Chapter 3: A Kiss Before We Speak
“Give me a kiss before you say anything,” Huo Nanchuan’s voice was low and deep, carrying a chilling aura, sharp and imposing.
Lu Xiangxiang was startled, her shoulders trembling. She had grown up with Huo Nanchuan, they were childhood sweethearts, they knew each other inside and out.
Moreover…
She had been reborn, lived two lifetimes.
In both lives, Lu Xiangxiang had never seen Huo Nanchuan like this.
His icy gaze pierced through her, sharp and ruthless. He was protectively shielding the woman behind him.
Was it because Chi Wan was his wife?
Impossible!
This shouldn’t be happening!
Lu Xiangxiang couldn’t believe what she was seeing. It should be her who was marrying Huo Nanchuan, it should be her who would become the wife of the future tycoon!
Not this lowly Chi Wan!
“Brother Nanchuan, you have to listen to me! What I said is true! Absolutely true! Chi Wan really did something with that man named Song Jing…”
This time, before Lu Xiangxiang could finish her sentence, Zhang Yue’e, who was standing beside her, couldn’t take it anymore.
She tightly gripped the bamboo broom in her hand and swung it at Lu Xiangxiang, hitting her while shouting,
“You little b*tch! You have a loose tongue! You can’t say anything good!”
“I’m not going to hold it against you for what happened in the past, but now that our boss finally got married, you come here to cause trouble!”
“Are you jealous of our boss’s happiness? I’ll teach you to talk nonsense! I’ll teach you!”
“It hurts! Auntie, it hurts!”
Lu Xiangxiang was hit repeatedly, jumping and retreating. She had come back with a triumphant attitude, but she couldn’t imagine that her current failure was due to this.
She could only flee in disgrace.
Pathetic and laughable.
Just then, the wooden door in front of Chi Wan suddenly slammed shut.
It was Huo Nanchuan who closed it.
Huo Nanchuan’s gaze shifted away from Lu Xiangxiang, no longer bothering to look at the ridiculous scene outside.
Chi Wan stared blankly at the man beside her, her mind filled with Huo Nanchuan’s words just now.
“We’ve been sleeping together.”
And the firm, resolute look in his eyes when he said it.
At that moment, the man stood before her.
His broad shoulders shielded half of Chi Wan’s body, blocking the ranting Lu Xiangxiang, as if protecting her.
And then…
When she first opened her eyes, the man’s strong body was pressed against hers, their bodies tightly intertwined.
So…
It was true that she and Huo Nanchuan had been sleeping together…
It wasn’t a lie, it was a solid fact.
As soon as the thought crossed her mind, Chi Wan’s face flushed red, her flawless skin tinged with a delicate peach blush.
And those watery, bright eyes.
Seductive and captivating.
Huo Nanchuan snapped out of his daze, his thin lips parted, about to speak, but his eyes fell on Chi Wan’s delicate face, and he suddenly stopped.
He had only met Chi Wan a few times during their arranged marriage.
She had always kept her head down, looking timid, not even daring to look at him.
Her eyes were misty, her spirit worn down by the hardships of life in the countryside.
Huo Nanchuan had never imagined…
That when his new wife’s eyes were bright, she was such a beautiful, delicate woman.
The man’s dark eyes were deep.
The Adam’s apple in his throat moved slightly.
His tongue felt an unfamiliar dryness.
While Huo Nanchuan was lost in thought, Chi Wan was thinking about something else.
She had transmigrated into this book, unable to call upon heaven or earth for help.
She was a miserable female intellectual youth sent to the countryside, and she had no idea what was happening to her family.
And then she looked at her own body.
Thin and weak, with just a few ounces of flesh on her chest and hips, she was almost skin and bones.
She probably couldn’t even lift a hoe.
In this remote countryside, she had no way to support herself.
The only person she could rely on was the man in front of her, her new husband – Huo Nanchuan.
The future tycoon!
She was going to hold onto this golden thigh!
As she pondered, Chi Wan’s clear eyes sparkled, her gaze shifting, agile and vibrant.
She made up her mind and snapped out of her thoughts.
Suddenly, she leaned towards Huo Nanchuan.
Her slender fingers, one grasping the man’s arm, the other on his shoulder.
Huo Nanchuan was so tall.
Chi Wan had to stand on her tiptoes, her long legs stretched taut, her chin raised slightly, to barely reach Huo Nanchuan’s cheek.
Plop.
She kissed him.
Huo Nanchuan was completely taken aback, he hadn’t expected Chi Wan to kiss him.
He could still feel the soft touch of her lips on his cheek.
Light.
Soft.
Leaving behind a warm temperature.
And when Chi Wan leaned in, he could almost smell the faint fragrance on her.
Suddenly, Huo Nanchuan’s face burned hot, and if his skin wasn’t already dark, he would have seen the redness.
Even his chest was pounding.
Chi Wan not only kissed him, but also gave him a faint smile.
Her soft voice came through,
“Nanchuan, thank you for standing up for me.”
“Song Zhiqing and I were just sent to the same production brigade after going to the countryside together.”
“I have no feelings for him, and there’s no romantic relationship between us, let alone running away together last night. It was all Lu Xiangxiang’s lies.”
Chi Wan emphasized her words, explaining the matter carefully.
Her attitude was firm, her expression serious.
She was even a little meticulous.
She didn’t want to have any disagreements with him about this in their future marriage.
The fingers that had been gripping Huo Nanchuan’s arm slowly slid down.
Her white fingertips gently grasped the man’s rough palm.
Chi Wan tilted her head, looking up with clear eyes, and asked again, “Nanchuan, do you believe me?”
Huo Nanchuan’s brow furrowed slightly.
The man’s deep eyes seemed low and resolute.
He asked in a deep voice, “Does it matter if I believe you?”
“Of course it matters.”
Chi Wan answered without hesitation, almost blurting it out.
As soon as the words left her lips,
Gurgling.
Chi Wan’s stomach let out a hungry growl.
The sound was clear and loud.
Both she and Huo Nanchuan heard it clearly.
It wasn’t really Chi Wan’s fault, but the original owner had lived a very hard life.
Before, in the production brigade, because of food shortages, they ate potatoes and sweet potatoes, and their stomachs were full of acid.
Yesterday was her wedding day, and the bride was tossed around.
Even though she smelled the food, she had to pretend to be dignified and couldn’t eat a bite more.
Last night, she fainted after a short while…
Chi Wan had practically been starving for a day and a night.
In the midst of the gurgling sounds, her face turned bright red, and she rubbed her stomach.
She said softly, “I’m hungry…”
Huo Nanchuan looked at her embarrassed expression and a subtle smile appeared on his lips.
He said warmly, “I’ll go out and cook right away, just wait a little longer.”
As he spoke,
The man went back to the bed and quickly put on his clothes.
He was tall and straight, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, a typical inverted triangle figure, which would have made him a male model decades later.
Even the old-fashioned clothes.
When worn by Huo Nanchuan, they had a unique style.
Chi Wan couldn’t help but be captivated.
At this moment, Huo Nanchuan reached out and touched under the pillow, then pulled out something.
He handed it to Chi Wan.
And said,
“Xiao Wan, now that we’re married, I’m your husband, and I’ll definitely treat you well.”
“This is something our family has passed down to our daughters-in-law.”
“Keep it safe.”
After giving his instructions, Huo Nanchuan turned and went out, his steps hurried, as he was busy cooking for Chi Wan.
