Chapter 5: Feeling Moved
“Have you met President Qin?” As soon as they returned to the bedroom, Su Mei anxiously asked.
She had previously heard about the Qin family’s eldest son being disfigured and had found it amusing, not really caring about his appearance.
But now that it was about her own daughter, she just hoped the rumors were exaggerated. If he truly had a completely disfigured face, even if Old Master Meng offered more, she couldn’t agree.
“No,” Meng father lowered his head in shame.
Qin Zhuoran, the eldest son of the Qin family, was only 30 years old this year, but he was already the general manager of the Qin Group. He rarely made public appearances, so a small fry like Meng father would never have had a chance to meet him.
“I asked around. Someone who has seen him said only half of his face was disfigured, and you can’t tell unless you’re up close,” Su Mei excitedly handed her phone to Meng father.
Meng father glanced at the chat logs on the phone and let out a sigh of relief. Fortunately, it wasn’t too bad.
“Do you think Yi Yi will agree? She already dislikes her cousin, and now she’s suffered such a huge loss!” Meng father, thinking of his daughter’s stubborn nature, felt a little worried.
“I’ll go talk to her tonight. If she really disagrees, then there’s nothing we can do,” Su Mei said helplessly.
“Then we’ll have to do it this way! You talk to her well tonight. Tell her that men aren’t just about looks…” Meng father rambled.
Su Mei looked at Meng father, who was packing up, his broad shoulders and long legs, and couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
Only men think looks don’t matter. After all, it was because she married Meng father for his looks, and everyone thought she had bad taste. Even Meng father himself felt he was unworthy of her.
But only she knew how comfortable it was to marry a handsome, family-oriented man and have two beautiful children.
By the time Su Mei finished packing and reached the hospital, it was already 7 PM.
“What are you eating? Who told you to give your sister these?” As soon as Su Mei entered the ward and saw the two eating spicy crawfish, she immediately exploded.
“Mom, Mom, it was my sister who ordered them, it has nothing to do with me,” Meng Yuanliang quickly explained. He knew that if he spoke too slowly, his mom’s fists might come flying.
“Why are you eating these? Your injury isn’t healed yet! Stop eating and drink some bird’s nest!” Su Mei said as she poured a bowl of bird’s nest from the thermos.
“Oh, you’re eating bird’s nest now! Looks like your injury was worth it!” Meng Yuanliang leaned over, curious.
It wasn’t that he was nosy, but even though they were also part of the Meng family, their treatment was nowhere near compared to Uncle Meng’s family. Usually, only his cousin and Aunt Meng got to enjoy things like bird’s nest.
“Shut up and try some! So you don’t keep drooling over it!” Su Mei said, pouring a bowl for Meng Yuanliang.
“I’ll pass. I’m not drinking what women drink,” Meng Yuanliang quickly dodged.
This was Meng Yitong’s first time trying bird’s nest, and she thought it tasted a lot like tremella soup.
“Mom, sister, I’m leaving now! If you need anything, call me,” Meng Yuanliang said. Seeing that there was nothing for him to do, he cleaned up the trash on the table and took it out with the other garbage in the ward.
Meng Yitong glanced at him and thought, “This little brother is pretty good—sunny, handsome, lively, hardworking, and thoughtful. He’s not as bad as the original owner and her friends made him out to be.”
“Yi Yi, what do you think about what Grandpa said earlier?” Su Mei asked carefully when she saw Meng Yitong almost done eating.
Meng Yitong was a bit startled at first but soon realized that Su Mei was referring to the marriage proposal. Earlier, Su Mei had said she would never agree, so why was she changing her tone now?
After a pause, Meng Yitong looked down and asked, “What did Grandpa say?”
Seeing her daughter’s low mood, Su Mei immediately felt heartbroken and hugged Meng Yitong, comforting her, “It’s okay, it’s okay, Mom is just asking for your opinion. If you don’t agree, I’ll reject your grandfather right away, and we’ll move out.”
“It’s just that the conditions your grandfather offered this time are too good. Mom is worried you might regret it later.”
“What conditions?”
“Your grandfather said that if you agree to marry into the Qin family, he will give you 5% of the shares in the Meng Group, and also give you Bishui Mountain Manor. Didn’t you really want Bishui Mountain Manor before?”
Meng Yitong was completely shocked. The Meng family Group was a multi-billion-dollar company, and 5% of the shares would be more than enough for her to spend in her lifetime.
As for the Biyu Mountain Villa, it was a large eco-estate with nearly 10 billion in investments. The original owner had dreamed of owning it. She couldn’t understand why, as a granddaughter, her cousin got it, but she didn’t.
Meng Yitong believed that if the original owner had heard this offer, she would have immediately agreed. In fact, Meng Yitong herself was tempted to agree—after all, she was afraid of poverty. Her biggest dream in her previous life had been to achieve financial freedom.
Now, with such an opportunity right in front of her, how could she not be moved?
Su Mei saw that her daughter hadn’t spoken yet, so she continued, “Also, I’ve checked again. Qin Zhuoran only has a slight scar from a burn on half of his face. It’s not as bad as the rumors say.”
At this moment, Su Mei had completely forgotten that she had been one of the biggest spreaders of the rumors in the first place.
“But he’s interested in my cousin. Can I really do it?” Meng Yitong didn’t have a strong aversion to the idea of an arranged marriage.
Before her transmigration, Meng Yitong was only 23 and had no experience in relationships. But she believed that feelings could be cultivated—didn’t ancient people get married without even meeting, and still live happily ever after?
“Ha, what’s so great about your cousin? What they like is the Meng family. The reason they chose your cousin was just because your second uncle is the heir to the Meng family. Now that your grandfather has offered you 5% of the shares in the Meng family, your status isn’t any worse than your cousin’s! In fact, from a practical standpoint, marrying you is far better than marrying her!”
“Won’t Grandpa give her the shares if she gets married?”
