Wang Qian was in their backyard, inspecting the area to plan for planting some fruit trees. Unexpectedly, she saw Wang Mei and the elderly lady walking in her direction. She had no feelings for these two women, especially after all the evil deeds they had done. So, she hid behind the back wall and had no intention of facing them.
However, upon hearing Wang Mei’s words, she couldn’t help but find it amusing. She thought that Wang Mei, a lazy person, was just wasting her time wherever she went. Everyone had their own way of living.
Not hearing what she wanted to hear, she straightened up when the two women walked away. She knew that trouble was brewing. She thought of her mother and felt uneasy. After tidying up at home, she quickly locked the door and went out to meet them. If something happened, her siblings would have a hard time in the future.
As fate would have it, when she reached the main road, she coincidentally met Zhang Lan returning from work. She intended to pass by Wang Mei without saying anything, but Wang Mei was persistent. She had suffered a great loss last time, not only enduring a beating from her third brother but also bearing a scar on her wrist. Seeing Zhang Lan standing unscathed in front of her made her angry. She had been living in fear during her time in the city, and seeing Zhang Lan unharmed only intensified her sense of injustice.
“Hey, Zhang Lan, you’re not dead yet? I thought you were dead, so I could burn some paper money for you,” Wang Mei said.
Wang Mei’s words were infuriating, and Wang Juan, who was nearby, was displeased. “What are you saying, sister-in-law? Is that how you should talk?”
Wang Mei glanced at her sister-in-law. Although she wasn’t very respectful, she didn’t dare to provoke Wang Juan.
“Sister-in-law, you should go home and make your dinner. I still have unfinished business with this jinx. You have no business here.”
Zhang Lan was not one to engage in verbal sparring, but Wang Mei’s words made her tremble with anger. “Wang Mei, stop looking for trouble. I haven’t even asked you for the medical expenses from last time. Are you planning to take my life today? Fine, come and try.”
Zhang Lan’s unexpected reaction caught Wang Mei off guard. The usually honest person who never talked back was now standing up for herself?
Zhu Qiyu pulled her daughter, suggesting that she should stop before things got out of hand. But Wang Mei was not as level-headed as her mother. Having been publicly humiliated by someone she had always suppressed, her face darkened.
She raised the hand that had been bitten by Wang Qian and aimed a slap at Zhang Lan. Wang Juan quickly intervened, knowing that her sister was not one to fight. If things escalated, it would be a disaster for the whole family.
Seeing the situation turning sour, Wang Qian rushed over and, without considering the circumstances, bit Wang Mei on her backside. Although it was a bit unorthodox, given her petite stature, it was the only way she could intervene. She held onto Wang Mei’s leg tightly and refused to let go.
The scene was chaotic, and no one expected a little child to bite someone. Wang Mei let out a cry when she saw Wang Qian biting her.
Startled, the elderly lady turned around and saw Wang Qian biting her daughter’s backside. Overcome by concern for her beloved daughter, she disregarded her status as the grandmother and grabbed Wang Qian’s hair from behind to make her let go. Zhang Lan, seeing the child being mistreated, rushed to help. Wang Juan hurried over to hold the elderly lady’s arms to prevent her from hurting the child, while Zhang Lan tried to pry her mother-in-law’s hands off the child’s hair.
As the four of them were in a standoff, Wang Zhenhe and his elder brother came down from the mountain. Seeing the situation, they rushed over with their hoes. When they arrived, he saw his child with a red face, biting his elder sister’s backside, while her hair was being pulled by her mother. His hearts ached, and with tears in his eyes, he rushed over.
Wang Zhenhe firmly grasped the elderly lady’s hands, causing Zhu Qiyu to feel a sharp pain. She released her grip, but her hands still held the hair that had been pulled out.
Seeing her younger brother approaching, Wang Juan’s heart finally eased a bit. She didn’t let go of Wang Mei’s hand, and her niece still hadn’t released her grip.
“Daughter, let go. Your father is here. No one can bully your mother,” Zhang Lan said tearfully as she held her child.
Wang Qian finally let go, with traces of blood at the corners of her mouth. Zhang Lan slowly stood up, but this time, Wang Qian wasn’t going to let Wang Mei off the hook. She was determined to hold this malicious woman accountable for her actions.
“Aunt, you are truly a great aunt to us. Last time, you weren’t able to kill my mother, but this time, are you planning to finish the job? Fine, go ahead and try to hit my mother again. If you dare lay a finger on her, I’ll make you regret it. I’ll bite you to death,” Wang Qian said.
Wang Mei’s backside was still hurting, and she was crying out in pain. Just as she was about to retaliate after being freed, Wang Zhenhe held her back. This time, he didn’t hold back and gave her a resounding slap. “Wang Mei, I warned you last time. If you dare to provoke my family again, it seems you haven’t learned your lesson. And mother Let me tell you, If you dare to lay a hand on my family again, I won’t hesitate to be an unfilial son. You are worse than an animal. Daughter, Let’s go home.”
Today, even the elderly lady was scolded by her son, and she sat down on the ground and began wailing. She uttered harsh and cursed words, and Wang Shenhai couldn’t bear it. He had seen the whole scene earlier. “Mom, both of you are out of line. It’s unbearable to have fights every day. Wang Mei, you have been bullying your sister-in-law. This time, you got what you deserved. Go home now. You are embarrassing yourselves in front of so many people. Wife, help your mother go home.”
Wang Mei was stunned after being slapped by her younger brother. However, when her elder brother spoke, she cried even louder, and her cries echoed through the street. People who had finished work gathered around to watch. Wang Zhenguo and the elderly man, Wang Deshan, who had come back with their hoes, witnessed the scene.
The elderly man knew that his wife was often the instigator of trouble, so he didn’t say anything. He instructed his youngest son to take his elder daughter home. Wang Juan also helped her mother-in-law go home. When they arrived home, Wang Deshan inquired about the situation and learned what had happened.
Wang Deshan was so angry that he wanted to slap his daughter. “Wang Mei, do you have any sense of propriety? Last time, Zhang Lan almost died because of you, and you still haven’t learned your lesson. If it were someone else, you would have been hit with a shovel. This time, you got what you deserved. Wang Zhenhe was being lenient with you. You have no right to wail like that.”
He then turned to the elderly lady. “And you, how could you lay a hand on our granddaughter? If you do this again, I won’t be able to stay in this house. We’ll get a divorce. I can’t bear to live in this family. You are all heartless. I can’t stand it. How could I have given birth to such heartless people?”
This was the first time the elderly lady had heard such harsh words from her husband. She had never been reprimanded like this before. She looked at her husband with tears in her eyes. “Husband, I felt pain when I saw our daughter being bitten. I was just too anxious. I didn’t think much. It hurt my heart to see our daughter hurt. You see, she bit our daughter. Look, there’s blood on her backside. You didn’t even speak up for her. At the very least, you should have comforted her. She was injured while visiting us.”
The elderly lady began to cry softly. The elderly gentleman was troubled. He couldn’t understand why there couldn’t be a few peaceful days in their home. He squatted at the door, lit a cigarette, and smoked in frustration. Wang Zhenhai and his wife left when they saw that there was nothing they could do. Wang Mei was still in pain, and the elderly lady had to get up to find medicine to treat her. As she applied the medicine, she scolded, “That little rascal. Her teeth are so sharp. Why didn’t she lose a couple of teeth? Endure it, daughter. I’ll go make dinner for you.”
Wang Zhenhe carried his daughter back home, feeling furious after hearing the whole story from his mother and sister. He felt that a slap was too lenient. He had never seen such an ominous person who actually wished for his wife’s death. This was the elder sister he had respected for so many years. She was truly a close relative, just like his mother. They were cut from the same cloth and had no redeeming qualities.
Wang Qian felt drained after the confrontation with Wang Mei and the elderly lady. Nestled in her father’s arms, she felt physically and mentally exhausted, and she began to doze off.
“Daughter, don’t sleep. I’ll massage your scalp when we get home. The hair will grow back,” Wang Zhenhe said.
Wang Zhenhe noticed the hair in his mother’s hand and knew it was his daughter’s. He felt pained, but he couldn’t bring himself to hit his mother. If he could, he would have done it already. It was his own mother, and he couldn’t understand how she could treat his daughter this way. He couldn’t comprehend how he had become her son.
Seeing his daughter looking sleepy, Zhang Lan asked with concern, “Qianqian, do you feel unwell?”
“Tired. Want to sleep,” Wang Qian replied.
It was unusual for her daughter to want to sleep during the day unless she was tired. Something didn’t seem right. She had been fine just a moment ago. “Qianqian, tell Mom what you did at home today.”
At this point, Wang Qian wanted to speak, but she couldn’t control her own head, and she fell into a drowsy state.
