Ji Mo Sheng found an excuse and hung up the phone.
Lin Qingyou stared at the disconnected call, eyes widening in surprise.
This was the first time her master had ever hung up on her so ruthlessly.
What was he hiding? What was he feeling guilty about?
Yin Hanyu patted her small head. “Alright, don’t overthink it. You should rest now. Even if you don’t need the rest, the baby does.”
Suddenly, Ming Yu pushed the door open and entered.
“Youyou, I heard you’re pregnant?”
“Mhm.” Lin Qingyou touched her stomach. “My uncle said it’s been a little over a month. I was so careless—I didn’t even notice.”
So many things had happened recently that she thought her delayed period was normal.
She never expected that she was actually carrying a baby.
Looking down at her still-flat stomach, Lin Qingyou found it incredible.
She was going to have a baby!
“It’s only been a month, so it’s normal not to notice,” Ming Yu said, pulling Lin Qingyou down to sit beside her. “But from now on, you have to be careful.”
“I will.”
“Can I touch it?” Ming Yu looked at Lin Qingyou’s stomach with excitement.
“Of course!” Lin Qingyou grabbed Ming Yu’s hand and placed it on her belly. Then she asked, “Do you like kids?”
“They’re okay…” Ming Yu said hesitantly, but her eyes sparkled with excitement.
That was already the most direct way she could express her fondness.
Standing nearby, Yin Yixuan’s expression turned complicated, his gaze deep and unreadable.
Lin Qingyou was surprised that Ming Yu liked children. “Ming Yu, I thought you preferred living alone and wouldn’t like kids.”
Yin Hanyu chuckled. “If she didn’t like kids, how did she end up getting stabbed by one at Angel Kindergarten?”
Ming Yu didn’t deny it.
Yes, if that person hadn’t been a child, she would have been more guarded.
With her guard up, she wouldn’t have been hurt.
She liked children, so she didn’t put up her defenses against them, and that was why she had been injured so badly.
But that child wasn’t just any ordinary child.
Ming Yu had grown up training alongside other orphans—children with no family, no parents.
When they were young, they huddled together for warmth, comforting and encouraging each other as fellow unfortunate souls.
But when they grew up, everything changed…
Ming Yu was never good at socializing or scheming. She even feared dealing with people because adults’ words were often layered with hidden meanings.
Interacting with adults was too complicated for her.
But children were different.
When kids were uncomfortable, they cried. When they were happy, they laughed. Their emotions were simple, pure, and direct.
And they were soft, cuddly, and smelled like milk. Just looking at them made her happy.
Unfortunately, she would never have the chance to be a mother herself…
Ming Yu carefully touched Lin Qingyou’s belly again.
Seeing how much she genuinely liked children, Lin Qingyou suddenly grabbed her hand and said excitedly, “Ming Yu, why don’t you be my baby’s godmother?”
“Godmother?” Ming Yu’s eyes lit up, but she hesitated. “Can I?”
“Of course!” Lin Qingyou assured her.
Ming Yu frowned. “But we didn’t get the baby’s approval. What if they don’t like me?”
“Pfft…” Lin Qingyou burst into laughter and took the chance to pinch Ming Yu’s pretty face. “My child will have such a beautiful and capable godmother. They’ll feel proud just walking outside! How could they not like you?”
“Besides, I’m their mom. If I like you, they’ll like you even more.”
“Alright then…” Ming Yu said solemnly. “I’ll take care of you during your pregnancy and make sure you and the baby are healthy and chubby.”
“Chubby…” Lin Qingyou laughed, feeling warm inside, and leaned into Ming Yu’s embrace.
The bond between the two women resulted in Yin Hanyu being kicked out of the room. Tonight, Ming Yu would be sleeping beside Lin Qingyou.
Yin Hanyu gritted his teeth and was about to protest when Ming Yu brought up pregnancy precautions.
“In early pregnancy, couples should sleep separately—it’s a basic rule. If you don’t believe me, look it up yourself.”
Yin Hanyu: “…”
—
Yin Hanyu was speechless.
But seeing Lin Qingyou so happy, he let her have her way.
Gently closing the door, he resigned himself and walked toward the room across the hall.
Just as he was about to enter, he noticed a lone figure standing on the distant balcony.
Yin Hanyu took a few steps forward.
Under the moonlight, that silhouette was illuminated, revealing Yin Yixuan.
Yin Hanyu frowned. He had sensed something was off about Yin Yixuan’s mood earlier.
After a brief hesitation, he walked toward him.
Yin Yixuan’s tall figure stood bathed in the cold moonlight, making him look striking yet impossibly lonely, as if he were blending into the night itself.
Yin Hanyu patted him on the shoulder. “Why are you standing here all alone, acting all melancholic?”
Hearing his voice, Yin Yixuan turned slightly, replying in annoyance, “Melancholic? Please, it’s freezing winter right now.”
Yin Hanyu snorted. “Don’t play dumb with me. You know what I mean.”
Yin Yixuan remained silent.
“If you don’t want to talk, forget it.” Yin Hanyu turned to leave.
But suddenly, Yin Yixuan spoke.
“In the past, when I thought Ming Yu liked you, I was jealous of you.”
“Today, I felt that jealousy again…”
Yin Hanyu was stunned before responding, a little exasperated. “You don’t still think Ming Yu likes me, do you?”
Yin Yixuan shook his head, his voice full of emotion. “You got to marry the woman you love. And she loves you just as much.”
“You love each other, and now you even have a child together.” He looked off into the distance. “To me, that’s an impossible dream.”
“A dream?” Yin Hanyu didn’t hide his happiness. “Not gonna lie, it used to feel like an impossible dream to me too.”
Something so wonderful, he wouldn’t have dared to even dream of it before.
“But now…” Yin Hanyu’s gaze softened. “It came true.”
“So…” He patted Yin Yixuan’s shoulder. “Anything is possible. Your dream can come true too.”
However, Yin Yixuan only smiled bitterly and shook his head, his tone filled with helplessness. “No, it won’t.”
“My dream will never come true…”
Yin Hanyu frowned. “Since when did you become so pessimistic?”
“It’s not pessimism,” Yin Yixuan murmured. “I don’t even know if Ming Yu likes me or not.”
Yin Hanyu grew frustrated. “If she didn’t like you, would she have given up her mission to kill you? Do you know how much she suffered because of that failure?”
“If she didn’t like you, would she have disobeyed and betrayed her master for you?”
The more Yin Hanyu spoke, the more he felt like punching him.
“Then why does she always reject me?”
Yin Yixuan opened his hand, revealing a delicate diamond ring. “Today, she was really happy seeing all the rare herbs and flowers at the Xiao family estate, so I took the opportunity to confess again.”
“But she rejected me… again.”
