Ruan Lan laid out an array of beautiful clothes and dazzling jewelry before Ming Yu, carefully introducing each piece and explaining how they matched her temperament.
However, Ming Yu only responded absentmindedly, appearing somewhat perfunctory.
Ruan Lan glanced at her indifferently. “What? You don’t like them?”
Before Ming Yu could reply, Ruan Lan placed a stunningly radiant necklace in her hands.
“Look how beautiful it is. It will definitely look good on you.”
“Thank you, Master…” Ming Yu took the necklace.
At that moment, a sudden ringtone shattered the slightly stifling atmosphere in the room.
Seeing the caller ID—her informant inside the Yin family—Ruan Lan quickly picked up the phone.
“What did you say?” Ruan Lan’s voice rose in disbelief. “Yin Yixuan was sent to the emergency room?”
Ming Yu, who had remained expressionless, instantly turned as pale as a sheet upon hearing the news.
The dazzling necklace in her trembling hands slipped and fell to the ground, scattering with a crisp sound. The pearls that once shimmered with brilliance now lay quietly on the cold floor, their luster seemingly lost.
Ruan Lan raised her eyes and shot a meaningful glance at Ming Yu, who was visibly panicked. A faint, triumphant smile flashed in her eyes.
After hanging up, she feigned concern as she looked at Ming Yu. “Yu’er, what’s wrong?”
“Could it be… you’ve already drugged Yin Yixuan?”
Ruan Lan fixed her gaze on Ming Yu, a trace of cunning and satisfaction in her eyes.
Ming Yu opened her mouth, wanting to deny it, but in the end, she swallowed her words.
Her expression turned pained, as if she had suddenly recalled something. After a long silence, she slowly nodded.
Seeing this, Ruan Lan’s smile widened.
She walked over and embraced Ming Yu warmly, whispering in her ear, “Well done… Well done, Ming Yu. I knew you wouldn’t disappoint me.”
Ming Yu pressed her lips together, remaining silent.
Ruan Lan, however, looked more pleased than ever.
She said, “When Yin Haoting went through IVF, I made some minor adjustments.”
Ming Yu looked at Ruan Lan in shock.
So that was why Yin Yixuan had been weak and sickly since childhood?
“Now, Yin Yixuan’s life is in my hands. I don’t believe Yin Haoting can just stand by and watch his son die.”
“Hahaha… Hahahaha… Hahahaha…”
Ruan Lan laughed, her expression sinister and wild.
Several hours had passed since Yin Yixuan’s surgery.
He was transferred to the ICU and had yet to regain consciousness.
At that moment, Yin Hanyu received a text message.
Reading the contents, he frowned.
Meanwhile, Lin Qingyou was pestering Elder Yin with a question. “Grandpa, why is Yin Yixuan a test-tube baby? Was it because his parents had health issues?”
Elder Yin glared at her. “Nonsense! You’re the one with health issues—your whole family is!”
Lin Qingyou pouted. “Well, my family includes Yin Hanyu now. Technically, it also includes the Yin family.”
Elder Yin: “…”
“Why do you think?” Elder Yin turned to Yin Hanyu. “I told you before, your father loved your mother deeply. He refused to be with another woman.”
“But the Yin family couldn’t afford to have no heir.”
“You have two other sons, don’t you?” Lin Qingyou asked.
“That scoundrel Yin Haoyang secretly had a vasectomy without telling us.”
“Huh…” Lin Qingyou’s eyes widened like saucers. “Then how did Yin Yichen come about?”
Elder Yin sighed. “A scientific loophole—a lucky escapee.”
Lin Qingyou’s mouth twitched. “…”
Well, vasectomies aren’t always 100% effective.
“And as for Lan Si…” Elder Yin looked helpless. “He’s still an old bachelor. Can I count on him?”
Lin Qingyou nearly choked. “…”
Damn, did he just call the president an old bachelor?!
But seriously, why was the president still single?
Yin Hanyu pondered for a moment before turning to Elder Yin. “Immediately hold a press conference announcing that Yin Yixuan is gravely ill and can no longer manage the company. Then, appoint me as the highest decision-maker of the Yin Group.”
“What???”
Elder Yin was utterly shocked!
Realizing what Yin Hanyu had just said, he grabbed his cane, ready to strike him. “You ungrateful brat! Your brother is still lying in the ICU, and you’re already thinking about power? Are you even human?”
Lin Qingyou quickly stopped him. “You are not allowed to hit my husband!”
Elder Yin glared. “Step aside, or I’ll hit you too!”
Yin Hanyu shot back a sharp look. “Try laying a finger on her.”
“…You…”
Elder Yin was fuming. “You two—!”
Lin Qingyou took his cane and helped him sit down. “Grandpa, why are you so worked up? Didn’t you always want Yin Hanyu to take over the Yin family?”
Back when Elder Yin opposed their relationship, she had tried to negotiate, promising that she wouldn’t drag Yin Hanyu down. She even asked for time to prove herself, claiming that she could build a successful career.
After all, she was reborn and knew what industries would boom in the future.
As long as she made the right investments early, she was guaranteed to make a fortune.
But Elder Yin clearly hadn’t believed her.
He had said, “Even if I gave you a thousand years, you wouldn’t make as much money as the Yin family.”
Still, he agreed to her terms.
The condition? She had to convince Yin Hanyu to return to the Yin family and help manage it.
Elder Yin shot a sharp look at Yin Hanyu. “Yes, I wanted him to come back—but I wanted him to work alongside his brother, not fight him for power like enemies!”
Lin Qingyou snorted. “Relax. My husband isn’t interested in fighting.”
Yin Hanyu must have had a reason for saying that. Even though she didn’t know what it was, she trusted him completely.
Elder Yin sighed. “Hanyu, both you and Yixuan are exceptional. You are both my grandsons. Each of you has your own strengths, and I want you to work together to strengthen the Yin family, not fight each other for control.”
“That would be unfair to both Yixuan and Yichen.”
That said, Elder Yin usually ignored Yin Yichen.
After all, his dream was to be a carefree rich kid—he’d be happier with good food than with a corporate project.
Elder Yin looked toward the ICU where Yin Yixuan lay unconscious. “You’ve suffered so much over the years… That is our fault, for not protecting you.”
“But your brother has not lived a life of luxury without hardship. Since childhood, we made him study endlessly, pushing him to become a worthy heir of the Yin family…”
