Chapter 62
When Ye Yao got home and found the house empty, she let out a huge sigh of relief.
She quickly went back to her room, changed clothes, and walked to the big pot. As expected, there was food left inside.
Since her right hand was unusable, she had to grab a spoon and eat with her left hand.
Not long after she finished eating, Zhang Qiufeng returned.
“Hmm, I cleaned it very thoroughly,” Ye Yao responded to her worried questioning, though she didn’t mention that she had actually been cleaning toilets.
“That’s good. My Yaoyao has really grown up. You can even work and earn money now.”
Zhang Qiufeng was so happy that her eyes turned red, completely unaware that something was off with Ye Yao.
Ye Yao casually avoided her gaze. When Zhang Qiufeng was done talking, she finally spoke up, “Mom, I’m a little tired. I want to sleep for a while.”
Her arm was burning with pain, and she couldn’t show it—she was barely holding on.
“Alright. Do you want to take a bath before sleeping? I’ll heat up some water for you.”
After all, she had been working all day, and the weather was hot.
“No need, I already washed up earlier,” Ye Yao quickly refused. If she took off her clothes now, her injuries would be exposed.
Hearing this, Zhang Qiufeng didn’t think too much about it and just let her go to bed.
“Mom, Auntie Wang said she needs your help for a few days?”
Before heading to her room, Ye Yao asked, trying to keep her voice calm.
“She said at least three or four days. Why? If you’re too tired, I can go instead tomorrow.”
Ye Yao screamed internally but kept a “calm” expression as she replied, “I’m not tired.”

That evening, when Li Guoxiong saw Dongpo pork on the dinner table, he immediately knew who had been there.
“Why didn’t Xiaoying stay for dinner?”
“I asked her to, but that girl just left after dropping off the thermal lunchbox.”
Shen Yun served rice for the father and son, then deliberately placed the Dongpo pork closer to Li Cheng.
“Xiaoying is really thoughtful. She knows you like this dish, so she brings it over regularly.”
The Li family had always had a good relationship with the Huang family, and Li Cheng and Huang Ying had grown up together. Shen Yun had even wondered before if they might end up together, but after so many years, she had never noticed any particularly strong feelings from Li Cheng toward Huang Ying, so she eventually gave up on the idea.
However, Huang Ying still seemed to care a lot about him.
“I only casually mentioned it once,” Li Cheng said expressionlessly.
That was three years ago, when he had dinner at the Huang family’s house. At the time, Mother Huang asked him if he liked her cooking, and out of politeness, he could only say he did.
“But it’s still a kind gesture,” Shen Yun said with a smile as the three of them began eating.
“Why are there red eggs?”
Li Guoxiong noticed the basket of red-dyed boiled eggs and couldn’t help but ask.
Usually, in the compound, people only boiled red eggs to celebrate joyful occasions, sharing them for good fortune and happiness.
“Wang Lin’s daughter-in-law gave birth at the hospital today—a baby boy. They were so happy that they delivered eggs to every household in the afternoon.”
“That really is good news. You should find time to visit them,” Li Guoxiong reminded her, as she was the one who usually managed these social matters.
“Wang Lin’s family?”
Li Cheng suddenly spoke, confirming the name.
“Yes, why?”
Shen Yun looked at him in confusion. He never paid attention to things like this.
Li Cheng shook his head. “Nothing,” he said and continued eating.
So that girl really was helping Auntie Wang with work, just like she said.
