Chapter 8: The Labor-First Sixties
What is this?
The system accompanied the host, indicating some experience, speculating that the few grains of rice earlier were of good quality…
Lin Muqing, feeling overwhelmed, dared not smuggle anything again.
“Don’t worry, even if you exert yourself vigorously, you won’t lose it. The top-grade pills aren’t just for show, plus you have the restorative potions, so the organs are in a good state; just rest.”
Rest was indeed what was needed.
However, Gu Yu did not allow her to rest.
That evening, they returned home.
He sat down to eat alone.
“Mom, Dad, Grandpa, Grandma, my wife is pregnant,” Gu Yu announced solemnly.
“Really?”
“Oh, so the doctors in town are reliable?”
They were all extraordinarily happy.
Gu Yu smiled and nodded, saying, “The doctors are not just one.”
“Huh?”
“What does this mean…”
Clearly, they had not anticipated how painful it could be to have children.
In the village, there were indeed cases where a mother had twins, but in those rare cases, either the children died during childbirth or the mother died from complications.
Gu’s mother frowned, looking worried.
Gu’s father pondered for a moment, “What… should we try again next time?”
Gu’s grandparents seriously considered the situation and made a decision.
Grandma Gu insisted, “Shouldn’t we wait and determine if we can have another child?”
“Huh?” Lin Muqing, who was forcefully eating four bowls of rice, was taken aback, “What do you mean, hurry and terminate the pregnancy?!”
“We’re just concerned. Having two children isn’t easy, after all…”
“Wife, my life is worth more,” Gu Yu said firmly regarding his wife.
Lin Muqing put down the chicken leg and quickly clarified, “No! I’m fine, I’m healthy and don’t feel uncomfortable at all.”
This was her mission objective; she had long anticipated this child.
Gu Yu was puzzled and received a pinch from his wife.
Grandma Gu had experience in helping others with childbirth; she knew it was not the right time to rush into this topic.
She advised, “Gu Yu, pay attention. In three months, we’ll check on the situation. If there are two, it’s going to be tough.”
Lin Muqing patted her belly and reassured her, “Grandma, don’t worry; the doctors told me I’m very healthy.”
That night, Gu Yu furrowed his brow while trying to sleep, occasionally gingerly touching Lin Muqing’s belly. Lin Muqing repeatedly assured him that her body was indeed very fine.
As the weeks went by, everyone kept asking if she felt any discomfort, but aside from her belly gradually showing signs of pregnancy, there were no typical pregnancy symptoms—she was eating, sleeping, and had plenty of energy.
When three months rolled around, the system notified her directly.
“Host, I discovered you’re having three babies!”
Lin Muqing had prepared herself but was still shocked and immediately began taking care of herself for the pregnancy.
Gu Yu took her to the hospital to confirm it was indeed three, ensuring she was fine and more determined to protect her.
The entire family cherished the future little ones, fearing any bumps or injuries—no one allowed her to do any work. She was only permitted to take walks and eat.
Lin Muqing still helped out with the work occasionally, while Gu Yu took on most of it, and she made sure to enjoy the sunshine.
Having experience with pregnancies, she was well aware of what to eat and what to avoid. Besides her belly gradually becoming more prominent, she showed none of the usual pregnancy symptoms.
Every morning, Gu Yu would rise early to prepare breakfast, knowing her appetite was good. He made her delicious meals, featuring chicken, meat, and eggs without any greasy dishes, serving pure meat to her.
Grandma Gu was busy sewing new clothes, ensuring they fit both boys and girls.
Grandpa Gu was hammering wood to make toy horses.
Gu’s parents had begun planning to renovate a room in the house next door, considering three children would surely make living together crowded.
However, due to the last incident where the village head refused to approve their plans, Gu Yu took it upon himself to find a solution.
Time passed quickly.
Gu Yu frequently went hunting in the mountains to ensure Lin Muqing had meat to eat at every meal, and the villagers couldn’t stop envying him.
In the village, the workpoints accrued by laboring weren’t comparable to Gu Yu’s efforts. Those who regret forcing their daughters to marry him were now quiet since his family was prosperous.
Lin Muqing hadn’t worked but earned money through Gu Yu, who secretly gave her money every so often, adding to the three hundred they already had, building their savings to five or six hundred in total.
When her belly reached six months, Gu Yu had already become the new village head.
This position was indeed earned.
Those who had bullied the Gu family were dealt with appropriately.
The former village chief had been reported for his wrongdoings and sent for labor reform.
Now they successfully built their new house.
Their plans were no longer obstructed by pretenses, and they got back to work with vigor.
“Of course, he is the main character,” the system commented, applauding.
By eight months along, Lin Muqing’s pregnancy was obvious, but she hadn’t developed stretch marks.
Throughout her entire pregnancy, there hadn’t been any morning sickness, and her body was pleasantly full, maintaining a graceful figure filled with femininity.
She was becoming increasingly adorable.
Gu Yu was worried about her appetite, coupled with the stress over her impending labor, which caused him to frown continuously. His once fierce expression had grown even sharper and more intimidating.
The villagers couldn’t help but be wary of the newly appointed village head’s intensity.
