Chapter 65
“This medicine is for external application, and this one is for oral use—three times a day, one packet per dose, after meals. If you still have recurring fevers after three days, I suggest you go to the hospital for a detailed check-up.”
“Thank you, doctor. How much does it cost?”
Ye Yao took the medicine with a somewhat stiff expression.
She hadn’t expected to faint today and had only brought a few coins with her.
Sister Liu shook her head. “No charge. You can go now.”
Ye Yao was momentarily stunned but quickly realized something and thanked her again.
Stepping out of the infirmary, she felt much better. Though she was still weak, the chills were gone, and her mind was clearer.
Suddenly, she remembered that she hadn’t finished her work yet.
She had been unconscious and receiving an IV for almost two hours—she was definitely going to get scolded by the supervisor.
With that thought, she hurried toward the women’s restroom. But just as she reached the entrance, she saw a middle-aged woman in a janitor’s uniform carrying the cleaning tools she was supposed to be using, walking out.
Ye Yao frowned. She had taken this job to help Auntie Wang, and if she didn’t do it properly, she wouldn’t mind getting scolded herself, but she couldn’t let Auntie Wang take the blame.
Feeling anxious, she turned around—only to see the supervisor walking toward her.
“Supervisor Wang, I wasn’t slacking off on purpose, I was—”
“Girl, no need to explain. Why didn’t you tell me you were feeling unwell? I’ve already arranged for someone else to take over Auntie Wang’s job for the next two days. You don’t need to come back anymore.”
Ye Yao: …
She stared at the supervisor’s face—it didn’t seem like he was angry.
“Alright, hurry home and rest.”
The supervisor even showed concern for her.
Ye Yao was completely baffled. She had only interacted with him for two days, but he had never seemed like such a reasonable person. And how did he even know she was sick?
But since she was no longer needed here, she could finally go home and get some proper rest.

“Editor-in-Chief Li, where did you go? Xiaoying and I have been waiting for you forever!”
That afternoon, Li Cheng finally appeared at the newspaper office, and Zheng Lu immediately greeted him with a cheeky grin.
“I went to Dongda University.”
“Dongda? But today’s Tuesday—you don’t have any classes.”
Zheng Lu blurted out his comment casually. He was probably the only one here who dared to pry into Li Cheng’s personal affairs so openly. Meanwhile, Huang Ying, sitting nearby, perked up and listened attentively.
“I forgot something at school yesterday, so I went back to get it,” Li Cheng explained naturally before heading into his office.
Huang Ying visibly relaxed, her gaze following his back.
At this moment, Zheng Lu walked over to her with a knowing smile. “Feeling relieved now?”
This girl’s feelings were so obvious—it had been years already. If she had just confessed earlier, things would’ve been much simpler. But instead, she kept hesitating, and it was frustrating even for him to watch.
Huang Ying flashed him a bright smile. “Don’t worry, I’ll treat you to a meal.”

Ye Yao returned home and ate a few bites of food. Of course, she didn’t dare tell Zhang Qiufeng that she was sick. She only mentioned that the supervisor had reassigned Auntie Wang’s job to someone else.
Zhang Qiufeng seemed a little disappointed—after all, it was still an honest way to earn money.
Too exhausted to do anything else, Ye Yao collapsed onto her bed.
Illness comes like a landslide—no matter how much she tried to push through, she simply couldn’t.
