Chapter 30: First Time Shopping Together
Over the past half year at the law firm, Meng Yitong had seen many couples in love who drifted apart soon after marriage.
The reason behind it was often not big arguments but the interference of both families, which led to differences in opinion between the couple, causing their marriage to fall apart.
Both sets of parents, with their well-meaning intentions, would step in and offer advice.
Small arguments that seemed insignificant between couples were exaggerated in the eyes of both parents. Eventually, what started as mutual love ended up turning into a bargaining partnership.
Having seen so many cases, Meng Yitong didn’t want to share her relationship with her mother.
She knew that a mother like hers, who doted on her daughter, would have the highest standards for a son-in-law.
In her eyes, her daughter was the best girl in the world, and no man would ever be good enough for her.
Also, since her mother was a strong figure in her marriage, she would inevitably compare Qin Zhuoran’s post-marriage attitude to her father’s.
To avoid her mother giving too much unsolicited advice, Meng Yitong decided to just play along with her responses.
Meng Yitong thought to herself that if she went back to the Meng family today, her mother would surely keep her there, asking endless questions!
After the two of them got in the car, Qin Zhuoran still didn’t let go of her hand.
Sitting in the enclosed car, Meng Yitong couldn’t help but feel her cheeks warm up.
She glanced up at the driver ahead.
Seeing that he was focused on driving, not looking back at them, she felt a little relieved and tried to make small talk, saying, “Did you bring all your documents?”
“Mm!”
Meng Yitong noticed that his voice sounded a little off. She turned her head and, sure enough, saw him stifling a laugh.
Meng Yitong suspected he was making fun of her. Although her question earlier was indeed a bit silly, that didn’t mean he should laugh at her!
Irritated, Meng Yitong pulled her hand out of Qin Zhuoran’s and grabbed her phone from her bag, searching for information about getting married certificates.
Qin Zhuoran chuckled and took out his phone to handle some work remotely.
But before he could finish looking at a project proposal, his right arm was nudged twice.
He shifted his gaze from his phone to Meng Yitong, who had a pout on her face, clearly unhappy. She handed her phone to him.
Qin Zhuoran took the phone, looked at it, and saw the message: “It is best for newlyweds to get their marriage certificate in the morning. The morning is considered an auspicious time, as it represents a fresh start and vitality. Getting married in the morning symbolizes a bright future and a positive life ahead…”
After reading it, Qin Zhuoran laughed. “Do you still believe in these things?”
Meng Yitong looked at his indifferent expression and replied, “It says that if you get your certificate in the afternoon, it’s considered a second marriage.”
At that moment, Meng Yitong couldn’t help but wonder—could Qin Zhuoran be on his second marriage?
After all, he was already 30, and considering his family’s way of doing things, maybe even a third or fourth marriage wouldn’t be all that surprising. Other people probably wouldn’t even know!
Seeing her reluctant face, Qin Zhuoran couldn’t help but laugh.
Although he didn’t believe in these superstitions, the fact that Meng Yitong cared about them showed that she took their marriage seriously.
That thought made him happy. He smiled and said, “Do you want to go somewhere? We can take a walk.”
Meng Yitong saw how quickly Qin Zhuoran agreed to her suggestion and was willing to spend time with her. It showed that he wasn’t a typical “alpha male” and was gentle and considerate.
She silently nodded in approval. He was much better than those typical “alpha” guys.
At that moment, Meng Yitong noticed a large shopping mall ahead and happily said, “Let’s stop there, I want to buy some clothes.”
Looking at her wardrobe, which was mostly full of pink clothes from the previous owner, she couldn’t help but want to buy a few new pieces.
She hadn’t had time to shop before, and also didn’t have the money. But now, with Qin Zhuoran with her, there was no need to pay herself!
She smiled to herself. Since they didn’t buy a ring for the wedding, it was time to make up for it by shopping.
Qin Zhuoran watched Meng Yitong’s excited expression and couldn’t help but shake his head. It seemed that every woman loved to shop.
Thinking of this, he reached into the backseat storage compartment, pulled out a black wallet, and handed Meng Yitong a black card.
Meng Yitong was shocked and stared at the black card in front of her. Was this the legendary “black card”?
Seeing her frozen expression, Qin Zhuoran chuckled. “Take it!”
Meng Yitong really wanted to take the card, but she felt it was a bit too forward. She pretended to stay calm and said, “I have money too.”
Qin Zhuoran teased her, “Really? This card has no spending limit.”
As he said this, he made a move to take the card back
