Chapter 75: Persistence
“You’re only twenty-three years old, your life is just beginning, there are countless possibilities in the future.”
“I don’t want to see you fall apart because of Hong Wenbin’s betrayal, and I don’t want to see you marry a vegetable who will never wake up for the sake of a so-called comfortable life.” Jiang Lin looked at Xiao Miaomiao with a serious face, his eyes filled with worry and heartache.
“You should be enjoying pursuing love at your age, there’s no need to give up on yourself because of that scumbag’s hurt. You have me, and Big Brother protecting you, don’t worry about being hurt again.” Jiang Lin said earnestly, hoping to change Xiao Miaomiao’s mind.
Xiao Miaomiao knew Jiang Lin was doing it for her good, but she still wanted to persevere in this marriage.
Seeing her so determined, Jiang Lin sighed helplessly, “I don’t agree, and I don’t approve of your marriage to Li Jingcheng. Get a divorce.”
“I came here today to discuss divorce with you. Everything the Li family gave will be returned. It was indeed our fault for going back on our word. If the Li family wants compensation, feel free to ask, I will make up for it.” Jiang Lin didn’t avoid the Li family’s butler and said directly.
“Brother Lin, I can agree to anything else, but divorce is impossible. I’ve made up my mind, I’m a Li family member in life, and a Li family ghost in death.” Xiao Miaomiao looked at him and said.
Jiang Lin frowned, puzzled and asked, “Why? Do you really plan to spend your whole life with a vegetable?”
The butler’s face turned very ugly after hearing this.
He hurriedly ran to find the old lady, telling her that the second young master of the Jiang family wanted to force the young mistress to divorce. After hearing this, the old lady pondered for a moment, but still told the butler not to interfere.
Ultimately, it all depends on Xiao Miaomiao’s own will.
Although they hadn’t spent much time with Xiao Miaomiao, they were very satisfied with her. However, the more they liked her, the stronger the guilt they felt.
After all, everyone knew Li Jingcheng’s current situation. It was truly unfair to Xiao Miaomiao. Such a good girl should be cherished and protected by someone better.
“Old lady, are you really not going to go over and stop the second young master? If the young mistress is persuaded by him to divorce, what will happen to our young master?”
The butler asked anxiously. He always favored Li Jingcheng in his heart, after all, he had watched him grow up.
“Matters of the heart ultimately depend on fate. And Jingcheng is still in a coma, Miaomiao and him never had a deep relationship. We were too eager at the time and used the lure of benefits to get Miaomiao to agree to marry Jingcheng.”
“If Miaomiao really wants to stay, even if her cousin tries to persuade her, she won’t waver. But if she really wants to leave, how can we force her to stay?” The old lady sighed helplessly.
“If she’s willing to stay, we’ll treat her well and care for her. If she wants to leave, although it’s a pity, I also want her to be happy. It’s great if she can find someone who truly loves her.”
The old lady thought to herself, the phone conversation she overheard in the garden made her feel very sorry for Miaomiao.
This child, although she has the love of the Jiang family, is not their own after all, there is a layer of separation.
Her biological father and brother both wanted her dead, it’s so unfair! She’s so good, she shouldn’t be treated like this.
The butler, hearing the old lady’s words, knew she had made up her mind, so he didn’t say anything more.
After all, the old lady was right. They couldn’t force Miaomiao to stay, they could only hope that their kindness to her over these days would touch her heart and make her stay voluntarily.
Xiao Miaomiao looked at the angry Jiang Lin and carefully tugged at his sleeve, softly saying, “Brother Lin, don’t be angry, drink some water.” She looked at him with gentle eyes, hoping he would calm down.
Jiang Lin, however, still had a proud look, staring at her with wide eyes, muttering, “I’m not drinking, I’ll die of thirst! That way, you won’t find me annoying and you won’t have to be controlled by me.” He then deliberately turned his head away, pretending to ignore Xiao Miaomiao.
Xiao Miaomiao couldn’t help but laugh at his antics.
But she still leaned against his shoulder and softly said, “Brother Lin, I’m serious, if this marriage can work, I want to persevere. Loving someone is too scary, I’m afraid of getting hurt.” Her voice trembled slightly, as if the fear in her heart surged out at this moment.
Lin Lin frowned, a hint of heartache flashed in his eyes. He gently patted Xiao Miaomiao’s back and comforted her, “Hong Wenbin was an accident. Your next partner, I and Big Brother will dig up his ancestors for eighteen generations, and we’ll check on him regularly. We’ll absolutely not allow him to hurt you.”
Xiao Miaomiao was also amused by his words and continued, “You can think I’m weak, Mom, for the sake of Xiao Lin, she broke off relations with Grandpa. In the end, she only got Xiao Lin’s betrayal and resentment, and she ended up dying young.”
Her tone was filled with helplessness and sadness, as if she was recalling her mother’s past experiences.
Jiang Lin couldn’t refute, after all, his aunt’s life was indeed because she fell in love with Xiao Lin, which led to her early death. The irony is that before his aunt died, she didn’t let them, the Jiang family, take revenge on Xiao Lin for her.
Xiao Miaomiao said self-deprecatingly, “As for me, in the year I was with Hong Wenbin, I believe I gave my all. I managed the house well, took care of his food and clothing, learned to cook for him, accompanied him to banquets I hated, and engaged in fake lady diplomacy.”
“My former mother-in-law was a very serious person, and she highly approved of me. But even so, Hong Wenbin still had an affair. The affair was with someone who was inferior to me in every way. Really, my first reaction was how could I be so blind to fall for a guy like Hong Wenbin.”
“If he had found a woman who was better than me in any way, I would have accepted it. But he actually found a green tea who was good for nothing, only knew how to cry and whine, and was a dog who relied on others for power to betray me.” Xiao Miaomiao was now grateful that Hong Wenbin hadn’t touched her, otherwise, she wouldn’t have just settled for half of her property.
“With Mom’s precedent and my own experience, really, I dare not believe in so-called love anymore. I don’t want to gamble on a man’s loyalty.”
“I’m going to get married eventually, I don’t want to be a troublesome and annoying little sister-in-law.” Xiao Miaomiao looked seriously at Jiang Lin.
Jiang Lin frowned upon hearing this, “Don’t say that. If you don’t want to get married, I’ll support you for the rest of your life. And you’re not a burden, the Jiang family is your home, no one can drive you away. And if the wife I marry can’t accept you, can’t like you, then I’d rather not have her.”
