Chapter 66 : A Case That Shocked the Nation
Although the boy was a little scared, he still cooperated with her and pleaded for mercy as he had before.
“Please let me go! If I get caught, my brother, sister, father, and mother will starve to death! I have no choice!”
But Song Shiwei still refused and pulled him forward.
The market entrance wasn’t far from here. If she remembered correctly, when she arrived earlier, she had seen a few people patrolling near the entrance.
However, the man had clearly seen through her intentions.
He immediately quickened his pace to catch up.
By this time, the onlookers who had been watching the spectacle didn’t follow them. After all, they weren’t completely idle, the big market fair only happened once every half a month, and they still had shopping to do!
In fact, it wasn’t easy for Song Shiwei and the others either. She was holding onto the boy with one hand and carrying her seafood bucket with the other.
If she had known this would happen, she would never have brought the seafood bucket along.
Not only was it heavy because of all the seawater inside, but she was also worried it might tip over, killing all the sea cucumbers and abalone she had worked so hard to catch.
Zhou Lin was in a similar situation. One of his arms carried a basket full of freshly bought chicken and duck eggs, while his other arm was holding some large nuts. Usually, he was quick on his feet, but with so many things in his hands, he couldn’t run fast!
Song Shiwei finally ran out of the market, but the patrolling militia she had seen earlier was nowhere to be found, making her heart sink.
She had miscalculated! If she had known they wouldn’t be here now, she would never have run this way!
The man was getting closer and closer, and Song Shiwei even caught a glimpse of a reflective “weapon” hidden in his sleeve.
She made up her mind and suddenly pulled Zhou Lin and the others to a stop.
She couldn’t run any further. If she did, the road ahead would only lead them farther off track!
If that happened, even if Sun Meimei and the others brought the militia, they wouldn’t be able to find them in time.
She didn’t dare let Zhou Lin out of her sight, fearing that the man might have accomplices lurking nearby who could harm him.
She could only whisper, “Zhou Lin, step back!”
Seeing them stop, the man also slowed his pace.
He curled his lips into a smirk and walked toward them step by step.
In his mind, Song Shiwei and the child were already in his grasp.
This young wife was so pretty! If they managed to capture her, she could probably be sold for a good price.
As for the boy next to her, he could be used for “work”!
Thinking of this, his grin widened.
He already had a scar on the left side of his face, and when he smiled, it made him look even more sinister.
The boy beside Song Shiwei trembled violently, his legs shaking uncontrollably in terror.
The man, on the other hand, was feeling extremely pleased with himself. Seeing others fear him always fed his overwhelming vanity.
“You little bitch, why don’t you keep running? Huh? Why did you stop?”
Song Shiwei narrowed her eyes slightly as she watched him slowly pull a dagger from his sleeve. The blade gleamed menacingly, its sharp edge reflecting the cold white light of the sun filtering through the leaves above.
The boy’s eyes reddened with fear.
Then, with a loud thud, he suddenly dropped to his knees.
“Boss Falcon, please forgive me! I swear I won’t steal again! I…I really don’t dare! Please, don’t kill me!”
Falcon?
Hearing that name, Song Shiwei’s expression froze.
In that instant, a plot from a book flashed through her mind
In 1982, a major human trafficking case had occurred that shocked the entire nation.
The leader of this organization was called Falcon. The book only provided a brief description of Falcon’s appearance. The reason Song Shiwei remembered him so vividly was the hideous scar on his left cheek.
Falcon was mentioned in the book because, on the eve of the wedding of the novel’s protagonists, Ji Yanli and Jiang Xinxin, Jiang Xinxin was walking home from night school and was nearly kidnapped. Fortunately, she was saved by Ji Yanli!
Ji Yanli fought with the thug and was injured, but with Jiang Xinxin’s help, they managed to subdue him and send him to the local public security bureau.
To their shock, the police discovered that he was the wanted fugitive Falcon!
He was a key figure in a criminal organization that had been trafficking women and children since 1978, with a total of 148 victims!
This case became the most shocking crime in the entire country at the time.
As a result, Jiang Xinxin and Ji Yanli, who had bravely captured Falcon, were publicly commended. Thanks to this recognition, Ji Yanli was successfully elected as the deputy director of the factory.
Thinking back on this, Song Shiwei was at a loss for words. She never expected to meet him so many years in advance!
This man was ruthless, no wonder he had targeted them. She was a woman with two children, making her an easy target for their organization.
She had no idea if Zhou Cheng had found Sun Meimei yet. At this moment, she even regretted asking him to go look for her.
If anything happened to the child, she would feel unbearably guilty.
But now was not the time for guilt.
She and Zhou Lin were in the most danger.
If the militia had not arrived and she failed to subdue Falcon, the likely outcome would have been them getting knocked unconscious and taken away, she would be trafficked to a remote mountain village to become someone’s wife, while Zhou Lin would end up like the child in front of her, forced into theft, beaten if he failed.
At this thought, she couldn’t help but wail internally: How could I be so unlucky? I came to this remote island, went to a big market, and ran into the villain from the book! This is like a maggot falling into a salt jar, pure bad luck!
Although she had practiced martial arts in her previous life and was fairly skilled, Falcon was also a fighter. And as the saying goes “The barefoot are not afraid of those who wear shoes.”
She wasn’t afraid of strong opponents, but she feared those who had nothing to lose.
Song Shiwei also had to protect the two children behind her, she couldn’t afford to die.
But someone like Falcon had already resigned himself to a life of crime. When he made a move, he wouldn’t hesitate to kill.
Song Shiwei realized her only chance was to strike first, catching him off guard when he least expected it. Otherwise, she might not get another opportunity.
With this in mind, she inched closer to Zhou Lin, slowly reaching her hand behind her back into the basket Zhou Lin was carrying.
She grasped two eggs firmly in her palm.
At that moment, Falcon looked at Song Shiwei more brazenly, as if scanning her with an X-ray. His lustful gaze made her stomach churn with disgust.
If she really fell into Falcon’s hands, she couldn’t imagine what horrors awaited her.
Falcon grinned lecherously as he walked forward, idly twirling a dagger between his fingertips.
Song Shiwei’s palms, clutching the eggs, were already slick with sweat.
The distance between them shrank, two meters.
In a flash, Song Shiwei hurled the eggs straight at Falcon’s face.
