Chapter 38: The Magical Snow Cream
“Of course I was joking.”
Chi Wan followed Huo Chuchun’s words, refusing to admit that she was a twenty-year-old who still kicked off her blankets in the middle of the night.
She took the blanket back from Huo Chuchun.
She tidied the bed.
She smoothed out the soft quilt with its red floral pattern, placing it on the inside of the bed.
But just as one wave subsided, another arose.
The blush on Chi Wan’s face had not yet faded when she heard a voice from behind.
“Sister-in-law, there seems to be a smell in your room.”
Smell?
What smell?
Could it be the lingering scent from when she and Huo Nanchuan were about to become husband and wife?
That was hours ago.
It shouldn’t be… right…?
Chi Wan denied it in her heart, but couldn’t help feeling nervous, her heart pounding wildly.
The temperature of her face continued to burn.
Fortunately…
Behind her, Huo Chuchun lightly wrinkled her nose, sniffing the air.
Then.
Huo Chuchun said excitedly, “Sister-in-law, it’s a fragrance! Your room smells so good!”
Chi Wan heard this.
She couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
“It’s a fragrance…”
She muttered softly, relieved, and finally turned to face Huo Chuchun.
During this movement.
Chi Wan’s peripheral vision caught sight of the snow cream on the bedside table.
She instantly understood what was going on.
At the same time.
A thought that had crossed her mind before resurfaced.
“Xiao Chun, come here, don’t stand there, sit here.”
Chi Wan patted the edge of the bed, pulling the nervous and fidgety girl to sit beside her.
They sat close together.
One was alluring and charming, the other was delicate and cute, like real sisters, whispering to each other.
Chi Wan picked up a jar of snow cream, opened the lid, and placed it in front of Huo Chuchun.
She said, “Xiao Chun, smell it, is this the fragrance?”
Huo Chuchun leaned forward, her small nose close to the porcelain white jar, her clear eyes looking at the smooth cream, and she gently sniffed it.
She immediately nodded vigorously, her eyes sparkling.
“Yes, yes, Sister-in-law, it’s this fragrance.”
“It’s not floral, but it smells better than flowers, soft, delicate, and with a hint of milk.”
“Sister-in-law, you have this fragrance on you too.”
Chi Wan did have a fragrance on her.
But it wasn’t just the smell of the snow cream, but the natural body fragrance she developed from bathing in the Spirit Treasure Space every night.
She had applied a little snow cream today, so the scent of the snow cream was stronger, leading to Huo Chuchun’s misunderstanding.
The fifteen-year-old girl was full of curiosity about new things.
She had never seen such a small and beautiful porcelain jar, nor had she ever seen snow cream.
Huo Chuchun’s eyes sparkled like a puppy’s, and she asked shyly, “Sister-in-law, what is this?”
“This is called snow cream, it’s specifically for applying to the face, it can not only whiten, but also moisturize.”
“Like in winter, when the cold wind blows, your skin will crack, but if you apply this, it won’t crack, and it will make your skin look smooth.”
“You smell fragrant because I applied snow cream.”
Chi Wan explained the uses of the snow cream in detail, like a patient older sister opening up a new world to the naive girl.
She even took a little snow cream and dabbed it on Huo Chuchun’s finger.
“Xiao Chun, try it.”
Encouraged by Chi Wan’s eyes, Huo Chuchun used one hand to gently spread the snow cream on her finger.
The milky white liquid smoothed out quickly.
It was soft and smooth.
The dry skin on her finger instantly became supple, as if coated with a layer of shiny honey.
Even in the dim light, the skin was shimmering.
Huo Chuchun could hardly believe the soft touch on her finger, looking at the gleam, she exclaimed in wonder.
She also brought her hand to her nose and sniffed it hard.
“Wow, Sister-in-law, this snow cream is so soft, it spreads so easily, my hands smell so good.”
“Xiao Chun, do you like it?”
“I like it! Such a good thing, I of course like it.”
Huo Chuchun’s answer was frank and direct, her delicate face beaming with happiness.
Just a little bit of snow cream was enough to make her so happy.
Chi Wan’s heart unknowingly softened.
She continued, “Sister-in-law has another brand new jar of snow cream here, if you like it, I’ll give it to you.”
“Sister-in-law, no need—”
Huo Chuchun hurriedly wanted to refuse.
She knew this novel thing must be expensive.
She was already happy to be able to smell it, touch it, and use a little bit of it.
But Chi Wan had made up her mind to give Huo Chuchun a jar of snow cream.
And not just one jar of snow cream.
Chi Wan seemingly got up to get something, but actually turned her back to Huo Chuchun and touched the jade bracelet on her right wrist.
In an instant.
A seven-colored white light flashed through Chi Wan’s mind.
The next second.
She had entered the Spirit Treasure Space, where the seasons were always spring.
“Master, you’re here! You came so early today!”
The Space Envoy, Xiao Tuanzi, appeared like a bubble spirit from the air.
Then the round-headed, round-bodied little creature began to circle around Chi Wan, excitedly expressing her happiness.
Chi Wan touched her head and said hurriedly.
“Xiao Tuanzi, I’m sorry, I don’t have time to accompany you this time, I’ll play with you properly next time.”
Speaking.
Chi Wan rushed towards the side of the Spirit Spring Creek.
She held a jar of snow cream in one hand and took water from the Spirit Spring Creek with the other.
She added a few drops of Spirit Spring water to the snow cream, drop by drop.
Chi Wan had once asked Xiao Tuanzi if the things brought out from the Spirit Treasure Space could also retain their magical spiritual energy in the real world, and Xiao Tuanzi had said no, because spiritual energy was unique to the Spirit Treasure Space.
But Chi Wan still wanted to try.
The Spirit Spring water could heal the wound on her palm and make her skin white and smooth.
So maybe it could also fade the dark red birthmark on Huo Chuchun’s face.
Even if it couldn’t be completely eliminated, even if it just faded a little, it would be a good thing.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
That’s how it was decided.
A glimmer of determination flashed in Chi Wan’s eyes.
She looked at the porcelain white jar in her hand, the crystal clear water droplets had perfectly blended with the milky white snow cream.
With a flash of thought.
Chi Wan didn’t even have time to say goodbye to Xiao Tuanzi before she was back in the real world.
She opened her eyes and adjusted to the surrounding light.
Then, as if nothing had happened, she continued to walk back to Huo Chuchun’s side and sat down.
In reality.
Huo Chuchun only saw Chi Wan turn her back to her and look for something, it seemed like she had been looking for ten seconds, without any difference.
She didn’t know that Chi Wan had “left” for a while.
“Xiao Chun, when Sister-in-law first came to this family, she didn’t give you a welcome gift either. Today, I’ll just borrow this opportunity, although this snow cream was given to me by your elder brother, I’ll give it to you now.”
Chi Wan said.
She stuffed the porcelain white jar of snow cream into Huo Chuchun’s hand.
Huo Chuchun heard that it was a gift from Huo Nanchuan to Chi Wan, so she couldn’t accept it.
But Chi Wan was strong and decisive.
She not only gave it to Huo Chuchun, but also opened the jar on the spot, regardless of everything, took some of the milky cream, and immediately applied it to Huo Chuchun’s face.
Huo Chuchun felt the difference on her face and immediately became nervous, not daring to move.
She was afraid of ruining such a good thing, and even more afraid… afraid… afraid… afraid that Chi Wan would be scared.
The hair that hung down, covering the dark red birthmark.
It was like a terrifying ghost, even when she looked in the mirror, she didn’t dare to look at it for too long.
Huo Chuchun’s small hand, which was resting by her side, unknowingly clenched into a fist, her sharp nails digging into her soft palm.
Chi Wan had long seen Huo Chuchun’s nervousness.
But she remained calm and unhurried.
Her long, slender fingers, dipped in the moisturizing snow cream, gently stroked Huo Chuchun’s face, bit by bit.
From her forehead, to her cheeks, to her chin…
The left half, gently and softly, was all covered.
Chi Wan didn’t rush to continue.
She looked into Huo Chuchun’s eyes and asked softly, “Xiao Chun, can I do the other side too?”
Huo Chuchun was so nervous that she couldn’t even speak, her eyes trembled with uneasiness.
The hair that hung down, the face that was deliberately concealed.
And the secret that she wanted to hide for the rest of her life.
Even Huo Dongzhi, who was closest to her, couldn’t touch it.
But…
Chi Wan looked at her expression, so gentle, so gentle…
Chi Wan looked at her eyes, warm and sunny, like the winter sun…
And the gentle touch when Chi Wan stroked her face, as if she was taking care of a baby…
Huo Chuchun had never been treated so gently by anyone.
Her mother, Zhang Yue’e, was very good to her, but the women in the village were used to working in the fields and doing rough work, and they weren’t meticulous in their nature.
She could take care of Huo Chuchun’s food, clothing, housing, and transportation, but she couldn’t take care of the girl’s sensitive heart.
At this moment.
Huo Chuchun looked at Chi Wan and gently nodded.
She was willing to expose her whole self to Chi Wan.
After obtaining Huo Chuchun’s permission, Chi Wan gently lifted the hair on the other side of her face with her fingertips.
The large, dark red birthmark, from her forehead to her temple, and even to below her eye, was completely exposed to Chi Wan.
Chi Wan acted as if she hadn’t seen anything.
Her expression was calm.
Her expression was still gentle.
She took a little more snow cream.
Bit by bit, she applied the fragrant, soft liquid to the skin that was dominated by the dark red birthmark.
She used her fingertips to gently and softly stroke it.
Huo Chuchun nervously watched Chi Wan, even her breathing stopped.
But unexpectedly.
She didn’t see fear, fear, or disgust on Chi Wan’s face.
Chi Wan treated her as if she was looking at a normal person.
“Sister-in-law, you… you aren’t scared?”
Huo Chuchun asked in surprise.
Chi Wan chuckled, “Scared? What am I scared of? Are you a man-eating monster?”
“No… no… this…”
Huo Chuchun was flustered and didn’t know how to explain, her mind was in a mess, and her words were a little incoherent.
“They… the girls in the village who are the same age as me… they’re all scared of me…”
“They say… they say I’m ugly… and they say I’ll bring bad luck if I get close to them…”
“They…”
In Huo Chuchun’s memory, she had heard even more hurtful and insulting words from the time she was little, she didn’t even want to say them in front of Chi Wan.
Chi Wan ignored it.
The snow cream had already been applied.
But her fingertips were still gently stroking the dark red birthmark on Huo Chuchun’s face.
She coldly snorted, as if to herself.
“They? What are they? What they say is all nonsense, all bullshit.”
“If I were to say, this birthmark is a flower that Heaven sent to our Xiao Chun.”
“Heaven must have loved our Xiao Chun so much, so when you were born, it sent this flower along with you.”
Huo Chuchun listened to Chi Wan’s words.
She was both shocked and stunned.
She was first shocked that such a gentle person like Chi Wan would actually swear.
Then, she couldn’t believe it…
She stared blankly, “A… flower?”
“Of course it’s a flower! Big red petals, growing on your face. None of us have it, only Xiao Chun has a big red flower.”
Chi Wan said confidently.
The edge of the dark red birthmark was like the petals of a flower.
The girl’s sparkling eyes, like the pistil.
It really was… a flower.
Even Huo Chuchun couldn’t help but touch her birthmark.
Actually, she knew in her heart that Chi Wan was deliberately comforting her.
But just thinking that the ugly birthmark that had made her feel inferior for over ten years was actually a flower that Heaven loved her so much to give her.
The painful thorn in her heart, as if it was pulled out at once.
Chi Wan observed the change in Huo Chuchun’s expression, watching her eyes go from fear to calmness, and then to a slight gleam.
She knew that her words had worked.
She felt a little relieved and continued.
“Xiao Chun, remember what Sister-in-law said just now? This snow cream has the effect of whitening the skin, you apply it every morning and evening, let’s try, maybe it will have an effect.”
Huo Chuchun heard this.
Her round puppy eyes brightened a little more.
She held the porcelain white jar of snow cream in her hand, turning it over and over, as if she had seen great hope, and she nodded vigorously.
“Yes, Sister-in-law, I will apply it every day.”
…
Thus.
Chi Wan had actually only completed half of the task Huo Nanchuan had given her.
The other half.
Chi Wan couldn’t bring herself to say it, she could only wait for Huo Chuchun to bring it up herself.
She thought that today’s progress was already good.
Unexpectedly, when the two of them turned off the lights and lay down under the covers,
Chi Wan heard a soft rubbing sound.
It was Huo Chuchun, grabbing the blanket, rubbing it against her side, and getting closer to Chi Wan.
In the darkness.
She spoke softly, “Sister-in-law, are you asleep? I have something else I want to tell you…”
