Chapter 5: Contempt
Xiao Miaomiao’s heart was filled with anger and disdain. She coldly glanced at Hong Wenbin, her eyes filled with contempt for his shameless behavior.
Her brows revealed a sense of firmness and fierceness, as if to say: “I’ve never seen such a shameless person, who can actually distort the truth and turn things around.”
Hong Wenbin stood before her, his once familiar face now seemed so strange. He had actually cheated, and now he had the audacity to accuse her of betrayal. The flames of anger burned fiercely in Xiao Miaomiao’s heart. She felt as if she had been splashed with a bucket of cold water, from head to toe.
“Do you think I’m like you? You have no shame, so you think I’m the same?” Xiao Miaomiao sneered, her voice filled with sarcasm and disdain.
“I have evidence of your infidelity, do you have evidence of mine? Just because I’m standing with my cousin?”
Xiao Miaomiao reached into her bag and pulled out an envelope, slamming it hard against Hong Wenbin’s face. The envelope flew through the air in a graceful arc, carrying her anger and determination, landing squarely on his face.
The photos inside the envelope scattered across the floor. They were pictures of Hong Wenbin and another woman, intimate and affectionate, each image silently accusing him of his betrayal.
Hong Wenbin froze, staring blankly at the photos on the floor. His face instantly turned pale, his eyes flashing with a hint of panic and fear.
Hong Wenbin stared at the photos in his hand, his expression trembling in disbelief as he picked them up. Every inch of the images stung his eyes. A wave of inexplicable panic surged through him, as if the whole world was crumbling around him.
And just then, the words Xiao Miaomiao had spoken sent a chill down his spine. Her cousin, was it Jiang Chen or Zheng Yan? Both names were like towering mountains to him, insurmountable and impossible to offend.
Hong Wenbin took a deep breath, trying to calm his inner turmoil. He slowly knelt before Xiao Miaomiao, his eyes revealing an unprecedented plea.
“Miaomiao, I… I know I was wrong. I made a mistake that any man might make, but I truly didn’t intend to betray you. I beg you, forgive me this once.” His voice trembled, each word squeezed out from between his teeth.
Xiao Miaomiao watched his outstretched hand, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes. She gently avoided his touch, remaining silent, but her gaze spoke volumes.
“Hong Wenbin, it’s over between us,” Xiao Miaomiao stared at him, her eyes reflecting a hint of decisiveness and indifference. “I want half your assets as compensation for this marriage. Otherwise, I’ll go to Zheng Ge and ask him to help me sue you. You cheated on me while we were married, and if this goes to court, you’ll lose more than just half your assets. Think carefully about what you want to do.”
Hong Wenbin’s face instantly turned pale. His voice trembled as he tried to salvage the situation: “Miaomiao, I know I was wrong. I was just momentarily confused, that’s why I was involved with Liu Yueyue. But the person I truly love has always been you.”
Xiao Miaomiao let out a cold laugh, as if she had heard the most absurd joke in the world. “Your love? It’s so cheap, it’s laughable. There’s no possibility between us anymore.”
“You claim to love me, yet you embrace another woman, even fathering children with her.” Xiao Miaomiao looked at Hong Wenbin with a mocking tone, her eyes revealing an indescribable sense of derision.
“You say you were worried about my health, afraid I couldn’t handle your passion. You claim you didn’t want to touch me, but treated me as your most precious treasure, cherishing me in your palm.”
“Do you really think I’m an idiot?” Xiao Miaomiao said coldly, her voice reflecting a sense of determination and resolve.
“Really, Miaomiao, if you truly care, then tonight we’ll officially become husband and wife. If you want children, then we’ll have children together.” Hong Wenbin’s voice carried a hint of urgency. His only goal now was to appease Xiao Miaomiao’s emotions by any means necessary.
Xiao Miaomiao slightly frowned, a flicker of coldness in her eyes. She suddenly realized that her cousin Jiang Chen’s judgment was truly remarkable. Hong Wenbin, this man, had so easily betrayed their love. Why did he think that a simple apology and a night together would erase his betrayal, and that she would readily forgive him, even willing to spend the rest of her life with him, raising children? This was simply a dream.
She took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice calm. “Hong Wenbin, do you think things are that simple? Do you think an apology and a night together can erase the fact that you betrayed me?”
Hong Wenbin’s heart sank at her words, but he also knew he couldn’t lose Xiao Miaomiao, he couldn’t lose all this. He gritted his teeth and said in a humble tone: “Miaomiao, I know I was wrong. I’m willing to spend the rest of my life making it up to you. As long as you forgive me, I’m willing to do anything.”
“Why do you think I would use something that someone else has already used? In my eyes, you’re nothing but trash, trash I want to throw away as far as possible.” Xiao Miaomiao said, looking at Hong Wenbin without mercy.
Hong Wenbin’s face instantly turned dark, a flash of anger in his eyes. He had originally sought a controllable pawn, so he quickly married this rural girl, Xiao Miaomiao. However, he never expected that Xiao Miaomiao would now have a powerful backer in Jiang Chen, causing his previously superior attitude to crumble instantly.
Although he was burning with anger, he could only suppress his anger and try to remain calm in the face of Xiao Miaomiao’s cold gaze. He knew that Xiao Miaomiao was no longer the rural girl he could manipulate, but a strong woman with Jiang Chen’s support.
If he had known before getting the marriage certificate that Jiang Chen was Xiao Miaomiao’s cousin, he would never have dared to cheat on Liu Yueyue while married. But now it was too late to say anything. He could only beg for Xiao Miaomiao’s forgiveness to get Jiang Chen to let him off the hook.
Jiang Chen nodded, listening. He knew his sister was right.
“Hong Wenbin, do you know why you didn’t know that Miaomiao and I are siblings? I didn’t let Miaomiao tell you because I didn’t think you were worthy of her. You just happened to appear when she wanted to leave the Xiao family, and she thought you were okay, so she settled for you.”
“But she didn’t have much affection for you. Actually, when I heard Miaomiao say you took her to the hospital for a checkup, saying that Miaomiao’s health was not good and needed to be taken care of, and that Miaomiao hadn’t become a real wife with you, I knew this day would come.”
“Miaomiao is my sister, I naturally know about her health. Her health did need to be taken care of, but it wasn’t serious enough to prevent her from having sex or having children. There are only two reasons for this: one, you’re not capable, and two, you don’t want to touch Miaomiao, you like someone else.”
