Chapter 54: Proud Scholar x Elite Lawyer 12
In the blink of an eye, three years had slipped away like sand through his fingers.
Xie Qingjia, who had been studying in France, successfully graduated from the physics department of a local technical university, earning the honor of outstanding graduate.
However, this international student found himself in a dilemma, wavering between returning to his home country and staying in France to pursue further studies.
Another significant factor was that his boyfriend of three years was now pressuring him to get married, likely due to impatience and the anxiety of approaching his thirties.
At the age of twenty-four, Xie Qingjia’s boyfriend, Oberon, who was six years older, had already turned thirty, reaching the age when marriage and settling down were expected.
Oberon had held back for the past two years, considering Xie Qingjia’s studies, but now that he had graduated, he began to bring up the topic of marriage.
Xie Qingjia had no objections, but the fact that only his older brother knew about his relationship with Oberon, while his parents and younger sister were completely unaware, added to his concerns.
He feared the storm that would break out once he returned home!
Not only did he face the decision of whether to stay in his home country or return to France for further studies, but he also had to deal with the issue of introducing his boyfriend to his family. It was truly a dilemma.
In the end, he decided to bring Oberon back to his home country. After dating for three years, it was time to meet the parents and get married.
As for what would happen in the future, that was a matter for later.
Thus, during the graduation season, Xie Qingjia, the international student, returned to the capital of Huaxia with his foreign boyfriend.
Oberon had been waiting for this day for three years, and now his wish was finally fulfilled.
He wore a smile throughout the journey.
When the Xie family saw Xie Qingjia, they greeted him with warm smiles, but their expressions turned unfriendly when they saw the man beside him.
“Qingjia, who is this gentleman?” Xie Dad looked at Oberon with a stern face, showing no friendliness toward the foreigner.
No father would be happy to see his son being embraced by a foreign man. It was a miracle he didn’t kick him.
Xie Qingjia introduced the man beside him, “This is my boyfriend from abroad. His name is Oberon, and we’ve been dating for three years.”
Oberon smiled warmly.
“Hello, I am Oberon Rial. It’s a pleasure to meet all of you.”
Xie Qingjia looked up at the sky, pretending not to know anything.
Don’t ask him; he knew nothing about his younger brother’s relationship.
“Young man, you have good taste,” Xie Mom said, examining Oberon’s brown hair and blue eyes. Unlike Xie Dad, she didn’t show anger but rather seemed to be increasingly pleased, like a mother-in-law looking at her future son-in-law.
Tsk, so her son had been dating a man all these years!
Oberon smiled at his future mother-in-law, “Thank you for your kind words. I think I have good taste too. Qingjia is a wonderful partner.”
“I’m here to discuss our future. I would like to formally ask for your blessing and permission to marry Qingjia.”
Xie Dad gritted his teeth, “Qingjia, do you want to marry him?”
Xie Qingjia nodded honestly.
Xie Dad nearly fainted on the spot, feeling a sense of helplessness as his son grew up.
“You…” He was about to say something when his wife elbowed him hard.
Xie Dad looked at his wife with a pained expression, “Honey, he’s trying to take our son away!”
“If our son is taken away, we’ll have to travel internationally just to see him!”
Xie Mom glared at him, “If our son is happy, that’s all that matters. Don’t interfere so much.”
“Besides, whether our son stays in the country or goes abroad is his own choice.”
At least their son was doing well now, much better than the dire situation four years ago when he was constantly plagued by misfortune, tripping down the stairs and encountering criminals…
They had no choice but to send their son abroad to escape the bad luck, hoping a change of environment would bring better fortune. Surely, he couldn’t continue to be so unlucky!
Their son’s luck changed for the better abroad, and he even brought back a handsome and spirited foreign boyfriend.
Now, looking back, living abroad wasn’t so bad, especially compared to the constant misfortune he faced in the country. They wondered which deity he had offended to suffer so much four years ago, nearly losing his life.
Xie Dad fell silent.
He too remembered the series of accidents four years ago.
Xie Mom looked at Xie Qingjia and Oberon with a comforting smile, “Do whatever you want. I will always support you.”
She tried to recall, “I remember that for an international marriage, you need to provide many documents, such as household registration, passports, ID cards, and birth certificates. You should prepare all these documents.”
“I’ll find our household registration book for you, and you should hurry to complete all the necessary procedures. Register with Oberon as soon as possible.”
Oberon quickly changed his address, “Thank you, Mom.”
“!!!” Xie Qingjia looked at his open-minded mother in surprise, then at his father, who was still silent with a dark expression, and finally looked up at the sky like his brother, pretending to be deep in thought, leaving his mother and Oberon to chat.
Xie Qingru, his younger sister, leaned in and whispered, “Brother, you kept this a secret for so long, not even a word to the family for three years.”
Xie Qingjia looked at his sister, “I told someone.”
Xie Qingru widened her eyes and tilted her head, “Who did you tell? We didn’t know!”
Xie Qingjia pointed at his brother, who was looking up at the sky, and said calmly, “I told Big Brother. He suggested I keep it a secret from you all, fearing that our parents might have a heart attack.”
“But I think our parents are quite accepting.”
Xie Qingru blinked, looked at her brother, who was acting like a wooden post, and then at her father, whose face was dark. Finally, she looked back at her brother.
“I think Big Brother was right. If you had told our parents earlier, Dad would have flown to France to kick your boyfriend out.”
“Mom might have been sad for a long time before accepting the reality.”
Fortunately, it had been a few years, or their parents wouldn’t have accepted it so quickly.
Xie Qingjia’s lips twitched, “Alright, instead of worrying about me, think about which school you want to apply to. Don’t always be so nosy about others’ affairs.”
His sister was taking the college entrance exam this year and needed to decide which university to attend.
Xie Qingru huffed, “I’ve already decided. I plan to go to the Capital Foreign Studies University. I want to be a diplomat.”
Xie Qingjia gave her a thumbs up, “Good for you, I support you.”
Xie Qingya walked over, “Qingjia, are you planning to stay or leave again?”
Xie Qingjia frowned slightly, “I’m not sure. I’m still considering whether to stay or leave. I haven’t made a final decision yet.”
“Big Brother, do you think I should stay in the country or continue my studies abroad?”
Xie Qingya patted his shoulder, “That’s up to you. Others can only give you advice, but they can’t make the decision for you.”
Xie Qingjia glanced at him, “You’re not helping at all!”
The three siblings chatted, while Xie Dad and Xie Mom engaged in a lively conversation with Oberon. Each group talked among themselves.
