Chapter 7: Please Call Me President Wen
All senior executives and shareholders, including those who had sold shares to Wen Ya, were present.
“Silent? Let me introduce myself,” Wen Ya began. “Most of you know me. Some watched me grow up, though my studies abroad created some distance. Newer members may not know me. I’m Wen Ya, Wen Qihua’s daughter, and now Wen’s largest shareholder. Any objections?”
“The shares are in your name. No objections here,” the marketing manager said.
“Xiao Ya, this…”
Wen Ya cut off President Lin. “This is the company. Address me as President Wen.”
“Okay! President Wen.” President Lin squinted his eyes. It seemed she was here to sell shares today. Were they not worried about the stock price dropping so much? “The company’s stock has hit the daily limit for four days straight. In just one week, the company has lost hundreds of millions. Not to mention the damage to our reputation. If this continues, we’ll be close to bankruptcy.”
“Yes, Wen’s is at a critical point. Mr. Wen, you just graduated and have never been involved in the company. If you become chairman now, can you really handle the pressure and turn things around?” Director Wu added.
“Mr. Wen, the current situation is very bad for Wen’s. I suggest we find someone experienced, steady, and familiar with Wen’s to be chairman,” Director Wang chimed in.
Several senior executives nodded slightly, clearly agreeing.
Strangely, except for Directors Lin, Wu, and Wang, the other directors just sat quietly, not saying a word.
Seeing everyone looking at her, Wen Ya calmly asked, “Does anyone else have a different opinion?”
“Mr. Wen, I agree with Mr. Lin. The company isn’t a game. We’re facing many crises. We need a new chairman to stabilize partners and shareholders. Plus, there are rumors the city government doubts we can finish the west city project. It seems someone suggested not cooperating with Wen’s,” another executive said, hinting at a threat.
Wen Ya glanced at him, thinking he was implying she was too young to handle partners, shareholders, or the government.
“How about a vote?” Wen Ya looked at the eight shareholders. “Please raise your hand if you agree to elect a new chairman.”
Only Mr. Lin and two others raised their hands. The rest stayed still.
President Lin looked shocked. “What? You want to hand the company to this inexperienced girl?”
A man resembling Wen Ya stood up, looked at Mr. Lin, then at Wen Ya, and said, “You’re better than your father, but this company wouldn’t be this big without us.” He opened the door, saw the police outside, sighed, and said, “Your father would be relieved.”
“Thank you, second uncle,” Wen Ya smiled, watching four shareholders leave. She turned to President Lin and said, “I’ve accepted the shares from the uncles. Now I own 81% of the shares. Almost 82% after today. Am I qualified to be chairman?”
Mr. Lin and his companions stared in disbelief.
Suddenly, Mr. Lin snapped, “Those rumors outside? Are you crazy? This is your father’s life work. He’s unconscious in the hospital, and you’re destroying it!”
“How ironic coming from you. You knew Wen’s was my father’s life work, yet you plotted to take it over when he was barely alive. You even tried to buy my shares cheap and rename Wen’s? My father would be furious,” Wen Ya retorted, angry at their greed.
“Assistant Wang,” Wen Ya called.
“Mr. Wen.”
“Send them the documents.”
Mr. Lin grabbed the documents before Assistant Wang could set them down. His face turned pale, and his hands shook. The executives across from him shook even more.
“Mr. Lin, will you leave on your own, or shall someone escort you out?” Wen Ya pointed at the documents.
The other two directors looked at their documents, filled with evidence of embezzlement and kickbacks. Their faces changed.
“Mr. Wen, this is all fake,” one executive shouted.
Wen Ya smiled gently. “A lot has happened. I don’t have time to listen to your explanations. But I’ve found someone who will. Assistant Wang, bring them in.”
Soon, Lawyer Ye and the police entered the meeting room and took away all the executives except two.
“Uncle Wang, Uncle Bai, you’ve been with my father the longest. The company is what it is today thanks to you, but my father has been kind to you too. Return what you shouldn’t have taken, and I won’t pursue it.”
The two lowered their heads, stood up, and left silently.
Looking at the now-empty conference room, Wen Ya took a deep breath. The tough battle was coming, and she couldn’t relax yet.
“Notify the reporters. I’ll hold a press conference in two hours.”
“Mr. Wen, here’s the company information you asked for,” Assistant Wang said cautiously.
Everyone in the company was scared. No one expected Wen’s eldest daughter, who had never appeared before, to overthrow all the shareholders and executives in one move, even having most of them arrested. She was ruthless, extremely ruthless.
Wen Ya flipped through the pages. “Have Ji’s people arrived?”
“Ji’s people are coming?” Assistant Wang asked, surprised.
“My mistake. Ji’s people will be here soon. Have someone watch downstairs and inform me when they arrive,” Wen Ya said, realizing she hadn’t mentioned Ji’s earlier.
“This is my arrangement,” Assistant Wang said, almost bowing. “I’ll take my leave.”
“Okay.”
Assistant Wang held his chest as he walked out. Downstairs, coworkers whispered, “Why are you sweating? You look pale!”
“You go in if you’re so brave,” Assistant Wang said, still shaken by Wen Ya’s powerful presence.
“No way. When she looked at me in the elevator this morning, I felt frozen.”
“Is she really that scary?”
“Her presence is huge. Who said she’s just a pretty face? They’re blind.”
“Stop talking! Do you want the police to take you too?” When the elevator arrived, everyone went quiet.
Wen Ya, who everyone called a queen, was actually sweating and shaking. She held the armrests to steady herself, leaning back in her chair. She looked around her father’s office. On the desk was a family photo from her graduation, with her parents smiling happily.
Wen Ya smiled. “Now that I’m here as your daughter, I’ll protect the Wen family and wait for you to wake up.”
