’s status, few dared to rein her in—except for Lin Huaiyu.

Before Su Weichu could fully process the intrusion, Lin Chenxi’s voice rang out again, sharp with indignation.

“Su Weichu, how did I never realize before how cruel you are?! Do you actually think that by ruining Qiao Shan’s face, you can win my brother’s heart back? Let me tell you—it’s impossible!”

Ah. So that’s what this was about.

Su Weichu almost laughed at the absurdity of it all.

Qiao Shan, in her relentless bid to frame Su Weichu, had deliberately scratched her own face. But fate had a twisted sense of humor—the wound had gotten infected. The inflammation worsened, festering into an unsightly mess. Eventually, the infection led to a high fever, landing her in the hospital.

Unwilling to suffer alone, Qiao Shan had sent Lin Chenxi to stir up trouble, leading to this very moment.

“You think I’m the one who scarred Qiao Shan’s face?” Su Weichu asked, her voice laced with amusement.

“If not you, then who? Qiao Shan said it herself!”

Lin Chenxi’s eyes blazed with righteous anger as she pointed a finger at Su Weichu. “You’re coming with me to the hospital right now to apologize to her!”

Instead of arguing, Su Weichu merely tilted her head and studied Lin Chenxi with an unreadable expression.

Interesting.

Since Qiao Shan had gone to such lengths to frame her, it would be a shame not to see how this little act played out.

“Alright, I’ll go with you,” she said, lips curling into a faint smile.

At the Hospital

Upon reaching the hospital, Su Weichu followed Lin Chenxi to a VIP ward.

Even before they entered, she could hear Bai Xueping’s exasperated voice from within.

“I told you not to wear makeup over an open wound! Now look at this mess—I have to stay here and take care of you. And I don’t understand what Huaiyu is thinking, specifically asking me to watch over you.”

Ah.

So Lin Huaiyu really did care about Qiao Shan. Not only had he made sure she was hospitalized, but he even had his own mother personally look after her.

A flicker of self-mockery passed over Su Mochu’s face.

For a while, she had foolishly entertained the notion that Lin Huaiyu’s persistence in wanting to reconcile meant he had lingering feelings for her.

But now, she saw how laughably naïve that assumption had been.

Lin Chenxi, oblivious to Su Weichu’s inner thoughts, smirked triumphantly. “See? My brother cares about Qiao Shan so much that he even had my mom look after her. So do us all a favor and stop clinging to him. You’re not wanted in our family anymore.”

Su Weichu gave her an icy glance. “Am I the one clinging to him?”

Not waiting for an answer, she pushed open the door and stepped inside.

The moment she entered, the atmosphere in the room shifted.

Qiao Shan, sitting in bed with half her face wrapped in gauze, stiffened. Bai Xueping, on the other hand, hesitated for only a second before greeting her with a warm smile.

“Chu Chu, what brings you here?”

“Miss Lin insisted that I apologize to Miss Qiao. So here I am.”

Though her words were polite, her gaze was locked onto Qiao Shan.

The woman’s face was partially concealed by layers of bandages, but the visible portions were swollen and discolored. The stained gauze bore traces of yellowish fluid—evidence of how badly the infection had worsened.

Bai Xueping’s expression darkened as she turned to Lin Chenxi. “What nonsense are you spouting? Qiao Shan did this to herself. Why are you blaming Chu Chu?”

Then, her sharp gaze flicked toward Qiao Shan. “Did you tell Chenxi to confront Chu Chu?”

Qiao Shan’s face paled instantly.

“Auntie, no! I would never!” she protested, shaking her head frantically.

But Lin Chenxi frowned. “Qiao Shan, that’s not what you told me before. You said—”

She trailed off, realization dawning on her too late.

Qiao Shan’s heart pounded.

Damn it.

In her haste to deny responsibility, she had forgotten Lin Chenxi was still in the room.

Thinking fast, she forced out a sheepish laugh. “Yes, I did say that before—but it was just an emotional outburst. I never meant for Chenxi to take it seriously. I appreciate her standing up for me, but… let’s just drop the matter.”

She played the victim masterfully, painting herself as a gracious, forgiving soul.

But Su Weichu merely smirked.

Let’s see how long this little act lasts.
