“Don’t ask about what happened earlier, and don’t laugh at me!”
Shuxin was afraid that Yan Mo would ask her more questions. As she walked out of the bathroom, she gave up and muttered to herself.
“Okay, come eat breakfast,” Yan Mo smiled indulgently.
Just seeing Shuxin’s face turn bright red, Yan Mo didn’t need to ask. It was definitely related to the kiss from last night.
The breakfast that Yan Mo had brought was already set out on the table.
Though they hadn’t been together for long, the atmosphere between them was unexpectedly warm and harmonious. Even when neither of them spoke, doing their own things, it didn’t feel awkward.
When Yan Mo and Shuxin appeared together at the girls’ dormitory, it was no surprise that it caused quite a stir.
In just one hour, the entire school forum, tieba, and Weibo were filled with posts discussing their relationship.
The stars of the gossip were sitting in a quiet corner of the cafeteria, having lunch together.
It all started when Shuxin said she couldn’t imagine Yan Mo eating in the cafeteria; she felt like the cafeteria didn’t match his demeanor.
Yan Mo looked at his silly girlfriend, then made the decision to have lunch in the cafeteria.
From the moment he took her to the cafeteria, got his tray, and sat down, Shuxin realized that her boyfriend was surprisingly down-to-earth!
There was no sense of disharmony!
Today was the first day she discovered a new side of her boyfriend!
“Yan Mo, look, now the whole school knows you have a girlfriend. Even if I’m not by your side in the future, you have to keep your distance from other girls and maintain your integrity as a man,” Shuxin said, holding up a discussion post she found online.
“Yes, yes, yes, I’ll definitely stay five meters away from them. Now, eat your food, no more phone for you. You’ll get indigestion if you keep looking at it,” Yan Mo said, glancing at the content on Shuxin’s phone, unable to suppress a smile.
There was nothing he could do; his girlfriend was like this, so he had to spoil her.
Yan Mo didn’t pay much attention to the online content and just let it spread that they were in a relationship.
It wasn’t just Shuxin who wanted to declare ownership; Yan Mo did too.
While Shuxin was thinking about her own popularity with Yan Mo, she forgot that she was also surrounded by admirers.
Shuxin’s possessiveness and her actions to declare ownership made Yan Mo feel extremely satisfied.
Time passed quickly, and soon half a semester was gone. The supermarket and pharmacy that Shuxin had bought were running smoothly again.
The professional manager she hired with a high salary continued to do a good job.
Although the supermarket’s business wasn’t as good as the ones in the city center or residential areas, it was now able to operate normally without losing money.
Shuxin had noticed that every time they restocked, she took about a third of the items, but the manager didn’t ask any questions. Instead, he’d order a little more each time.
The biggest taboo in their line of work was to know the secrets of the owner.
From the first time they noticed more stock in the warehouse, neither of them said anything, and it became an unspoken understanding between them.
There were many holidays coming up later in the year, and Shuxin didn’t miss any opportunities to stock up on goods.
She even borrowed some items to give as employee benefits, providing reasons for company dinners.
It wasn’t just an excuse; Shuxin made sure all the necessary benefits were given to the employees.
Most of the things given away were long-lasting items like rice, flour, and oil, which could be stored for a long time if unopened.
Using these reasons, Shuxin was able to legitimately order large quantities of ready-to-eat food for her stores.
Since Shuxin had to attend classes, the meals for employees were delivered directly to the supermarket and pharmacy, while the stock she kept was brought over by car on weekends.
She made sure each store received their deliveries, adding realism and easing any suspicions.
In addition to frequent online shopping, Shuxin now had a large stockpile of pre-made meals, self-heating hot pots, rice, snacks, nuts, chocolates, energy bars, and even compressed crackers that could fill her up.
When she was alone, she could enjoy good food, but in front of others, she needed things to cover up.
She understood the principle of not showing off her wealth.
Shuxin and Yan Mo’s relationship was progressing rapidly—one wanted to cling to the other, and the other wanted to lock down their prey.
As they both slowly opened up to each other, their feelings accelerated, and Shuxin’s trust in Yan Mo grew day by day.
On New Year’s Eve, Shuxin decided it was time to confess the “end-of-the-world” secret to Yan Mo.
As the fireworks faded into the night, leaving behind a faint glow that reminded everyone of how beautiful the display had been, Shuxin turned to Yan Mo, who had been watching the fireworks with her.
“I’ve actually been hiding something from you.”
“I know,” Yan Mo turned to meet Shuxin’s eyes.
Yan Mo, who always paid 100% attention to his girlfriend, had already realized that she was hiding something.
Every week, she would have one day when she went out alone, not letting him tag along.
He had considered sending someone to follow her, but he didn’t. He wanted to hear the secret from Shuxin herself, not find out through other means.
Knowing about something through his own efforts and having Shuxin open up to him meant completely different things.
“Well, you’re so smart,” Shuxin looked into Yan Mo’s deep and gentle eyes, and suddenly felt her tension ease.
“More than half a year ago, after my parents passed away, I had seven days of nightmares. The content of the dreams was always the same, and it made me very anxious and scared.”
“Later, the scenes from the dreams started appearing in reality and were confirmed one by one. I realized something was wrong. Those dreams seemed to not just be dreams—they seemed to predict the future.”
Yan Mo furrowed his brow slightly but didn’t interrupt her. He listened quietly.
“In the dreams, our world entered an apocalyptic era. At first, when the heavy rains began, no one took it seriously, thinking it would stop like usual. But after a month, the rain didn’t stop, and people started realizing something was wrong.”
“The rain lasted for over three months, flooding many buildings, and food was inevitably spoiled or washed away. Before people could even celebrate the end of the rain, the temperature started dropping rapidly, reaching minus thirty degrees, and it continued to fall.”
“With temperatures reaching minus fifty, the whole world seemed to fall into a dead silence. But the disaster didn’t end there. After four months of extreme cold, people were faced with scorching heat and, after that, a zombie virus outbreak.”
“Society collapsed completely, and a new civilization for the apocalypse was rebuilt. Survival of the fittest became the rule, with humans, animals, and plants all mutating to adapt to the world.”
