As soon as Lin Qingyou and Lin Zhiwei stepped onto the deck, Lin Zhiwei’s subordinate, Chen Jiang, came to escort them to the top-floor room of the cruise ship.
“Boss, this is your room,” Chen Jiang respectfully handed Lin Zhiwei a key card.
Lin Zhiwei took it and asked, “Have you taken care of everything I asked you to? Once we get there, I promise you a life of wealth and prosperity.”
“Rest assured, boss. Everything has been handled properly.”
“Good work…” Lin Zhiwei patted Chen Jiang’s shoulder.
“It’s no trouble at all,” Chen Jiang said gratefully. “I have you to thank, boss. Without your trust and support, I’d still be hauling bricks on a construction site.”
Trust him?
Lin Zhiwei sneered inwardly.
In reality, he had no choice.
If he hadn’t transferred all his assets to Chen Jiang in advance, he would be left with nothing right now.
Fortunately, Pei Jue was dead, and he had made all the necessary preparations.
No—actually, he had long planned to kill Pei Jue.
After years of amassing wealth, most of his money had been funneled into Pei Jue and Pei Mingzhu’s experiments and research.
They talked about collaboration and called him their “brother” when they needed him, but in truth, they treated him like a dog.
So, he had slowly guided Yin Hanyu and the others to discover Pei Mingzhu.
Sure enough, Pei Mingzhu was caught.
After that, he expected Pei Jue to panic. After all, when people get desperate, they make mistakes and lose their composure.
He had intended to use others to do the killing for him, letting Yin Hanyu’s group capture and eliminate Pei Jue.
After all, the person Yin Hanyu and the others hated most was undoubtedly Pei Jue.
But to his surprise, Pei Jue was even colder and more ruthless than he had imagined.
Pei Mingzhu was his only remaining relative, yet he refused to rescue her.
Not only did he not save her, but he even seemed pleased that she had been caught.
Because, as he put it, he had long been fed up with Pei Mingzhu.
Their research philosophies were at odds.
Over the years, Pei Mingzhu had become obsessed—every experiment, every study was focused on her face. She wanted eternal youth, an unaging appearance.
So she constantly used children as test subjects.
All her experiments revolved around preserving her beauty.
Meanwhile, Pei Jue’s goal was to push human potential to its limits and create weapons stronger than Shang.
Pei Jue also realized that Lin Zhiwei had betrayed Pei Mingzhu.
So he summoned Lin Zhiwei to the Sunshine Resort. His true intention was to intimidate and threaten him, keeping him under his control.
“Lin Zhiwei, don’t think I don’t know that you had a hand in Mingzhu and Shang’s capture,” Pei Jue said.
“I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” Lin Zhiwei replied. “We’re in this together. What would I gain from harming Pei Mingzhu?”
“Oh, there’s definitely something to gain,” Pei Jue said, stepping closer. “You want to overthrow me and take my place.”
“Lin Zhiwei, don’t bother denying it! I know you better than you think… Otherwise, I wouldn’t have chosen you in the first place.”
“I helped you rise to power. And I must admit, your performance over the years has not disappointed me.”
“That’s why I’ve overlooked your little ambitions… After all, people without ambition are nothing more than waste.”
“In fact, I find your ambition rather interesting.”
“But…” Pei Jue’s gaze locked onto Lin Zhiwei. “You need to understand your place!”
“I can lift you to the top, but I can just as easily drag you down to hell.”
“A dog is still just a dog. No matter how outstanding it is, at the end of the day, it remains a dog.”
“Don’t you agree?” Pei Jue’s lips curled into a taunting smirk as he stared at Lin Zhiwei with utter disdain.
Lin Zhiwei met his gaze with burning intensity but said nothing.
Pei Jue’s smirk deepened. He sneered, “Dogs… will never have the right to become masters.”
“Oh… is that so?”
Lin Zhiwei’s expression was blank as he shot a cold, piercing look at Pei Jue.
“Do you disagree?” Pei Jue asked. “If you have a different opinion, I’d love to hear it.”
“Or perhaps we should have a debate—about how to be a proper dog?”
“Lin Zhiwei, if you don’t behave like a good dog, you’ll lose everything and suffer greatly.”
“Ah… you—”
Before Pei Jue could finish his sentence, Lin Zhiwei suddenly stabbed him without hesitation.
He moved swiftly—before Pei Jue could react, the sharp blade had already pierced his body.
Cold steel tore through flesh, sending a chilling pain through Pei Jue’s entire being. He could feel death creeping toward him.
His eyes widened in shock, his face filled with disbelief.
He stared at Lin Zhiwei—the man who had once obeyed him without question. His lips trembled as he tried to speak.
“You… you… how dare you…”
Before he could finish, Lin Zhiwei mercilessly pulled out the knife and plunged it into him again.
This time, he stabbed even deeper and harder than before.
Pei Jue coughed up blood, unable to stand.
Just as he was about to collapse, Lin Zhiwei “kindly” grabbed him, preventing him from falling.
“Pei Jue, do you remember when we planned to fake a civil conflict and stage our deaths to escape?”
“You joked, asking me if I had always wanted to do it.”
“I answered ‘no’ at the time.”
“But the truth is… my answer was ‘yes.’”
“Even back then, I wanted nothing more than to truly kill you.” Lin Zhiwei’s voice was laced with venom.
“You thought I didn’t know you were using me like a dog? You thought I would be eternally grateful to you?”
“But it doesn’t matter anymore…” Lin Zhiwei laughed maniacally. “Today, my wish has finally come true.”
“Hahaha… HAHAHAHA!” Lin Zhiwei laughed in triumph, staring at Pei Jue, who was bleeding profusely.
“What’s wrong? Surprised that even a ‘dog’ like me would one day bite back?”
“Pei Jue, let me teach you a lesson: Dogs… do ‘bite.’”
A sinister smile appeared on Lin Zhiwei’s face as he pulled out the knife once more.
Pei Jue collapsed, his eyes locked onto Lin Zhiwei.
But there was no fear in Lin Zhiwei’s gaze—only ruthlessness and determination.
He plunged the knife in again.
Blood splattered across Lin Zhiwei’s face.
And yet, he felt exhilarated.
But he hadn’t expected… that Xiao Xue had witnessed everything.
So, he decided to finish the job—killing Xiao Xue as well.
After all, she and her father had always looked down on him.
From the moment he killed Pei Jue and Xiao Xue, he had been secretly transferring his assets.
Chen Jiang was just an ordinary construction worker he had promoted.
If the authorities investigated, they would first look at board members, shareholders, special assistants, financial directors, or his relatives—Lin Qingyou, Wang Yalan, Lin Qingqing.
They would never suspect a simple, unremarkable construction worker.
