Chapter 107: Miss Mo Er Keeps the Child but Abandons the Father
Liu Shengyuan was stunned. Thinking back carefully, he realized that Miss Mo Er had only mentioned that Zhang Qiuhe and her child were nearly poisoned to death—she had never said what they had eaten to be poisoned.
Now, he had no way to argue his innocence.
Panicked, Liu Shengyuan hurriedly grasped Miss Mo Er’s hand and stammered, “Wife, I was just guessing! The only things that could be poisoned are water and pastries, right?”
Miss Mo Er had already confirmed the truth in her heart. She didn’t bother arguing with him any further and simply pushed him away with force.
Standing nearby, General Mo had also pieced together what had happened.
“Well, well! Liu Hansheng, how dare you deceive my daughter!”
Unlike Miss Mo Er, General Mo was not one to be patient. He immediately turned around, grabbed a long sword, and pressed it against Liu Shengyuan’s throat.
Liu Shengyuan trembled uncontrollably in fear.
General Mo bellowed, “Speak! What exactly happened?!”
Terrified to the point of nearly wetting himself, Liu Shengyuan could no longer think of an excuse. He blurted out everything in a panic.
General Mo was so enraged that he almost beheaded him on the spot.
“You beast! You made my daughter take the blame for such a wicked act! Watch me beat you to death!”
With that, he threw aside the long sword, grabbed a whip, and lashed it toward Liu Shengyuan.
Miss Mo Er reached out to stop him. “Father, forget it. We were husband and wife once.”
General Mo, still fuming, was about to argue when he saw Miss Mo Er pick up a brush and write a divorce letter on the table.
Miss Mo Er threw the divorce letter directly at Liu Shengyuan. “Just let him get out! Keeping a man like him in the Mo family will only bring disgrace to our name!”
Liu Shengyuan hurriedly picked up the letter, staring at her in disbelief. “Wife, you’re carrying my child. How can you divorce me just like that?”
Miss Mo Er lowered her head and looked at her stomach. She remained calm as she uttered a few words, “I’ll keep the child, but not the father. Now, leave.”
Liu Shengyuan was stunned. “Mo Qingyu, are you really kicking me out? You’re a pregnant woman—do you think you can remarry?”
Miss Mo Er’s gaze turned ice-cold. “Who said I have to remarry? Even if I never marry again in this lifetime, I refuse to let my child have a father like you.”
With that, she turned to Master Mo and said, “Father, have him thrown out.”
Seeing his daughter so resolute, General Mo felt nothing but pride. He put away his whip and called out to the guards outside, “Men! Throw this scoundrel out of my estate!”
The guards hesitated, exchanging nervous glances. “Master, but he’s the Second Young Mistress’s husband…”
General Mo let out a cold snort. “From this day forward, he is no longer your Second Young Mistress’s husband!”
Hearing this, the guards nodded, stepped forward, and grabbed Liu Shengyuan by the arms.
Liu Shengyuan struggled desperately. “Wife! I know I was wrong! You can’t do this to me! Wife!”
Miss Mo Er stood with her back to him, her hands clenched into fists. She forced herself not to shed a single tear until his voice completely faded away.
“Qingyu, go inside and rest. Leave that beast to me,” Master Mo reassured her.
This youngest daughter of his had been born late in his life, and he cherished her dearly.
Miss Mo Er wiped away a single tear from the corner of her eye, then straightened up and said, “Mm. Father, don’t worry about me. It’s just a man—if I want another one, I’ll find one.”
Master Mo nodded.
With the wealth and status of their family, it wouldn’t be difficult to find another husband for her. However, this incident had made him cautious—it would be better to find someone of equal standing, at least someone whose background was well known.
As he pondered this, he suddenly thought of his eldest daughter’s husband.
His eldest son-in-law wasn’t exactly a live-in son-in-law, but he was a true match in status. Though his family had fallen on hard times, he still came from a noble background.
At that moment, Miss Mo, the eldest daughter, and her husband returned home. They had just stepped through the door when they heard about what had happened.
After careful consideration, General Mo turned to the couple and instructed, “That woman, Zhang Qiuhe, is pitiful. In this matter, our Mo family was also at fault—we failed to properly investigate Liu Shengyuan’s background and ended up stealing another woman’s husband. Because of that, the two of you should take some gifts to her as an apology on behalf of the Mo family.”
The eldest son-in-law wore a dark blue robe. Though older than Liu Shengyuan, his sharp features, calm demeanor, and dignified presence made him incredibly handsome. He carried himself with a noble air, the kind that only someone from an esteemed family could possess.
He bowed respectfully to General Mo and said, “Understood, Father. My wife and I will go at once.”
