Chapter 6: Betrayal

Jiang Chen’s gaze fell coldly upon him, a mocking curve playing at his lips. He chuckled lightly, “The situation clearly points to the latter. You were sneaking around behind Miaomiao’s back, entangled with your ‘white moonlight.’ This betrayal, even if Miaomiao chose to forgive you, I couldn’t.”

He paused, his voice laced with an unyielding determination, “So, you now face two choices. Either you sign the divorce agreement and give Miaomiao half your assets as compensation, or you choose to refuse. Then, Zheng Yan, as Miaomiao’s lawyer, will expose your infidelity to the public, leaving you disgraced and penniless. You can choose not to believe me, but I assure you, you’ll pay a heavy price for it.”

Jiang Chen’s words were calm and resolute, each syllable like a cold arrow piercing the other’s heart. A resolute glint flickered in his eyes, as if telling the other that he wouldn’t budge on this matter.

“Because your ‘white moonlight’ was born into a lower social class and your parents didn’t approve of her, she was raised outside and bore you a child. She even tried to make my sister infertile, so she could raise your child with her, and inherit my sister’s dowry. You’ve been playing this game so well, you really think I, Jiang Chen, am a pushover?”

“But you were so good at pretending before, I almost fell for it. However, I never truly believed you, so your final scheme will fall apart. Now, I’ll leave it to Miaomiao to handle. If I intervene, I’ll ensure your Hong family has no chance of redemption.” Jiang Chen removed his glasses and looked at Hong Wenbin.

Hong Wenbin, listening to Jiang Chen’s words, felt an icy chill creep into his heart. He knew, at this moment, he was trapped in a desperate situation. Faced with Xiao Miaomiao’s unwavering resolve, he had no choice but to sign his name on the divorce agreement, silently.

Seeing this, Zheng Yan pulled out a prepared document from his pocket and handed it to Hong Wenbin. He said in a deep voice, “These are all the expenses you incurred for Liu Yueyue. From the valuable real estate and jewelry to the seemingly insignificant daily meals, everything is recorded. You must understand, this money was originally your joint marital property with Miaomiao. Therefore, you must return every penny to Miaomiao.”

Hong Wenbin took the document, a flash of astonishment crossing his eyes. He looked at the detailed expenses, a complex emotion welling up in his heart.

Under Zheng Yan’s cold and unwavering gaze, Hong Wenbin was speechless.

“After the divorce, the assets must be transferred to my account within three days. If you fail to do so, we’ll meet in court.” Xiao Miaomiao’s tone was firm, her eyes sharp as she stared directly at Hong Wenbin. Her voice held an undeniable decisiveness, as if she had already set the final deadline for the end of their marriage.

Hong Wenbin looked at the two bright red marriage certificates in Xiao Miaomiao’s hand, a wave of bitterness washing over him. He knew there was no turning back, he could only follow her instructions and proceed with the divorce. He stood up silently and left the office with Xiao Miaomiao and the president of Jiang Corporation.

Qi Lili stood aside, witnessing everything. She watched Hong Wenbin’s dejected and deflated figure, a ripple stirring in her heart.

So, their president’s wife really abandoned their president for the president of Jiang Corporation?

“Lili, Lili!” Her supervisor’s call broke her thoughts. She looked over and saw her supervisor standing before her, looking at her with a helpless expression.

“Supervisor, it seems like our president and his wife are really getting divorced. I saw the president’s face, it looked really bad. So, our president’s wife is climbing the high branch of the Jiang Corporation’s president?” Qi Lili looked at her supervisor with disbelief.

Although she thought the president’s wife would be a good match for the president of Jiang Corporation, she felt a little disappointed that the president’s wife would betray their president like this.

The supervisor looked at Qi Lili’s confused expression and couldn’t help but laugh sarcastically, “Have you never considered that maybe our president did something unforgivable, something that made Ms. Xiao determined to get a divorce?”

Qi Lili widened her eyes, looking at her supervisor in disbelief, “No way? The president was pretty good to his wife, wasn’t he? Every time the president’s wife sent him meals, he would personally come downstairs to greet her. The way he looked at her was so doting, it doesn’t seem like he would do anything to hurt her.”

The supervisor shook his head gently and sighed, “Lili, you’re still too young. Some things aren’t as simple as they seem. What we see might just be the tip of the iceberg.”

“Supervisor, did you see something?” Lili asked curiously.

“Alright, if you want to keep working here, stop asking.” The supervisor waved his hand and left.

Hong Wenbin stared at Xiao Miaomiao. She had just come out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, a relieved smile blooming on her face. The smile seemed to sting his eyes, and an inexplicable regret began to grow in his heart.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil within him, and said to Xiao Miaomiao, “I’ll transfer the house we’re living in to your name.”

Xiao Miaomiao was slightly taken aback, then shook her head, saying calmly, “I don’t want that house. I’ve already moved my things out. Just remember to transfer the money to my account.”

Her voice was calm and resolute, as if she were talking about something that had nothing to do with her.

Xiao Miaomiao was about to leave.

Jiang Chen and Zheng Yan had come to see them sign the divorce papers and were about to leave. They were both busy people, and it was only because they pushed aside many things that they came to support Xiao Miaomiao today.

“Xiao Miaomiao, did you ever love me?” If she did, why was she so calm about the divorce, not showing any sadness at all.

Xiao Miaomiao was taken aback by the question and didn’t turn around. “I did. Three days ago, I went to get my physical examination results, and the doctor said my body had recovered well and I could have children now.”

“I was so happy that I wanted to call you and tell you that we could have a child. Then, I saw you supporting Liu Yueyue to the gynecology department. I followed you and heard your conversation with the doctor. From the moment I knew you had betrayed me, I withdrew my love.” Xiao Miaomiao said calmly.

“It’s not that I don’t like you, or don’t love you, it’s just that I don’t love you enough. And you, you’re not worth my love.” After saying that, Xiao Miaomiao left. She had to go back to the Xiao family.

Hong Wenbin listened, feeling a sense of loss in his heart. A voice inside him said he would regret it.

Hong Wenbin thought back to his daily life with Xiao Miaomiao over the past year, his eyes turning red.

Xiao Miaomiao didn’t know if he would regret it, nor did she want to know. She had to hurry back and dissuade her father from his plans to sell her for money.
