Chapter 14
While stopping at the red light, the driver glanced at the message on his phone and said, “Miss, Shang Heng’s car is parked in front of the security room now. He was here last night too.”
Pei Yuning was a little speechless. What on earth was Shang Heng going to do?
Pei Yunzhi frowned slightly and asked what she meant: “If you don’t want to see him, I’ll let the security guards drive him away now. There’s no need to worry about the relationship between the two families.”
Pei Yuning: “Forget it, I’ll talk to him face to face later. If it keeps going on like this, it will be difficult for those security guards.”
“Okay.” Pei Yunzhi respected her decision.
When they arrived at the gate of Yuhua Mingyuan, Pei Yuning got out of the car. Pei Yunzhi lowered the window, sat in the car, and looked at her from a distance.
Shang Heng walked up to her: “Ningning.”
“Don’t call me that.” Pei Yuning said, “Shang Heng, I don’t understand you, really. You came here last night and tonight, what do you want to do?”
The suit Shang Heng was wearing was the one in the photo just now. He came to see her right after coaxing Xu Wei.
However, Pei Yuning didn’t intend to mention the photo at all, because she didn’t care who Shang Heng had in his heart, so it didn’t matter to her who he was willing to coax.
If she mentioned the photo, it would seem like she couldn’t let it go. There’s no need to force herself to act in an emotionless role. She’s not an actor.
Seeing Pei Yuning’s current attitude, Shang Heng suppressed his doubts about the male model in his heart, and temporarily endured it and coaxed her: “Ningning, I really drank too much that day. There won’t be a next time. I promise, I will never touch alcohol again, and I will never go to that kind of occasion again.”
Pei Yuning: “Does it matter whether it is true or not?”
Shang Heng lowered his proud head and lowered his posture: “Ningning, as long as you don’t cancel the engagement, I will agree to whatever you say. Give me another chance, okay?”
Pei Yuning: “Okay.”
Shang Heng was stunned, and happily took a step forward, wanting to hug her. He knew that Ningning had him in her heart.
Pei Yuning took a few steps back and said slowly: “As long as you chop off the ten fingers that have hugged Xu Wei, break the teeth that have touched Xu Wei, and pull out the tongue that has licked Xu Wei, I will promise you that I will not cancel the engagement.”
In an instant, it was as if a basin of cold water was poured over Shang Heng’s head, and the blood in his body was restrained and no longer circulated.
Pei Yuning glanced at him sarcastically and turned away.
Shang Heng came to his senses, grabbed her wrist, and said paranoidly: “Could the male model last night be cleaner than me? Ningning, in Jingbei, who else can you marry besides me? Whoever you marry, I will snatch his marriage away. I, Shang Heng, always keep my word.”
Pei Yunyi punched Shang Heng in the face, completely protected his sister behind him, and said sarcastically: “You can try and see if you are qualified.”
Shang Heng covered his face and fell backwards in embarrassment.
Pei Yunzhi has been learning boxing since he was a child, and he didn’t hold back at all when he threw that punch just now.
Pei Yunzhi took Pei Yuning’s hand and sat back in the car, and the driver drove the car into Yuhua Mingyuan.
There were five red marks on Pei Yuning’s wrist where Shang Heng had grabbed it. Her skin was fair and delicate, so if he had used a little more force, the marks left behind would have been particularly noticeable.
Pei Yunzhi frowned unhappily. He should have followed her closely.
“Brother, don’t tell grandpa and grandma about this. After all, the engagement will be cancelled tomorrow at noon.” Fortunately, the skirt she wore today had gauze sleeves, so Pei Yuning hid her wrists in them, and the marks would naturally fade away after a while.
Pei Yunzhi: “Don’t do it again. Don’t meet him alone in the future and stay away from him.”
Pei Yuning: “Got it.”
They entered the main house, washed their hands and had their meals. Today the whole family sat together neatly. The table was filled with dishes, and the kitchen had started preparing since noon.
The grandparents were sitting in the main seat, Pei Yuchen and his family of three were sitting on the left, and Pei Yuning and his family of three were sitting on the right.
Pei Yuning sat between her father and brother, with one on her left and one on her right, picking up food for her, serving her soup, peeling shrimps, and removing fish bones.
Pei Yuning enjoyed herself contentedly; without her naive stepmother around, the air in the main house felt much fresher.
My second uncle and second aunt just came back from celebrating their wedding anniversary abroad and brought back a lot of souvenirs. They asked Pei Yunzhi and Pei Yuning to go and see if they liked them.
The Pei family does not have the habit of not talking while eating or sleeping at the dinner table. It is better for the family to have a lively meal together.
After dinner, Pei Yuning took the necklace and hair accessories bought for her by her second aunt and went upstairs to match her clothes, skirt and bag.
Pei Yunzhi chatted with the two elders for a while, then took the watch given to him by his second uncle and went upstairs to the study.
The hour hand of the clock on the wall pointed to the Roman numeral nine, and someone knocked on the study door from outside.
Pei Jinyan: “Yunzhi, it’s me. Is it convenient?”
Pei Yunzhi said in a flat voice: “Come in.”
Pushing the door open, Pei Jinyan sat down on the sofa. Looking at his eldest son who was working meticulously and rigorously at the desk, the words he had prepared were instantly out of his mouth.
Pei Jinyan looked at him in despair. He didn’t expect that he was such a father figure in his eldest son’s heart. He slowly stood up and walked out of the study with a slightly staggering step.
Pei Yuchen, who just came up to serve strawberries but accidentally overheard half of the commotion, walked into the corner.
Ten minutes later, someone knocked and opened Pei Yunzhi’s study door.
“Brother, are you still busy?” Pei Yuchen put the strawberries on the table, his tone relaxed and natural, “Ningning said the strawberries are sweet, and she wanted to call you to come down and eat them. I’m annoyed by my grandma’s urging to get married, so I took the excuse of sending strawberries to hide from you.”
“Not busy.” Pei Yunzhi took a strawberry and ate it, “For the drama starring Chen Qingshu, you should find a good screenwriter in the industry to revise the script, and replace the shooting, post-editing, and special effects with a more professional team, and all the expenses should be charged to the group’s accounts. I know you are trying to vent your anger on Ningning, but it is not appropriate for her to settle for a second-tier script, not to mention that you are interested in her.”
Pei Yuchen agreed: “I know what’s going on. I’m looking for it. I don’t want to let her get angry, so I’ll definitely give her the best configuration.”
Pei Yunzhi: “Yes.”
