Chapter 7

Pei Yuning took a wet wipe from her bag and wiped her fingers that had touched Xu Wei’s shoulder, her attitude casual, “Stop acting like a victim. You deserve it. That’s what happens when you’re inferior. Instead of blaming others, blame yourself. If you were stronger than him, you could have done the same to him.”

A mocking laugh sounded from behind.

Pei Yuning turned her head. The spring morning sun was still a bit harsh, she raised her wrist to shield her eyes and looked over.

A man walked out from under the weeping cherry tree. He was wearing a black shirt and carrying a slightly wrinkled suit jacket, looking like a suave scoundrel. He lazily curled his lips and said nonchalantly, “My precious little sister, is this how you ‘scheme’ against your brother behind his back?”

Pei Yuning retorted, “When did you learn to eavesdrop?”

Pei Yuchen, tall and leggy, walked over in three strides, naturally and familiarly taking the bag from her hand. “Little princess, your brother is here to make sure you don’t get bullied.”

“Brother, you can turn off the puppy filter a little. I’m an adult now, thank you.” Pei Yuning turned and walked towards the main house.

Pei Yuchen laughed and followed, not even glancing at Xu Wei kneeling on the bluestone bricks.

They entered the main house and changed into slippers.

Their grandparents were sitting by the window, basking in the sun and playing chess. They looked up when they heard the sound.

Old Mrs. Pei put down her white chess piece and instructed Aunt Chen, the housekeeper beside her, “Go get the soup from the kitchen.”

Aunt Chen: “Yes.”

“Grandpa, Grandma.” The siblings greeted them politely.

Old Mr. Pei responded with a smile. Seeing that his wife didn’t want to continue playing chess, he began to tidy up the board.

Old Mrs. Pei pulled Pei Yuning over, touched her cheek, and said in a doting tone, “You’ve lost weight again. When Yunzhi comes back, I’ll definitely tell him off. You’re his only sister, he should cherish and pamper you. Traveling is so tiring.”

Pei Yuning hugged her grandmother’s shoulder and acted cute, “Grandma, I volunteered for it, don’t blame Big Brother. You can’t let people say that the Pei family’s eldest daughter is just a spoiled, good-for-nothing brat, can you?”

Aunt Chen brought two bowls of soup.

Old Mrs. Pei said, “What others think doesn’t matter. Since you’re determined to challenge yourself, go for it. But your health is the most important thing. If you’re tired from work, take some time to rest and relax. The Pei family doesn’t need you to work so hard.”

“I understand.” Pei Yuning sat at the table and drank the soup.

Old Mrs. Pei changed the topic to Pei Yuchen, “You’re not young anymore, when are you and Qingzhu planning to get engaged?”

Pei Yuchen took a sip of the soup, then put it down casually, “Big Brother is 28 and he’s not in a hurry, why should I be in a hurry?”

“Your big brother is busy with all sorts of things in the company. Forget about girlfriends, he can’t even find a woman in the entire building, including the secretaries in his office. Every time I go there, it’s just a sea of black, no color at all.” Old Mrs. Pei glared at him, “You have less work and more free time, you’ve been with Qingzhu for three years, still no commitment.”

Pei Yuchen stood up, picked up the suit jacket hanging on the back of his chair, and said with a mischievous smile, “Alright, I’ll go upstairs and tidy up, then drive over to ask her clearly, when she’s planning to marry me.”

“That’s more like it.” Old Mrs. Pei watched him go upstairs, reminding him, “Remember to bring a bouquet of flowers, and some diamond, emerald, and jade jewelry necklaces.”

Pei Yuchen chuckled, “Don’t worry.”

Pei Yuning finished her soup and looked around the hall, asking, “Where’s Jinjin?”

Old Mrs. Pei said, “Last night, the people downstairs didn’t watch her closely, she snuck into your big brother’s study and stole some coffee. She made a racket all night, she’s still sleeping in your bedroom.”

“The little rascal.” Pei Yuning couldn’t help but laugh.

Old Mr. Pei put away the black and white chess pieces, took a sip of tea, “That’s right. She came to scratch on the door in the middle of the night, acting so pitiful, but after she got in, she started jumping around and having fun, just like you when you were little.”

Pei Yuning smiled sweetly, “I haven’t seen her in a few days, I’ll go up and check on her.”

“Go ahead.” Old Mrs. Pei remembered something, “Your grandfather sent a set of jewelry boxes yesterday, and they’re on the dressing table in your bedroom.”

Pei Yuning: “Okay.”

Entering the bedroom, Pei Yuning opened the box. It was a complete set of purple diamond jewelry. Purple diamonds are rare and precious, collecting and polishing so many would cost a fortune.

She closed the box. It was too expensive. She would have to personally return it to Grandpa Shang on the day of the engagement cancellation.

Pei Yuning walked to the soft cat bed and petted Jinjin’s little pink paws, then went to the bathroom.

After taking a shower, Pei Yuning started picking out the dress and jewelry she would wear that night.

Jinjin woke up at this moment, smelling her owner’s scent, she climbed out of the cat bed. Seeing Pei Yuning, she immediately started meowing with her little squeaky voice, and used her fluffy tail to wrap around her ankles.

Pei Yuning was ticklish, she reached out and hugged Jinjin, petting her head and chin, “Did you miss me?”

Jinjin rubbed against her: “Meow meow~ meow meow~”

Pei Yuning: “Don’t steal coffee anymore, or I’ll take away your dried fish.”

Jinjin’s tail drooped, looking pitiful: “Meow meow~”

She checked the time, it was almost noon. Pei Yuning made a call, asking someone to keep an eye on Xu Wei as she left Yu Hua Manor.

After kneeling for almost two hours, her legs were trembling with every step she took. After leaving Yu Hua Manor, Xu Wei turned around and looked at the four characters with hatred in her eyes.

If she had a noble background, Pei Yuning would be the one kneeling today. Why was she better than her in every way?

Xu Wei was unwilling, she was truly unwilling!

On her phone, her agent kept sending messages, one endorsement after another was lost.

Pei Yuchen was ruthless, he wanted to completely ban her from the entertainment industry.

The phone rang, it was Qi Yue.

She numbly answered, and heard him ask, “Do you know what kind of man Pei Yuning met in City Z?”

Xu Wei: “I don’t know.”

Qi Yue cursed, “You’re really useless. I was blind to work with you. You even got Shang Heng into the room, and you still couldn’t handle him. If they don’t break up, I’m finished with you.”

“So you think it’ll be your turn if they break up?” Xu Wei sarcastically challenged, “If you have time to scold me, why don’t you think about drugging Pei Yuning and sleeping with her that would make you truly amazing.”

Xu Wei hung up the phone immediately after she finished speaking.

In the hospital, Qi Yue was furious.

He smashed his phone against the wall, the screen shattered into four pieces and fell to the ground.

He pulled too hard in a moment of anger, pulling on the spot where his right arm was fractured. He gasped in pain, his face was gloomy.

He didn’t know what kind of person that man was last night, and he couldn’t find any clues. He couldn’t swallow this, he had to get revenge for this broken arm.

Pei Yuning could only be his, Qi Yue’s. No one could compete with him.

The nurse at the door knocked and entered, seeing the shattered phone on the ground, hesitated for a moment, then handed him his own phone, “Young Master, Mr. Qi asked you to take the call.”

Qi Yue didn’t bother to take it, he lay back on the bed, raised his chin slightly, motioning for the nurse to come closer.

The nurse walked to the bedside and pressed the speakerphone.

Qi Yue: “Dad, what’s up?”

Mr. Qi was furious, “You little bastard, what trouble have you caused again? The project that was a sure thing with the Qin family was suddenly taken over by a subsidiary of the Fu Corporation.”

“Why would I do anything to provoke the Fu Corporation?” Qi Yue said indifferently, “Go ask your illegitimate sons if they’ve done anything. Old geezer.”

Then he looked at the nurse, “Hang up the phone.”

The nurse trembled, slowly raised his finger, but didn’t dare to take any further action.

Mr. Qi heard that the phone wasn’t hung up, so he continued to scold, “Besides you, who else would do something so reckless? I should have broken your legs and locked you up at home.”

Qi Yue glared at the nurse fiercely, snatched the phone from him, and smashed it against the wall again.

It was hard to tell which one was more shattered, the phone that was already lying on the ground or the one he just smashed.

The nurse silently gave him the middle finger in his heart!
