Chapter 39: The protagonist’s personal grandfather
The Han family resided in the southeast corner of Yunzhong City, with a mountain forest directly behind their home.
A hill stood where the two met, a place rarely visited by people.
Since losing his soul power years ago, Han Yue had been subjected to scorn and ridicule. He often sought solace in training on the hill. Besides him, only Nan rongxue had ever set foot there.
Today, Han Yue brought Nan Xiyan to the hill.
“These past years, everyone has bullied and insulted me. Every time I was beaten and scolded, I would come here to train, but unfortunately…”
Nan Xiyan interrupted Han Yue’s words, carefully saying, “Brother Han Yue.”
Han Yue looked at Nan Xiyan, “Xiyan, what did you just call me?”
“Didn’t I used to call you that when I was young? If you don’t like it, I’ll…”
“I like it.”
“While I was at the Lingxiao Sect, I read some ancient texts. May I examine your physical condition?”
Though not holding out much hope, Han Yue still said, “Xiyan, you may look if you wish.”
Nan Xiyan channeled her soul power to cover Han Yue, examining him meticulously. However, she discovered that Han Yue had no trace of soul power within him. Even his former sixth-grade soul bone was dull and lifeless, seemingly just a plain bone.
Could the Saintess have been wrong?
Wait, no. A shock flashed in Nan Xiyan’s eyes.
His yang energy was restrained, converging in his dantian, transforming energy with energy… a congenital extreme yang spirit body! A top grade cauldron physique!
Though the physique hadn’t fully awakened, her knowledge from the Lingxiao Sect was not in vain. She couldn’t be mistaken.
She just didn’t know what grade it was. It seemed she had to take Han Yue back with her.
“Xiyan?”
Nan Xiyan withdrew her hand, apologetically saying, “Brother Han Yue, my knowledge is limited.”
Han Yue waved it off, unconcerned, but his eyes held a deep sorrow. A once-prodigy, now reduced to a cripple. The bitterness in his heart was beyond the understanding of others.
“It’s alright, I’m used to it.”
Seeing this, Nan Xiyan comforted him, “You protected me when we were young. Now it’s my turn to protect you. It’s fair. Besides, I believe in you.”
Then, before Han Yue could recover, she stealthily moved closer and lightly pecked his left cheek.
Han Yue reacted by taking a step back. “Xi… Xiyan, you”
“I want to tell you, you, Han Yue, whether you’re the genius you were before or the unfortunate one you are now, I’ve chosen you. You can only be mine.”
Han Yue was stunned by Nan Xiyan’s words. Was there someone who valued him so much? In these years of being a cripple, he had tasted the bitterness of human nature. This was the first time he had been chosen so resolutely.
By the time he regained his senses, Nan Xiyan was already gone without a trace.
“Xiyan…” Han Yue touched his cheek, unconsciously revealing a smile.
“Host, it’s so unethical to eavesdrop on other people’s romance.”
Nan Xian, who had been standing not far from the two using a concealment talisman, said, “Aren’t you watching too?”
“This system is upright and honest. It’s a villain, not a bad person.”
“Then how do you know they’re in love?”
She wasn’t the only one eavesdropping. Nan Xian glanced at the swaying treetops in the distance. It seemed someone was getting restless.
Moreover, she wasn’t watching their “tender affection.” When Nan Xiyan kissed Han Yue, the hand hidden under her sleeve was clenched so tightly that it turned white.
It was truly difficult for her. She could still kiss Han Yue despite his sweat and dirt. She must have truly held back before she went to bathe.
Han Yue on the hill also snapped out of his romantic reverie and punched the hill with a fist.
“Am I, Han Yue, destined to be a useless nobody, living under the wings of others?”
“Why? Why did heaven give me talent but deny me the ability to cultivate?”
After venting his frustration, he slumped back onto the hill, dejected. He took out a jade box from his storage pouch.
“Xiyan, I, Han Yue, will never forget your kindness. I will not let you down.”
With those words, he took out a pill and swallowed it.
Han Yue was now just an ordinary person. As the fifth-grade pill went down, his body instantly turned red, and even from afar, you could see steam rising from him.
“Ah!”
Though painful, the long-lost soul power brought a smile to Han Yue’s face. But it was fleeting. The surging soul power within him vanished in an instant.
This time, however, because the massive amount of soul power almost took form, he noticed something.
He realized that the soul power hadn’t disappeared. It had all surged into the area of his chest.
Han Yue seemed to have an idea. He roughly ripped open his chest garment, and sure enough, he saw the wooden bead he had worn since childhood emitting a faint glow.
The pent-up resentment and anger he had carried for so long seemed to have found an outlet. Han Yue ripped the bead off his neck, clutching it tightly in his hand, wanting to crush it.
“My life, you ruined it!”
Han Yue threw the bead with all his might. It flew in a graceful arc and landed steadily at Nan Xian’s feet.
Simultaneously, the bead emitted a faint glow again, floating into the air. An old voice echoed out:
“Young man, you just borrowed a bit of soul power. Is there a need to be so violent?”
Han Yue looked around, finally fixing his gaze on the bead floating in the air.
“It’s you! Come out!”
A translucent soul body floated out of the bead. It yawned lazily.
“Finally got a good meal. Young man, where’s your little girlfriend? Ask her if she has any more fifth-grade pills?”
Han Yue was furious:
“It’s all your fault! You made me endure years of humiliation for no reason, Lady’sing the prime time for cultivation. How dare you ask for pills! Do you know what kind of life I’ve lived all these years?”
“Die!”
Han Yue punched towards the soul body. The soul body easily dodged behind him and pressed a finger against Han Yue, restraining him.
“Young man, don’t be so rash.”
“It’s just a little bit of soul power and a tiny bit of resources, right?”
“Fifth-grade pills, I wouldn’t even look at them back in the day.”
Han Yue struggled to get up, but his body wouldn’t budge.
“What are you trying to do?”
The soul body floated in front of Han Yue, propping his head with one hand. “In appreciation for you waking me up early, I’ll give you a chance. Become my disciple.”
“You’re dreaming!” Han Yue gritted his teeth.
The soul body said calmly, “In the ancient times, I was known as the Medicine Sage, respected by all! If you become my disciple, I can guide you in cultivating and alchemy. Within two years, you can recover the soul power you lost. Think about it, young man.”
Han Yue didn’t know what Medicine Sage meant, but he was indeed tempted. Both in Yunzhong City and the Tianwu Continent, alchemists were extremely rare.
Moreover, he was desperate to improve his cultivation quickly. He wanted to give Xiyan a surprise at the wedding in three months, to show everyone that she hadn’t made a mistake in choosing him.
“Alright! I’ll be your disciple.”
The soul body withdrew its restraint and nodded. “That’s right.”
Nan Xian stood aside, witnessing this scene. She marveled at the effectiveness of the concealment talisman while also becoming interested in the soul body inside the bead.
Medicine Sage. Only alchemists who could refine ninth-grade pills could be called ‘Sage.’ Such a powerful cheat was only worth 500,000 villain points.
However, whether it was Han Yue or the soul body, a free alchemist was a gift. She would find a way to make both master and disciple work for her Nan family.
