Chapter 18: No Wonder You Like Her So Much
Xie Fangzhu’s voice was extremely calm, as if he was casually asking Shen Yingying what she wanted to eat today.
But in the fat man’s ears, it was like a thunderbolt.
He was very nervous, thinking that Shen Yingying was deliberately trying to fix him.
Otherwise, he had begged for so long, his hands were numb, why didn’t she say anything?
He felt cold, rushed over to grab Shen Yingying’s trouser legs, begging with tears and snot all over his face, “Sister-in-law, I really know I was wrong! Please don’t let Brother Xie do it again! He… ouch!”
Before he could finish speaking, he let out a painful cry, and his collar was grabbed by Han Wei, who threw him aside like a chicken.
Han Wei’s thick eyebrows stood on end, and his voice was as loud as thunder, “You’re really bold, how dare you touch my sister-in-law?!”
The fat man was still in shock, his eyes fell on Han Wei, who was as big as a mountain, and he almost fainted.
Xie Fangzhu made it tough for him; adding another giant like Han Wei—it was like they were trying to kill him!
Seeing the pale face of the chubby man, Shen Yingying suddenly remembered that she had been so focused on watching Han Wei that she had forgotten about him. If this kept up, the poor guy might be scared to death.
She quickly shook her head and said to Xie Fangzhu, “No need, just teach him a lesson, that’s enough.”
“Alright.”
Hearing Xie Fangzhu’s words, the chubby man, who had been tense to the limit, immediately collapsed in relief.
He had just been terrified out of his mind. Luckily, the lady had spared him! What a relief!
Han Wei spat at him, “Usually, my bro is nice, but when he doesn’t get mad, does everyone think he’s a kitten? If you don’t know what’s good for you next time, I won’t have the same patience as my brother!”
With that, he eagerly followed Xie Fangzhu.
Xie Fangzhu gave a nod toward the cafeteria window and gestured to Shen Yingying. “Let’s go.”
Shen Yingying quickly followed, and behind her, she heard the chubby man’s grateful voice: “Thank you, sister-in-law! Thank you for being so merciful!”
She couldn’t help but twitch her mouth at that. She had originally thought Xie Fangzhu would only give them a light scolding, but she didn’t expect it to turn into such a big scene.
It really surprised her.
But she didn’t feel too burdened by it. Although she was mentally strong, that didn’t mean she liked being scolded.
Xie Fangzhu’s little display meant no one would dare openly insult her in the future. That was actually pretty good.
With that thought, she quickened her pace, walking alongside Xie Fangzhu, and, imitating Han Wei, she called out to him, “Bro, thank you!”
Xie Fangzhu had never heard her call him “bro” before, and hearing it today… it actually felt quite nice.
The way she said “bro” so softly made him feel like his steel-like body had gone soft.
Unable to help himself, he glanced down at her. The stray hairs by her temple were soft, and her cheeks had a rosy glow he hadn’t noticed before. Her eyes were smiling, with lashes fluttering in a captivating arc.
— Damn, she really looks good.
The thought popped into his mind, and he quickly turned his gaze away, trying to act calm. “You’re my wife. If I don’t protect you, who will?”
They had reached the window by then. The cafeteria worker, still disoriented from the earlier chaos, looked at Xie Fangzhu with a slightly nervous gaze and asked him what he wanted to eat in broken Mandarin.
Xie Fangzhu casually picked a few items and, after paying for his meal ticket, paid for Shen Yingying’s meal too.
Their interaction left the giant behind them almost speechless, his eyes wide in shock. This situation was definitely off today!
Normally, Shen Yingying would never acknowledge his big brother’s kindness like this. She would never express any gratitude, and might even end up criticizing him harshly.
Why were they so… harmonious today? Even thanking Big Brother?
Had she somehow lost her mind?
His head was spinning as he finally finished ordering. By the time he caught up to Xie Fangzhu and Shen Yingying, the two had already found a seat.
The three of them sat down—Shen Yingying and Xie Fangzhu on one side, and the giant on the other.
As soon as the giant sat down, his eyes started wandering, moving back and forth between Xie Fangzhu and Shen Yingying’s faces, like he was trying to find a flower on their faces.
Xie Fangzhu couldn’t take it anymore and shot him a glare. “What are you staring at? Hurry up and eat.”
Even though the giant was big, in front of Xie Fangzhu, he was just a subordinate. He quickly lowered his eyes and awkwardly laughed, “Hehe, I won’t look anymore. I’ll eat now!”
He shoved a piece of egg into his mouth, but his eyes couldn’t help but sneak a glance at Shen Yingying. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Shen Yingying seemed different today—she didn’t have the usual fierce look on her face.
Seemingly sensing his gaze, Shen Yingying looked up and gave him a smile.
It was as if he had been caught doing something bad. The giant’s face turned bright red, and he quickly lowered his eyes.
Damn! Normally, sister-in-law wouldn’t even look at him, and today, she actually smiled at him! The sun must be setting in the west!
The giant devoured a few buns, but his mind kept replaying Shen Yingying’s smile, making the food taste bland.
Unable to resist, he leaned over toward Xie Fangzhu and quietly asked, “Bro, why are you out with sister-in-law today?”
He actually wanted to ask, Why has she suddenly become so nice? but for some reason, he didn’t dare to say it aloud.
Xie Fangzhu shot him a look and asked, “What’s wrong with that?”
The giant thought to himself, Of course there’s nothing wrong with it, but I’m just curious!
But he didn’t press further. With his brother’s temperament, if he didn’t want to talk, no amount of questioning would get him to speak.
The men finished their meal quickly. By the time Shen Yingying had barely eaten half of hers, Xie Fangzhu and the giant had already finished.
She glanced at their empty plates and, biting into her bun, said to Xie Fangzhu, “Xie Fangzhu, it’s getting late. I’m still not done, so you and Han Wei can head to work first.”
Hearing that, Xie Fangzhu’s eyes narrowed slightly. Although her voice was sweet when she said “Xie Fangzhu,” he still preferred the “bro” from earlier.
Han Wei, sitting beside him, was shocked, staring at Shen Yingying in disbelief. “Sister-in-law, you know my name?”
Seeing his jaw nearly hit the floor, Shen Yingying thought to herself that the original “Shen Yingying” certainly hadn’t known his name.
Of course, she couldn’t say that out loud. She smiled at Han Wei and casually lied, “I heard your name from Bro before, so I remembered it.”
That one sentence completely changed Han Wei’s impression of her, and he was deeply touched.
He realized that his brother had only called his name a few times, yet sister-in-law had actually remembered it. Despite her usual stern demeanor, she was really a good person. No wonder his brother liked her so much!
Sister-in-law really was cold on the outside but warm on the inside! He had misunderstood her before, even secretly badmouthing her. He felt truly guilty now!
He was filled with regret and remorse, and in the end, all his thoughts were condensed into one sentence: “Sister-in-law, you’re really great!”
After saying that, he couldn’t help but add, as if he had just discovered a treasure, “Damn! Bro, I just realized how great sister-in-law is! No wonder you like her so much!”
Although he deliberately lowered his voice, Shen Yingying, sitting at the same table, still heard him.
Just knowing her name made him so excited, Shen Yingying couldn’t help but feel like the words “silly, sweet, and naïve” were slowly floating above Han Wei’s head.
