Chapter 10 : Oh my goodness, who is this aunt?
The alley was in a remote location, and there were usually not many people around, so she couldn’t expect anyone to come to her rescue.
Unexpectedly, at that moment, a small, fair hand grabbed her arm.
“Auntie, are you okay?”
The voice was pleasant, clear and crisp.
To Shen Xiu’e, it sounded like heavenly music.
But before she could lift her head, she heard a girl nearby angrily scolding,
“Song Shiwei, why are you everywhere? I’m telling you, this woman is trying to blackmail me! Don’t make trouble for me, get lost!”
Song Shiwei?
These three words instantly echoed in Shen Xiu’e’s mind. When she looked up, she saw a delicate and pretty face big eyes, a high nose bridge, and fair skin.
At that moment, the girl was looking at her with concern.
“Auntie, can you try to stand up? Did you sprain your waist?”
Seeing that she was ignoring her, Song Yingying tried to pull Song Shiwei’s arm, but unfortunately for her, Song Shiwei was on guard and pushed her aside.
“Song Yingying, I think you’re the one with a problem. You hit someone, yet you act so self-righteous. Who gave you such a big ego? If this auntie is really injured, once her family comes, you won’t just have to pay compensation, you might also be called in by the police for questioning! When that happens… hmph, I wonder how you’ll keep up this arrogant act!”
Song Yingying had originally thought that Shen Xiu’e was just pretending in an attempt to blackmail her. But now, seeing her pale face and beads of sweat rolling down her forehead, she realized the woman wasn’t faking it at all, and she immediately panicked.
She picked up her bicycle, intending to run away, but how could Song Shiwei let her off so easily?
Anyone with a clear eye could see that the woman was too injured to even walk. If she ran off now, wouldn’t that be considered a hit-and-run?
She grabbed the front of the bicycle.
Song Yingying was furious.
“Song Shiwei, what are you doing? Let go!”
As she spoke, she kept looking around anxiously, worried that the woman’s family might actually show up.
But Song Shiwei held on tightly and refused to let go.
“Song Yingying, if you want to leave, pay up first!”
Song Yingying’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“Song Shiwei, are you crazy? Why should I pay? I don’t have any money!”
Song Shiwei didn’t believe her. Aside from her temporary salary, which was over ten yuan a month, just looking at how much Feng Chunmei and Old Lady Song spoiled her at home, there was no way she lacked pocket money!
“If you don’t want to pay, then wait for her family to come!”
Song Yingying started to panic.
“I… I… Why should I be the one paying? It wasn’t entirely my fault! She wasn’t looking at the road either! The blame isn’t all on me, right?”
Shen Xiu’e had no intention of blackmailing her.
She weakly raised her hand.
“Young lady, she’s right. I do share some responsibility…”
But Song Shiwei wasn’t about to let her off so easily!
Not only was Song Yingying bossy at home, but she acted the same way outside. Now, she was even trying to flee after hitting someone, how could that be allowed?
“Then you should take your share of the responsibility. Judging by the auntie’s condition, she needs to go to the hospital. You should cover half of the cost!”
“I…”
Song Yingying was furious, but she didn’t know how to argue back.
She was only angry that Song Shiwei was being so tactless! Weren’t they supposed to be family? Yet he was siding with an outsider?
Hmph!
Thinking of this, she became even more determined to steal Song Shiwei’s boyfriend!
She refused to let Song Shiwei continue to overshadow her in the future!
Just the mere thought of it made her feel uncomfortable.
“How am I supposed to know how much her medical bills will be? How can I just pay half?”
Song Shiwei thought for a moment and said,
“Auntie can’t walk right now anyway. Why don’t you take her on your bike and go with her to see the doctor?”
Song Yingying wasn’t having it.
“If you want to go, you go! I’m not going!”
As she spoke, she pulled two yuan out of her shirt pocket and threw it at Song Shiwei.
“You took this job out of kindness, so take her with you!”
Song Shiwei looked at the two dollars in her hand and sneered.
“Do you think seeing a doctor is like buying cabbages at the vegetable market? How can two dollars be enough? They’ll prescribe medicine too, right? Have you paid for that as well?”
Seeing someone approaching the entrance of the alley, Song Yingying didn’t bother arguing any further. She hastily pulled out another dollar, threw it over, and ran away.
“This is all I have on me, no more!”
Watching her flee, Song Shiwei curled her lips slightly.
Coward.
When she turned back, she met Shen Xiu’e’s slightly excited gaze.
Despite her concern, she stepped forward and carefully helped the woman up.
“Auntie, how are you? Can you still walk?”
Seeing that Shen Xiu’e was struggling to stand, she quickly picked up the bicycle and helped her onto the back seat.
“Auntie, I’ll take you to the hospital!”
Along the way, Shen Xiu’e looked at the thin yet surprisingly strong figure in front of her, and her heart couldn’t help but feel warm.
So, she really is the girl my son talked about!
That morning, she had been waiting at the entrance of Song Shiwei’s house.
In truth, she wasn’t entirely sure if the person coming out would be Song Shiwei. She had only followed her son’s description and guessed based on age.
She wanted to secretly observe what kind of person this girl was. After all, her son had already suffered setbacks in marriage, what if this girl turned out to be unreliable? She was afraid he wouldn’t be able to handle another heartbreak!
Now, she felt reassured.
This girl was a good one!
Especially when they arrived at the hospital, watching Song Shiwei running around, taking care of everything, made her deeply touched.
During this time, she borrowed the hospital’s phone and called home.
Zhou Runde was in a meeting, so his secretary answered. When Zhou Runde found out afterward, he immediately panicked.
He quickly ordered his driver to prepare the car and rushed to the hospital.
At the hospital, Shen Xiu’e had already received treatment. It turned out that she had only sprained her waist and needed to apply a medicinal plaster and take some medication.
The plaster needed to be worn for seven days, and the total cost was four dollars and fifty cents.
Song Yingying had only given three dollars, so Song Shiwei paid the remaining one and a half dollars.
Shen Xiu’e insisted on reimbursing her no matter what, but Song Shiwei refused.
Looking at the auntie’s faded blue pants worn so much they had turned white, she figured her financial situation probably wasn’t great.
Not only was she injured because of Song Yingying, but now she couldn’t work for a few days either. Who knew how hard things would be for her?
Even though Song Shiwei didn’t have much money herself, she had saved a little.
While waiting for news from Zhou Tingyue these past days, she hadn’t just sat around. Thankfully, in her previous life, she had been a food blogger and had mastered all sorts of cooking-related skills.
She had biked to the mountains outside the city, dug up a sack of sugar beets, secretly made some brown sugar, and sold it on the black market for over ten dollars.
Wasn’t she about to get married? She certainly didn’t expect Old Lady Song to prepare any dowry for her or even give her any money!
Her parents’ wages were all handed over to the family, and trying to get money from Old Lady Song was harder than reaching the heavens.
So, she had to make her own plans.
The place she was going to wasn’t close. The island where the East China Sea military forces were stationed was called Qilian Island, located in the northeast of the country.
She had heard that the people there were quite poor.
She had to bring some money with her, or she’d feel insecure!
“Auntie, please don’t argue with me! Where do you live? I’ll take you home!”
Just as she finished speaking, a car suddenly stopped at the hospital entrance.
A middle-aged man wearing black-framed glasses stepped out from the back seat.
Seeing Shen Xiu’e, he rushed over anxiously.
“What happened to you? How did you fall and hurt your waist?”
Standing nearby, Shen Xiu’e was so excited to see him that she eagerly recounted everything. It was as if spraining her waist had turned into something worth celebrating.
Of course, the highlight of her story was Song Shiwei.
However, Song Shiwei’s eyes unconsciously drifted toward the car parked at the entrance…
Oh my god. Who exactly is this auntie?
She doesn’t seem like someone who’s short on money!
