Chapter 71 : If something really happens to you, what should I do?

Xiao Cui and Xiaojun were also shocked.  

Fortunately, Song Shiwei reacted quickly and grabbed the thing in her hand the moment Zhou Cheng threw it out.  

However, this thing seemed to have never been caught like this before. Its entire body kept struggling and thrashing, and its bloody mouth, full of sharp fangs, tried to bite Song Shiwei.  

But since Song Shiwei was gripping it just below its jaw, it couldn’t bite her no matter how much it twisted its head.  

Song Shiwei was ecstatic. “Hahaha, this is a great catch! I didn’t expect to catch one!!”  

Her face was filled with excitement.  

Zhou Cheng, Zhou Lin, and Xiao Cui were so terrified by the “scary fish” that they kept swallowing nervously.  

Zhou Lin timidly asked, “Mom, what is this?”  

Song Shiwei explained with a smile, “This is an anglerfish! It’s also called a lantern fish, toad fish, or old man fish. It’s a deep-sea fish. Because of its loose muscles, underdeveloped movement organs, and heavy body, it has difficulty swimming and can only crawl along the seabed using its arm-like pectoral fins. It’s usually hard to catch one, but I didn’t expect the waves to bring it ashore this time!”  

As she spoke, she glanced at the anglerfish’s bulging belly in surprise.  

“The flesh of the monkfish is rich in gelatin. It’s delicious and nutritious, especially its liver, which is extremely tasty and is known as the ‘foie gras of the sea.’”  

When the children heard this, their eyes lit up as they looked at the ugly fish.  

Zhou Lin poked the small lantern-like structure on its back with his finger and said with a smile, “Even though you look so ugly, as long as you taste good, that’s all that matters!”  

Song Shiwei placed the fish into another bucket and added more seawater.  

“We’ll take it to Qing City tomorrow and see if we can sell it for a good price!”  

Later, they caught a few crabs and shrimp. When the tide started to rise, Song Shiwei took the children back home.  

That evening, when Zhou Tingyue returned and heard Zhou Cheng talk about what had happened in the morning, he was terrified!  

He grabbed Song Shiwei, looked her up and down, checking her thoroughly, and only after making sure she was truly unharmed did he breathe a sigh of relief.  

“I was scared to death!”  

Song Shiwei smiled helplessly, held his arm, and guided him to sit down. “Don’t worry, I’m fine! It’s all over now!”  

Seeing that Zhou Cheng and Zhou Lin were also unharmed, he felt somewhat relieved, but he still couldn’t shake off his lingering fear.  

“It looks like I can’t let you go out on your own anymore. From now on, let me know when you’re going out, and I’ll have Xiao Zhang go with you!”  

Xiao Zhang was Zhou Tingyue’s assistant. Usually, he was the one delivering coal and other necessities to the house. Whenever Zhou Tingyue was on a mission, the four children were usually cared for by a neighboring sister-in-law, while Xiao Zhang would occasionally check in on them.  

Song Shiwei was aware of this, but that was before she arrived. Ever since she came, Zhou Tingyue had never let Xiao Zhang visit their house again.  

Besides, she didn’t want to trouble him. Xiao Zhang was usually busy assisting Zhou Tingyue with messages and other tasks.  

But Zhou Tingyue was truly worried. Looking at the young woman before him her fair skin, beautiful face, curvy figure, and slender waist it was no surprise that she could attract unwanted attention.  

How could he feel at ease?  

Especially when Zhou Lin mentioned that they planned to go to Qing City with Song Shiwei tomorrow.  

Without hesitation, he said, “I’ll have Xiao Zhang come over tomorrow morning to accompany you to Qing City!”

Seeing that Song Shiwei was still about to refuse, he quickly said, “This trip is too far, and you have to take both a boat and a car. I’m worried. Tomorrow, Wang Chuanling is going to the dock for some work, so it’s a perfect opportunity for him to give you a ride!”  

Since he had already made all the arrangements, Song Shiwei did not refuse.  

After dinner, when the children had fallen asleep, he held Song Shiwei in his arms as they lay in bed and sighed helplessly. “I’ve already told you, leave everything to me. Let me figure out a way to get the cotton and cloth coupons. Since you want to give it a try, I’ll let you do it, but only if you can ensure your own safety, understand? Think about it, if something really happened to you, what would I do?”  

He bent down and kissed her forehead, his eyes full of love.  

Song Shiwei realized that she had indeed made him worry today, so she snuggled into his arms, acting coy. She grabbed his collar with her small hands, raised her head, and gently kissed his Adam’s apple.  

“I understand. I’ll listen to you. I’ll let Xiao Zhang go with me tomorrow, and I won’t make you worry anymore!”  

With the beauty in his arms, Zhou Tingyue had been trying to restrain himself, but her soft kiss was like adding fuel to the fire. Combined with her gentle voice and sweet words, he truly loved her beyond measure.  

“This afternoon, we received a request from the local public security department. Tomorrow, I will personally lead a team to attack Yushan! Don’t worry, I will make sure those children are rescued safely!”  

After saying that, he turned over and pressed down on her, leaving Song Shiwei both surprised and worried.  

At dawn the next day, Song Shiwei woke up and reached out to touch the bedside, but the person beside her was already gone.  

She couldn’t help but sigh, Zhou Tingyue was truly hardworking. Last night, he had worked until one or two in the morning, and yet he still set off before dawn.  

He barely got a few hours of sleep.

She only hoped that he could fulfill his promise, rescue all the children safely and return with his soldiers unharmed.  

After getting up and washing up, she started making breakfast for the children. She estimated that Xiao Zhang and Wang Chuanling would be arriving soon.  

Wang Chuanling was a battalion-level officer. His wife was still back in their hometown and had not yet joined him here, so he wasn’t living in the family compound.  

He and Zhou Tingyue were brothers who had shared life-and-death experiences, having come all the way from the recruit training camp together.  

Just as she and the children finished breakfast, they heard the sound of a car pulling up outside.  

Before she could react, several children had already dropped their bowls and chopsticks and rushed out like the wind.  

As soon as they saw who it was, Zhou Wei and Xinxin ran up and hugged his legs from both sides.  

“Uncle Wang!! We haven’t seen you in so long!!”

Zhou Cheng and Zhou Lin also greeted him excitedly. “Hello, Uncle Wang!”  

This was the scene Song Shiwei walked out to see. She couldn’t help but smile and said, “You came so early. Have you had breakfast? If not, why don’t you eat with us?”  

Wang Chuanling smiled and glanced at Song Shiwei from head to toe. This was only the second time he had seen her. The first time was in Beijing, where he had only caught a glimpse of her from a distance and thought she was a very beautiful girl.  

But seeing her up close now, she was even more stunning than he had imagined.  

No wonder Zhou Tingyue was in such a hurry to marry her. Who wouldn’t want to bring her home right away?  

Xiao Zhang was also taken aback. Before Captain Zhou left, he had told him that he was going home to get married and that he wouldn’t need Xiao Zhang to handle household matters anymore, he just had to deliver coal when needed.  

So, this was his first time meeting Song Shiwei as well.  

Seeing how young and beautiful she was, he truly hadn’t expected it.
