Chapter 60
“I’m a cleaner, that’s why I’m here.”
Ye Yao hurriedly explained. If the person outside mistook her for some kind of pervert sneaking into the men’s restroom, that would be a disaster.
The voices outside fell silent, but she heard the sound of the door handle turning.
Ye Yao let out a heavy sigh of relief—she was finally “saved.”
Click.
The moment the door opened, Ye Yao didn’t even think—she grabbed her bucket and mop, ready to leave.
“Than—Wait, what the hell? It’s you?”
The polite word “thanks” was immediately replaced by a curse. The moment she saw who had opened the door, she felt utterly defeated.
What kind of grudge was this? What kind of karma?
Of all people, it had to be Li Cheng!
Li Cheng clearly hadn’t expected to see her either, and for a moment, his expression showed obvious surprise.
His deep gaze quickly landed on the cleaning tools she was holding.
“I… Just pretend you didn’t see me,” Ye Yao muttered.
For a moment, she truly felt resigned. This was the second time—and both times, she was caught in her most embarrassing state.
“You do realize I’m a professor here,” Li Cheng said.
Ye Yao, who had already walked past him, suddenly froze in place.
What did he mean by that?
“Don’t bother trying, it’s useless,” he added.
Ye Yao: …
Damn it, what exactly was he implying?
Did he think she deliberately came here just to get close to him?
Just like last time, his tone was so certain. Where did he get this confidence?
“I had no idea! I’m just helping Aunt Wang with her work!”
She felt the need to make things absolutely clear.
Li Cheng, of course, didn’t believe her. He let out a cold laugh.
“I saw you outside the classroom earlier.”
Uh…
Ye Yao wished she could slap herself twice. Why had she gone over there earlier?!
“Think whatever you want.”
She threw the words at him coldly, then turned and walked away.
This was way too embarrassing—she couldn’t stay here another second.

“Oh, heavens, why are you messing with me like this? If I ever come back here again, I’m a pig!”
Ye Yao grumbled to herself as she walked out of the school. What happened today honestly felt like a bad dream.
Suddenly, a commotion erupted behind her. She instinctively turned to look.
Surrounded by a group of young students, Li Cheng’s face was still the most striking among them.
She couldn’t deny it—he had every reason to be proud. He was always the center of attention, always shining.
And she…
Shaking off her thoughts, she turned to cross the street.
At that moment, a little girl, no more than four or five years old, suddenly dashed onto the road.
Ye Yao’s breath caught in her throat. In her rapidly constricting pupils, she saw a large truck speeding toward them.
Honk! Honk! Honk!
The blaring horn pierced the air, but the little girl, seemingly frozen in fear, didn’t move—she just stood there, paralyzed.
Gasps and screams erupted around her.
Ye Yao’s mind went blank. She didn’t even have time to think—her body had already moved.
She sprinted forward, her overweight frame shockingly agile in this moment.
She had to push the little girl out of the way—she had to!
Screeeech!
“Ahhh!!!”
Tires screeched against the pavement. Girls in the crowd screamed, some covering their eyes in terror.
Ye Yao held the little girl tightly in her arms, letting her own body take the impact as they crashed to the ground.
The friction burned. It hurt. But it wasn’t the kind of pain that came from broken bones.
As soon as she opened her eyes, she knew she was still alive.
Gasping for breath, her first instinct was to check the little girl she had protected…
