As soon as the movie started, Yu Qian instantly got into the mood, staring intently at the big screen.
Jiang Zheng, sitting right next to her, felt an unbearable itch in his heart. Why didn’t this silly girl choose to sit on the couch instead?
If she had, they could have been much closer, rather than sitting apart like this. The thought left Jiang Zheng feeling a little frustrated.
At this moment, Yu Qian’s mind was completely immersed in the movie. The home theater was small, but in exchange, the visual and audio effects were amazing.
There were no crying children, no whispering couples, no ringing phones, and no heads randomly popping up in front of her like in a regular cinema! This was the best movie-watching experience she had ever had.
Compared to Yu Qian’s full concentration, Jiang Zheng seemed much less interested. At first, he worried that she might try to discuss the movie with him, so he forced himself to watch seriously for a few minutes. But after realizing that Yu Qian preferred watching on her own, he stopped even bothering to look at the screen.
Honestly, if he had to watch an animated film, he’d rather see Ultraman.
Jiang Zheng leaned back in his seat, tilting his head to look at Yu Qian. The surrounding darkness made the light from the screen cast soft shadows on her face.
From his angle, he could see the slightly messy strands of hair on her head and the flickering brightness in her eyes as if starlight was shimmering within them. Her nose wasn’t particularly high, but it looked small and delicate. And then…… there were her lips.
Yu Qian occasionally laughed, her lips parting and closing as she did. Jiang Zheng’s Adam’s apple moved, his gaze locking onto her lips, itching to explore them himself.
He slowly leaned toward her, inch by inch.
The faint scent of bubblegum drifted into his nose again, his heartbeat growing louder than the sound of the movie. His hands unconsciously clenched into fists on his lap.
Closer, closer.
Just a little more, and he could rest his head on Yu Qian’s shoulder. Hopefully, no one would suddenly interrupt them. The door wasn’t locked! Please, let no one come in!
Fortunately, no one barged in.
Jiang Zheng successfully rested his head on Yu Qian’s shoulder.
He felt her entire body stiffen in an instant. A smug smirk tugged at the corners of his lips, but the cold sweat in his palms betrayed his nervousness.
To maintain balance, he propped his elbow on the armrest between them, while his head settled comfortably on Yu Qian’s shoulder. As he shifted slightly, a strand of Yu Qian’s hair brushed against his face, making his skin tingle.

The moment Jiang Zheng leaned on her, Yu Qian froze. Countless thoughts flashed through her mind before one single question remained— Wasn’t it usually the girl who rested her head on the guy’s shoulder? If Jiang Zheng did this…… didn’t that mean she could just tilt her head and kiss him?
What should she do? Should she push him away or let him stay like this?
Though she didn’t particularly dislike Jiang Zheng’s actions, it was seriously distracting her from watching the movie.
Yu Qian became so tangled in her thoughts that she could no longer focus on the film.
The movie continued playing but the two of them seemed frozen in time, neither daring to break the silence.
In the end, Yu Qian couldn’t endure it any longer. Maintaining this posture was getting uncomfortable and her waist was starting to ache.
After hesitating several times, she finally reached out and pushed Jiang Zheng’s head.
“Get up, my shoulder is sore.”
Jiang Zheng felt the small hand on his head, sighed in regret, and reluctantly sat up. He then looked at Yu Qian with a teasing smile. “Want me to give you a massage?”
“No!” Yu Qian quickly cut him off before he could say anything else. “Don’t disturb me while I’m watching the movie!”
Seeing her firm attitude, Jiang Zheng had no choice but to suppress the restless feeling in his heart.
In the end, neither of them fully enjoyed the two-hour-long movie. Yu Qian was annoyed. What started as a perfectly good movie had been ruined by Jiang Zheng’s antics.
As the screen faded to black, the room plunged into darkness, leaving only the sound of their breathing.
“Even a tree in the movie found its guardian spirit. When will I finally get a girlfriend? What do you think, Little Fish?” Jiang Zheng asked in a deliberately low and aggrieved tone.
His words referenced a scene from the film they had just watched. Yu Qian’s face instantly flushed when she heard his deep voice say something like that.
Thankfully, the darkness concealed her embarrassment, preventing her from completely losing her composure.
Feeling both flustered and anxious, she avoided answering and instead changed the subject, “I saw several retracted messages from you on WeChat today…… What did you delete?”
Jiang Zheng: “…….” He didn’t want to answer that question.
Noticing his silence, Yu Qian grew even more curious. She urged, “Was it another photo?”
Now it was Jiang Zheng’s turn to feel awkward. He replied stiffly, “Answer my question first, and I’ll tell you what I sent last night.”
In the darkness, they stared at each other in a silent standoff.
Sensing that this wasn’t going anywhere, Yu Qian quietly stood up and tried to sneak toward the door. But just as she took a step, she accidentally stepped on Jiang Zheng’s outstretched leg.
Both of them let out simultaneous yelps.
Jiang Zheng yelped from the pain, while Yu Qian lost her balance and fell forward.
Startled by Yu Qian’s sudden scream, Jiang Zheng ignored his own pain and instinctively reached out to catch her.
His hands made contact— but the touch felt wrong.
It wasn’t her shoulder.
It wasn’t her waist.
It was soft. And bouncy.
“Smack!”
Yu Qian slapped his hands away with a face so red it was about to drip blood. “Jiang Zheng! Where do you think you’re touching?!”
Jiang Zheng’s heart pounded wildly. Even though the sensation on his palm had vanished, the lingering touch still replayed in his mind.
Yu Qian quickly scrambled up from the floor, now too afraid to move recklessly. Flustered and furious, she snapped, “Turn on the lights already!”
Still lost in his thoughts, Jiang Zheng finally reacted and fumbled for the remote on his seat. The lights instantly turned on, flooding the room with brightness.
Yu Qian squinted, shielding her eyes with her hand to adjust to the sudden change.
Jiang Zheng, still grinning from ear to ear, studied her carefully. “Are you okay? Did you hurt yourself?”
Yu Qian lowered her hand and glared at his smug face, feeling utterly defeated. She mumbled in a low voice, “I’m fine.”
The entire floor was carpeted, so the fall wasn’t painful at all. The one who should be concerned was actually Jiang Zheng.
Yu Qian asked, “What about your leg?”
“It’s fine.” Jiang Zheng replied nonchalantly, still grinning. Honestly, if stepping on his leg meant he got to experience that…… he wouldn’t mind being stepped on a few more times.
Now that he thought about it, the touch was too brief. All he remembered was how soft it felt, but he hadn’t gotten to savor it properly. Jiang Zheng regretfully rubbed his fingers together.
Seeing his thoughtful expression, Yu Qian became both embarrassed and annoyed. She wanted to smack him, but instead, she chose the better option— escape.
She hurriedly bid him a quick goodbye and bolted out of the Jiang family’s house without looking back.
The moment she returned to her room, she dove under the blanket and let out a muffled scream.
“Ahhhhhh!”
She should have never left the house today! Now, even her butt had been groped!
