Chapter 68 : Who could have thought that I would fall into her hands today?
Old Meng noticed the injuries on Gousheng’s body and quickly helped him up.
“Good boy, tell Uncle where those children are. We’ll send someone to rescue them right away!”
Gousheng kowtowed vigorously in gratitude.
His eyes turned red as he cried, “They… they were all locked up in a small dark room, and they’re all badly injured! Really badly! I… I can’t explain it well, but I know the place! I can take you there!”
When Old Meng heard this, his expression darkened immediately. “Those bastards! They’re absolutely cruel and inhumane!”
Song Shiwei also frowned.
Jian Qiu asked with concern, “Why are you so badly injured? If they beat you so severely, wouldn’t that be a loss for them as traffickers?”
Gousheng wiped his tears, his eyes filled with hatred. “They don’t care whether we live or die! They kidnapped us only to use us, to help them steal money or lure their targets into traps. We had to lead people to remote places so they could kidnap them! If we refused to go or failed to steal money, we’d get beaten!”
As he spoke, his voice grew quieter, and he even glanced at Song Shiwei with guilt.
Everyone present understood instantly. No wonder he had tried to steal from Song Shiwei. She was probably their next target young, beautiful, and with two children.
Wasn’t that killing several birds with one stone?
Song Shiwei sighed softly.
“Then your injuries…”
Gousheng looked down at his chest and pursed his lips. “At first, I refused to cooperate. But then, Xiaohu and Erniu were almost beaten to death. I couldn’t just stand by and watch them die. Someone had to steal things like they ordered! Besides… I wanted to use the chance to find a way to escape!”
He never expected to run into Song Shiwei!
Gousheng had never imagined that this beautiful sister, who didn’t seem much older than him, could actually take down Falcon!
And now, with the militia here, they were going to capture all of Falcon’s men at the market!
Old Meng was livid when he heard this.
“Damn it! I’m going to wipe out their entire lair today!”
Song Shiwei thought for a moment and said, “Brother Meng, these human traffickers are desperate criminals. I think we should coordinate with the local police or seek help from the military. After all, we don’t know how many of them there are, how well-armed they are, or how many children they’ve already abducted.”
Old Meng immediately realized she had a point.
Gousheng quickly spoke up. “I know! They have at least 20 people, and they have guns! They’re hiding behind Yushan Mountain, south of the island!”
Old Meng’s expression changed dramatically.
He spat angrily. “Damn it! They even have guns! This is serious. They’re no different from bandits! Our militia isn’t equipped to handle this. The best option is to call in the military!”
Wang Chunxiang nodded in agreement. “I think so too. These human traffickers have guns, aren’t they just bandits at this point? Good thing he didn’t bring a gun today, or more people might’ve been killed!”
Song Shiwei also felt a chill of fear. If Falcon had been carrying a gun, she might’ve been in real danger!
Luckily, she knew that Falcon’s gang was still in its early stages and didn’t dare to stir up too much trouble. They could only rely on petty theft and secret kidnappings.
That’s why he hadn’t carried a gun, only a dagger.
Who would’ve thought that today, he’d end up in her hands?
If they really made it to 1982, their gang would have become truly powerful, spreading all over the country!
Otherwise, it wouldn’t have turned into the biggest case that shocked the entire nation!
After ensuring that everyone was safe, Old Meng had to report the case to the local public security bureau.
Then, he needed to find a way to contact the military and organize a rescue operation.
There was no time to waste.
Gousheng was also taken away by them.
Sun Meimei looked at the unfinished shopping and swallowed hard before turning to Song Shiwei.
“Are we still going to the market?”
Jian Qiu and Wang Chunxiang also looked at Song Shiwei.
Song Shiwei smiled and said, “Of course we are! Why not? The bad guys have been caught, and we still haven’t finished our shopping. We only get to come here once every half a month, so why wouldn’t we?”
Hearing this, Sun Meimei and the others grinned. However, after entering the market again, they didn’t dare to separate or wander off.
Wherever they went, they stuck together.
At this moment, Song Shiwei had become like a hero in their hearts!
She was amazing, she had single-handedly taken down the leader of the human traffickers!
Fortunately, the market was not too affected by the incident and remained as lively as ever.
However, after what had just happened, no one felt like strolling around anymore. Everyone went straight to the stalls they needed to visit.
Song Shiwei bought rice, flour, and some vegetables. Then, she found a pork vendor and purchased ten kilograms of pork.
She also stumbled upon a seller offering chicks and ducklings and decided to buy five chicks and five ducklings!
Zhou Cheng and Zhou Lin were overjoyed.
For the first time in a while, a genuine smile appeared on their faces.
Since she didn’t have anything to carry them in, Song Shiwei bought two bamboo baskets. She placed the chicks and ducklings in one basket it wasn’t too heavy, so she let Zhou Cheng carry it.
The other basket, which contained food and other items, she carried herself.
Later, she saw someone selling fresh milk.
Song Shiwei was pleasantly surprised.
She bought five pounds of goat milk, stored it in a large canning jar, and placed it in the basket.
Sun Meimei wanted to buy some as well, but it was too expensive, so she gave up in the end.
Jian Qiu and Wang Chunxiang didn’t buy any either since their children had grown up and no longer needed goat milk.
During this time, Song Shiwei also asked if anyone was interested in buying abalone and sea cucumber. She was hoping to exchange them for something affordable, like fabric and cotton ration coupons.
However, most of the people at the market were from rural areas in the surrounding countryside. How could they afford such delicacies?
It was better to keep them and trade them for more food!
Left with no other option, Song Shiwei carried the seafood back with her.
On the way home, Sun Meimei looked at the bucket of seafood and sighed.
“What a pity!”
Jian Qiu nodded. “Yeah, if this were in Beijing, it would sell like crazy! Unfortunately, this area is too poor people don’t even have enough food to eat. Who would buy luxury seafood?”
Song Shiwei also felt a bit helpless. Although she had expected it to be difficult to sell, she was still a little disappointed.
“Forget it. If we can’t sell them, we’ll just give them to the children!”
Even though Sun Meimei and the others thought it was a waste, there wasn’t much they could do about it.
Zhou Cheng suddenly fell into deep thought.
“Mom, do you think we could sell them if we took them across the river?”
Zhou Lin’s eyes lit up. “Yeah, Mom! Qing City, across the water, is much wealthier than our Qilian Island. There are lots of factories there. If we take them over to sell, not only might we find buyers, but we could also sell them for a good price!”
Hearing this, Sun Meimei and the others became excited.
“That’s right! Why didn’t I think of that?”
“Weiwei, why not try selling them on the other side? It’s more developed over there. The factory directors and big bosses always treat their guests to nice meals, don’t they? And the buyers from state-owned restaurants are always looking for high-quality ingredients! If they see your seafood, they might even buy all of it from you!”
