Chapter 54
“You must be the owner, right? I’m here to have some clothes made.”
Before the man could speak, Ye Yao took the initiative.
At that moment, a man and a woman walked down the stairs.
“If you’re here to get clothes made, then go pick out some fabric first. Xiao Xu, take the customer over.”
The man gave a calm order. Compared to the apprentice, his attitude was completely different.
The young apprentice quickly wiped the sweat from his forehead, no longer daring to drive Ye Yao away. He gestured toward the counter.
“Customer, this way, please.”
Ye Yao didn’t hold back and walked over boldly.
“Boss Cai, the measurements are ready. The style must be exactly as I requested.”
The woman’s voice was gentle but carried an undeniable authority.
Cai Qingyuan looked troubled. Her request was completely unheard of, yet she claimed it was the latest overseas fashion.
She was also a long-time, high-spending customer of the shop, so even though he found her design unreasonable and had suggested modifications—only to be rejected—he still had no choice but to accept the order.
“I’ll do my best.”
As for how the final product would turn out, he really couldn’t guarantee.
“Customer, this isn’t how things work here. Our tailors are highly experienced. Just tell them the style you want, and they’ll make sure you’re satisfied.”
After personally escorting the woman out of the shop, Cai Qingyuan returned to see the apprentice, red-faced again, arguing with that chubby girl.
Since the moment she arrived, she had already disturbed the other customers. He hadn’t expected the situation to continue.
“What’s going on? Did she not find suitable fabric?”
He could already tell that this girl probably couldn’t afford much. She likely had no idea how expensive their shop was before stepping inside.
Before Ye Yao could respond, the apprentice quickly explained, “Master, she picked out the fabric, but insists on designing her own style. None of the tailors are willing to take her order.”
“Designing her own style?”
Cai Qingyuan raised an eyebrow.
This was a tailor shop, with professional tailors who custom-made styles based on each customer’s unique features. If they simply followed someone else’s design, it would lower their prestige—something they wouldn’t do.
His expression turned serious as he looked at Ye Yao.
“Customer, every shop has its own rules. If you insist on making your own design, you can buy fabric elsewhere and make it yourself.”
After all, poor families usually knew some basic sewing skills. The clothes she was wearing now were obviously homemade.
He thought he was giving her an easy way out—letting her leave with her dignity intact.
But once again, Cai Qingyuan miscalculated. Not only did Ye Yao refuse to leave, but she also spoke seriously.
“I can’t make it myself because I don’t have a sewing machine at home. Also, the style I want is a bit complex and needs a professional tailor.”
“Or… could you lend me a sewing machine? I’d be willing to pay a rental fee.”
The weather was getting colder, and her current clothes made movement difficult. She really needed a proper sports outfit.
She had already picked the fabric—choosing quality over price—and confirmed that it was within her budget.
But still, having new clothes made felt like a luxury to her at the moment.
