Doomsday Camp [Base Construction]
Doomsday Camp [Base Construction] Chapter 62

Chapter 62:

Upon learning that the car accident was orchestrated by the system, Yun Shan finally felt relieved and put moving on her agenda.

After spending several days organizing, upon moving into her new home, she discovered that Lu Ming also lived in the same neighborhood.

“If I suggested living together, you’d probably run away,” Lu Ming casually remarked. “So, I bought a separate house.”

Yun Shan: “…”

“This is a villa area. Where did you get a house?” she inquired.

Lu Ming replied “Selling registration codes makes it quite easy to get one.”

“What are your plans for the future?” Yun Shan changed the subject.

Lu Ming responded, “From 8 AM to 6 PM, you accompany me (to the other world) at work. From 6 PM to 8 AM, I accompany you back home.”

Yun Shan thought to herself, this is truly a mix of work and romance.

A week later.

The turmoil ended, and everything returned to tranquility.

Yun Shan returned to the estate, where the wolfhounds and red falcons rushed over, seeking affection.

“Long time no see, I’ve missed you all,” Yun Shan said as she petted each of them.

Xiao Bai, against all odds, squeezed next to Yun Shan, using every trick to vie for attention.

“I promised to cook for you for a whole week, and I haven’t forgotten,” Yun Shan said.

Xiao Bai took advantage of the opportunity to negotiate: “You’re fulfilling your promise too late! There must be interest added! Grooming, playtime, making snacks… In short, I should be the most pampered creature in the estate.”

“Got it, got it, I’ll make sure to thank you properly.” Yun Shan agreed.

After pacifying the legion of battle pets, Lu Liu happened to pass by.

Yun Shan stopped her and inquired, “What happened to the camp battle later on?”

“It’s all thanks to you,” Lu Liu smiled faintly. “If the Lord had lost his composure, winning wouldn’t have been easy. Fortunately, the Lord remained rational and displayed the full strength expected of a five-star. No matter how many tricks the Blue Cedar Camp had, they were completely suppressed.”

“What about Qi Nian?” Yun Shan asked.

“He’s dead, killed by a traveler,” Lu Liu mentioned Qi Nian’s name without concern, having heard it from others. “Qi Nian thought he could not take over the Red Maple Camp but could escape unscathed. However, he was chased and killed on his escape, seemingly for his Lord’s token.”

Yun Shan was taken aback.

In the “Doomsday Camp” game, there was no such thing as a Lord’s token. By constructing buildings and gathering subordinates/residents, one could establish a camp and become its ruler.

One could only say that Qi Nian’s death was unjust.

“Oh, one more thing,” Lu Liu recalled, her expression suddenly serious. “Rolled cigarettes are a specialty of the Blue Cedar Camp, used by Qi Nian to control the residents of the Red Maple Camp. Now, many people have become addicted to it. I wonder if the Divine Doctor can cure them?”

“Burn all the rolled cigarettes and tobacco materials, and everything will be fine.” Yun Shan advised.

Lu Liu was puzzled, “Without taking any medicine?”

“No need.” Yun Shan explained, “When you smoke, you feel incredibly light and happy. After smoking, the memory of that feeling remains in your mind. When you see rolled cigarettes later, you can’t help but smoke again.”

“In the end, the happy memories are too deep, and few can resist the temptation.” Yun Shan continued. “They believe that if they can’t smoke rolled cigarettes again and can’t experience that feeling, they’ll die. In reality, it’s just an illusion. Over time, they will come to terms with reality, and it won’t be a big deal.”

“I see.” Lu Liu realized.

“By the way, make a list of people with cigarette addiction,” Yun Shan reminded her. “Although the rolled cigarettes will be extinct and these people will gradually regain their sanity, once rolled cigarettes reappear, these individuals, driven by the desire to smoke again, will do anything.”

Lu Liu nodded, “Got it.”

In the afternoon, Yun Shan busied herself in the kitchen. By the time she had fed the eager and voracious battle pets, the sky had turned dark.

“Still busy?” Lu Ming peeked in.

“I’m done.” Yun Shan replied as she nibbled on a pastry.

Lu Ming asked, “Eating dessert now, will you still be able to eat dinner later?”

“You don’t understand.” Yun Shan replied with conviction, “Eating two dinners only increases the calorie count by one. That’s where true happiness lies!”

“If you like it, eat more,” Lu Ming said, taking her hand as he spoke.

Yun Shan looked at their interlocked fingers. “What are you doing?”

“I just fought a battle with a four-star mutant vine, holding hands to prevent a relapse.” Lu Ming earnestly explained.

Yun Shan thought: This doesn’t make sense!

“What four-star mutant vine? Where near the camp is there a four-star mutant vine?” Yun Shan suspected that Lu Ming was teasing her.

“It exists.” Lu Ming insisted. “You forgot, in February 2207 of the first round, Blue Cedar Camp deliberately caused chaos to steal food. Not long after, a five-star mutant vine appeared in the wilderness. I nearly lost my life trying to get rid of it.”

With the reminder, Yun Shan belatedly remembered, “There was such an incident.”

“In the previous life, both the Red Maple Camp and the Blue Cedar Camp were short of food, so Qi Nian planned to steal food. This time, the Red Maple Camp had ample reserves, and Qi Nian intended to take over the warehouse and the entire camp.” Lu Ming casually mentioned.

Perplexed, Yun Shan asked. “So, what about the four-star mutant vine?”

“The vine had undergone a mutation long ago and had been lurking in the wilderness. Unlike regular vines, it can absorb corpses as nutrients.” Lu Ming explained.

“Initially, there was a rodent infestation, followed by internal turmoil in the Red Maple Camp, and then the camp battle, which directly led to its growth into a five-star.” he added.

“In this life, after the gray rat extermination, we burned everything clean, the Red Maple Camp didn’t have any internal strife, and the camp battle ended swiftly. Without sufficient sustenance, the vine naturally remained at four stars.” Lu Ming explained.

As they discussed this, Yun Shan recollected. “Right after the ice rainstorm disaster, I took the wolf pack and the falcon group out to hunt for beasts. At the time, I found it strange that the number of beasts we found was far fewer than expected.”

“They were likely taken away early by the vine.” Lu Ming suggested.

A sneaky development? That’s quite devious…

Yun Shan thought to herself that in this world, whether it’s NPCs, beasts, or mutated plants, none of them should be underestimated. A moment of carelessness could lead to suppression.

“However.” Yun Shan drew out her words, her eyes shining. “Defeated by natural disasters, man-made calamities, and internal conflicts, it’s quite thought-provoking, isn’t it?”

“Thought-provoking?” Lu Ming arched an eyebrow, his expression clearly suggesting. “Here’s a chance to rephrase that.”

“I mean, humanity will prevail.” Yun Shan quickly finished the last piece of pastry, then grabbed Lu Ming’s hand, saying. “Let’s go home.”

Lu Ming looked at Yun Shan, a slight upward curve appearing at the corner of his mouth. Inwardly, he sighed lightly, thinking: It’s been wonderful to get to know you.
