Li Family.
“Did that child really say that?”
Li Guoxiong turned his head instinctively to look at Li Cheng, who was sitting nearby after listening to Shen Yun’s words.
When he returned, his mother had already gone to the Ye family. She told him it was about the marriage agreement, but he didn’t show any sign of happiness or disappointment.
This son of his was truly difficult to read.
Shen Yun nodded. “Yes, that child said she would withdraw from the engagement in six months.”
Li Guoxiong fell into silence. Before she returned, he hadn’t expected things to turn out this way.
After a brief moment, he looked at Li Cheng again.
“Li Cheng, what do you think?”
Previously, he had made the decision to agree to this marriage without asking for his son’s opinion. He knew his son wanted to break off the engagement.
Li Cheng’s face was expressionless, and even his voice seemed cold.
“If she really wants to withdraw from the engagement, why wait six months?”
She was just stalling for time.
“I think that child has her own considerations.”
Shen Yun responded and continued, “Actually, after talking in-depth with her today, I feel we may have misunderstood her before. She’s not as bad as the rumors say.”
She was simply stating the facts, without any bias.
“In that case, let’s follow what she said.”
Li Cheng quickly ended the topic. He had no interest in what kind of person Ye Yao was.
Soon, only Li Guoxiong and Shen Yun remained in the living room.
“Our son’s temperament is nothing like mine.”
Shen Yun murmured with a trace of sadness.
So cold and distant, not even showing a bit of closeness to his own mother.
Li Guoxiong coughed dryly and happened to meet her resentful gaze.
“Why are you looking at me like that? I’m not like that either!”
“If not for you insisting that boys should be independent from an early age, sending him to the countryside to toughen up at just three years old, he wouldn’t have turned out this way…”
“Alright, alright, it’s all my fault. But you can’t deny that our son is outstanding now, can you?”
In this argument, Li Guoxiong was always the one to compromise.
Shen Yun was amused by him. “Praising your own son like this—aren’t you embarrassed?”
“He’s your son too! That brat… I wonder what kind of girl it will take to tame him in the future.”

Nighttime.
A slender figure hurriedly walked out of the compound.
At that moment, Li Yukun leaned against a tree at the edge of a small grove, his eyes fixed on the nearby path.
He and Ye Yao had agreed to meet at nine. He arrived five minutes early, assuming she would already be there waiting for him. But to his surprise, she was nowhere in sight.
“Damn fatty, learned to play hard to get now, huh…”
He sneered disdainfully and let out a drunken hiccup.
“Once I get the money, let’s see if I still bother with you…”
Tired of standing, he plopped down on the ground, cursing under his breath the whole time.
Just as he was getting impatient, thinking Ye Yao had stood him up, a figure finally appeared on the path.
Li Yukun squinted and immediately felt something was off. He rubbed his eyes and looked again—still not right.
That fatty would never have such a slender figure!
Afraid something was wrong, he wobbled to his feet and backed deeper into the grove to observe.
If that damn fatty dared to trick him, he wouldn’t let her off easily!
