At 10:30 in the morning, Ji He walked out of the traffic police department, her tricycle now legally registered.
The sun was scorching, but she couldn’t rest yet. She applied makeup to make herself look older, appearing like a middle-aged woman.
She rode to the agreed location and collected the 50,000 yuan worth of gasoline and diesel in batches.
The gas cylinders took up the most space; the actual volume of gasoline and diesel was less than she had expected.
After handling everything, Ji He rode her newly purchased tricycle to the back entrance of the zoo.
The afternoon sun was dizzyingly hot, and she was drenched in sweat by the time she arrived.
Parking her tricycle in the shade of a large tree, she listened to the incessant buzzing of cicadas while sending a message to Aunt Li.
She had troubled the woman a lot yesterday. Since she still had some leftover duck intestines and goose intestines from the morning’s sales, she thought of bringing some over.
By the time she finished messaging, she had already packed the intestines into disposable meal containers. Right then, Aunt Li walked out of the zoo’s back entrance, carrying a black plastic bag.
Seeing Ji He, she broke into a smile and greeted her warmly. “Xiao He, why are you here again? We were just talking about you!”
“I brought you something to eat,” Ji He said as she got off the tricycle and handed over the packed intestines. “Auntie, try my cooking. You helped me so much yesterday—I don’t know how else to thank you. I made these duck intestines for you. Hope you don’t mind.”
“You silly girl! You’re struggling yourself, yet you’re so generous? Duck intestines are expensive these days! Take them back and eat them yourself—why are you giving them to me?” Aunt Li scolded, playfully patting Ji He’s shoulder.
“Hurry up and take them back, or I’ll get mad! What’s a little animal fur from yesterday? That was just trash! Even if I hadn’t given it to you, it would’ve ended up in the garbage anyway.”
Ji He insisted, “Auntie, please accept it. Even if it was just trash, collecting so many different types took effort. I truly appreciate your help.”
After some back-and-forth, Aunt Li gave in and accepted the gift.
“You’re such a good girl!” Aunt Li beamed. It was always nice to help someone who was grateful. “Since I knew you needed these things, I collected even more for you. Take them. If I find more in the future, I’ll set them aside for you.”
With that, Aunt Li handed over the black plastic bag she had been carrying. Ji He took it with a bright smile and thanked her.
Aunt Li sighed, “I don’t know what’s going on lately. The temperature is unusually high, and a lot of fish have died in the aquarium. The staff are in a panic and had to spend a fortune to restock them. There are quite a few fish fins in what I gave you—I asked my old coworker in cleaning to cut them off for you.”
Ji He’s heart skipped a beat. The heat was causing mass fish deaths?
They chatted for a bit longer, but Aunt Li, worried about being away too long, quickly headed back.
Ji He didn’t leave right away. Instead, she reached into the black bag.
Checking the numbers on her inventory display, she did a mental calculation. Aunt Li had given her parts from 15 different animals. That meant she still needed 113 more.
After thinking for a while, she came up with a new plan for her collection. She found a secluded corner, stored her tricycle in her space, and took a bus to the large dog market on the outskirts of H City.
Since H City was a major metropolis, the dog market couldn’t be located in the city center. Ji He spent an hour and a half on the bus to reach it.
The bus ride was pleasant—air-conditioned and not too crowded. Ji He sat in the very back, with no one around her.
She didn’t waste time. Using her backpack as cover, she secretly counted money.
Yes, she was counting her earnings from the morning’s sales.
She had wanted to do this earlier but hadn’t had the chance. Now, she couldn’t hold back any longer. She had already checked her digital payments—1,920 yuan.
The rest was cash.
One by one, she pulled out the bills from her storage space and counted them.
First, the 100-yuan notes—four of them. Then the 50s.
By the time she finished, her eyes widened in shock.
She had made a fortune! Including the transfers, her morning sales totaled 3,958 yuan!
Carefully storing the money back into her space, she felt elated.
4,000 yuan in one day.
40,000 in ten days.
120,000 in a month.
The game’s name really wasn’t wrong—it was a true “support system” game, supporting her all the way.
Such an amazing game—it deserved to be worshiped.
What a treasure.
Feeling giddy, Ji He planned to finish her task quickly so she could go home, cook more, and sell even earlier tomorrow to earn more money.
She already had plans for the money—she wouldn’t just let it sit. There were still plenty of supplies she hadn’t bought yet, like eggs, coal, and snacks.
Pulling out her phone, she logged onto an online shopping platform and started ordering like crazy.
Biscuits, instant noodles, sausages, preserved meats, chips, self-heating meals, self-heating hot pots, chocolate, fruit candies, pickles, snail noodles—she spent over 5,000 yuan in total.
If she didn’t have enough, she could borrow from M-Pay. She could spend this month and repay next month.
Her credit limit was 6,800 yuan.
After buying all the food, she moved on to practical supplies—things she had bought before but felt weren’t enough.
Insecticide, rat poison, plastic barrels, large stainless steel basins, tissues, wet wipes, sanitary pads, saltpeter—miscellaneous items that totaled over 1,000 yuan.
Only when she maxed out her credit limit did she finally force herself to stop.
She used to be extremely frugal, but this kind of shopping spree felt amazing. It was almost addictive—she wanted to buy everything she saw.
Just as she finished, the bus swayed to a stop at the outskirts, arriving at the dog market.
The moment she stepped off, the heat hit her like a wave.
She had checked the weather that morning—it was supposed to peak at 39°C. But she didn’t believe it. This felt much hotter.
After just a few moments in the sun, she was already sweating.
Without lingering, Ji He hurried into the dog market.
The smell was unpleasant—a mix of animal waste and the summer heat. Even in an open-air market, the stench was overpowering.
She pulled out a mask and put it on, finally feeling a bit better.
Shops lined the area, with animals displayed on stands. Under the hot sun, the creatures looked listless.
The market was fairly busy. Many young couples wandered around on dates, and parents brought their children to look at the animals.
Most people were just browsing, with only a few actually making purchases.
Ji He had a clear goal—she was here to collect fur.
In this sweltering heat, cats and dogs shed even more than usual.
She approached the display stands.
Behind the counters, vendors lazily glanced at her, too hot to be bothered.
Sitting on stools, they fanned themselves with handheld fans, not even bothering to stand up. They had zero interest in entertaining customers.
