“Yin Haoting, are you afraid to do it?”
Pei Mingzhu approached, her gaze filled with mockery as she looked at Yin Hanyu and Yin Haoting. “Why are you making such grandiose statements?”
She continued, “I’m just a woman, and even though I knew it would be a huge humiliation, I still did it. You, a grown man—what are you afraid of?”
Before Yin Haoting could respond, Pei Mingzhu smirked. “Let me tell you exactly what you’re afraid of.”
“Yin Haoting, the person who entered your hotel room that night wasn’t Bai Ci—it was me.”
“Otherwise, do you really think Bai Ci would have left you so decisively, with no hesitation or lingering attachment?”
At those words, a surge of uncontrollable rage erupted within Yin Haoting.
His fists clenched tightly, knuckles turning white from the immense pressure. Every muscle in his body tensed like solid steel, as if he were on the verge of an explosion.
His deep, dark eyes churned like a raging storm, a violent tempest brewing in their depths, ready to burst forth at any moment.
Yet, Pei Mingzhu continued, unfazed. “Did it never occur to you that there might be a reason for all of this?”
Suddenly, she leaned in close and whispered in his ear, “That night, I threw Bai Ci to a beggar on the street.”
“Oh, and by the way, she was drugged—with that kind of drug…”
“Pei Mingzhu, you’re asking for death!”
“So, Yin Haoting, Yifeng is actually your biological son. Yin Hanyu? He’s nothing more than a filthy bastard—some beggar’s lowly spawn…”
Pei Mingzhu showed no restraint as she spat out these venomous words. Every syllable was like a dagger stabbing directly into Yin Haoting’s heart.
“Shut up, Pei Mingzhu!”
Yin Haoting finally snapped.
Like an enraged lion, he lunged forward and seized Pei Mingzhu by the throat.
His arm muscles bulged with fury, veins popping as his grip tightened around her slender neck. His fingers dug deep into her flesh, fueled by unrelenting wrath.
“If you’re so desperate to die, then fine—I’ll grant your wish today,” Yin Haoting growled, his eyes blazing with murderous intent.
Before she could react, his grip tightened further.
As his strength increased, Pei Mingzhu’s once rosy complexion turned deathly pale. Her breath grew ragged and weak.
She struggled, her mouth opening wide in a desperate attempt to take in more air, but all she managed was a faint, choking gasp.
Her feet lifted off the ground, her body suspended in the air as Yin Haoting hoisted her up with raw power.
She could no longer breathe. The suffocation was unbearable.
Her eyes bulged, nearly popping from their sockets, her face contorted in agony and terror—grotesque, horrifying.
Just as it seemed that Yin Haoting would strangle her to death, Old Master Yin, who had been silently observing from the side, finally intervened.
He strode over, shoving Yin Haoting forcefully while shouting, “You unfilial son! What do you think you’re doing?! Are you really going to commit murder in front of all these elders?!”
Yin Haoting turned to glare at the old man, while Leng Yifeng rushed forward to pull his mother away.
“Father, let me say this one more time. My wife is Bai Ci, and Bai Ci alone.”
“I have nothing to do with Pei Mingzhu or her son.”
He then looked directly at Yin Hanyu. “He is my son. Bai Ci’s and mine.”
“The position of Yin family’s highest decision-maker—if it goes to him, I have no objections. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here today.”
“But if Yin Hanyu is not a true Yin, I will never allow you to hand that position to him.”
“So—this so-called DNA paternity test? There’s no need for it.”
“I won’t allow anyone to humiliate Bai Ci like that.” His gaze bore into Old Master Yin. “Not even you.”
The meaning was clear.
Yin Haoting would not permit a DNA test to determine his and Yin Hanyu’s relationship.
“This farce ends here.” He turned to the crowd. “If anyone dares to spread a single word about today’s events—
They. Die.”
With that final statement, Yin Haoting stormed out.
It seemed like the spectacle was over.
But in truth, it had only just begun.
Though Old Master Yin had an old-fashioned and authoritarian mindset, he actually respected his children’s decisions.
So, he really wasn’t planning on conducting the DNA test.
But Yin Hanyu?
“Do it. We must.”
Yin Hanyu yanked out a strand of his own hair. “Hurry up and get it tested.”
Old Master Yin shot him a glare. “You brat! What are you implying? Didn’t your father make himself clear?”
“That’s exactly the problem,” Yin Hanyu replied. “He’s too certain that he has no connection to Pei Mingzhu and Leng Yifeng.”
Lin Qingyou frowned. “Then why is Pei Mingzhu so confident?” She looked at the strands of hair in Old Master Yin’s hands. “She handed over Leng Yifeng’s hair without hesitation—she must be absolutely sure.”
As a woman herself, Lin Qingyou understood what Pei Mingzhu was staking on this claim—her honor, her reputation.
Pei Mingzhu was a proud woman. If she weren’t certain, she wouldn’t have insisted that Leng Yifeng was Yin Haoting’s son.
“Exactly,” Old Master Yin agreed.
Yet, his son had flatly denied it.
He sighed, staring at the strands of hair, truly torn.
“You don’t have to hesitate.” Yin Hanyu spoke firmly. “Just do the test.”
“But…” Old Master Yin hesitated.
“No buts. Whether I’m a Yin or not doesn’t matter to me. I don’t care about the Yin family’s fortune.”
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Old Master Yin scowled. “You’re my grandson, always have been.”
“That reminds me…” Yin Hanyu suddenly turned to him. “Why didn’t you test my DNA when I first returned home? You’re not someone who would be this careless.”
“Why do you think?” Old Master Yin scoffed. “Because my eyes are the perfect measure.”
Yin Hanyu: “…”
Lin Qingyou: “…”
Even now, the old man was cracking jokes?
Yin Hanyu smirked. “So your eyes are DNA tests now?”
Old Master Yin shot him an irritated glare.
“Laugh all you want. It’s about intuition.”
“I’ve met all kinds of people in my lifetime. The moment I saw you, I just knew—you felt like one of us.”
But Leng Yifeng? He never gave him that same feeling.
“Intuition, boy. You get it?” Old Master Yin repeated. “The moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were a Yin.”
Yin Hanyu: “…”
Lin Qingyou twitched. “…”
That’s… kind of reckless?
“Forget intuition.” Yin Hanyu carefully separated the strands of hair, labeling them clearly.
“Find someone trustworthy. Make sure the test is conducted under strict supervision. And most importantly, keep it hidden from Yin Haoting.”
“The truth we seek will soon be revealed.”
Deep down, Yin Hanyu already had a suspicion…
One he didn’t want to accept.
And suddenly, he understood why his mother had acted the way she did.
