Chapter 13
“Yaoyao, this is really unfair of you. We made a promise to each other—neither of us can betray the other.”
Li Yukun twisted his voice, feeling frustrated. He had wasted several months on this fat woman, all in the hope of getting some money out of her.
But he soon realized that her family was dirt poor. Later, he heard that she actually had a childhood engagement with the Li family from the compound, and that immediately sparked an idea.
He had painstakingly convinced her to bring up the engagement with the Li family.
His plan was already set—once she got the betrothal gift money, they would elope. On the way, he would find an opportunity to swindle the money from her and then dump her.
However, things took an unexpected turn. A few days ago, she had an accident and fell into a pond, which delayed everything until now.
Ye Yao’s expression darkened, and the last shred of doubt in her heart was finally cleared.
So, it was all because of this scumbag!
“Heh, really? Ever since I fell into the water, my memory has been a little fuzzy. So, we actually made such a promise?”
Hearing her say this, Li Yukun’s anger subsided slightly.
“Of course! Have you forgotten? You told me you wanted to be with me for the rest of your life.”
He responded impatiently, not even wanting to look at her.
She was so fat—it completely disgusted him.
Ye Yao chuckled, her eyes narrowing into slits.
“Oh? So that’s the kind of relationship we had. Then, do you love me?”
Li Yukun sneered inwardly. Back when they were together, she had never dared to ask him such a question. Now, she seemed to have grown some courage.
“Of course I love you! What, you don’t believe me? I could even carve out my heart to show you!”
Ye Yao’s smile grew even brighter. “I’m not really into bloody stuff like that. But I’m curious—what exactly do you love about me?”
Li Yukun put on a deep, affectionate expression, but inside, he was cursing nonstop.
“You’re gentle and obedient. Even though you’re a little plump, you have a kind heart and don’t look down on me. In our village, we say that marrying a chubby wife is a blessing—they’re good at bearing children.”
Even he was almost touched by his own words. Now she would surely be overjoyed and tell him how wonderful he was.
Sure enough, Ye Yao sighed. “Wow, I never realized I had so many good qualities.”
Li Yukun nodded. “Yes, to me, you’re the best woman in the world.”
“If I’m so great, then why do we need to elope? Why not just marry me openly and properly?”
Ye Yao blinked innocently, looking genuinely confused.
Li Yukun’s expression froze. Since when did this fat woman become so sharp?
“Uh… well… you’re from the compound, and I’m just a poor village boy. We’re from different backgrounds…”
For the sake of money, he had no choice but to keep playing along.
Ye Yao giggled. “That’s true, but my family situation in the compound is special. If I marry you, it would be easy—my mom definitely wouldn’t object.”
“You still have an engagement with the Li family. How could I…”
“That engagement? If you hadn’t brought it up, it would have been long forgotten. Look at me—do you really think the Li family would sincerely accept me? If I ask them to cancel it, they’d be more than happy to do so.”
Ye Yao calmly refuted all his excuses, waiting for his reaction.
Li Yukun’s face turned red, then white, then green, and sweat started forming on his forehead.
Was… was this fat woman serious?
