Chapter 74
“Fat girl, are you looking at Li Cheng?”
Zheng Lu’s words made Huang Ying’s face darken even more. Just as she was about to say something, Ye Yao suddenly walked toward them.
She instinctively turned to look at Li Cheng.
There was no disgust or disdain on his face as she had imagined—his expression was as blank as ever.
Li Cheng watched as Ye Yao approached and grinned at him.
But the smile was obviously forced, completely different from the genuine one she had shown the children earlier.
“Thanks for what you did before.”
Ye Yao expressed her gratitude, her tone relatively sincere.
Zheng Lu and Huang Ying both looked surprised. What happened before?
Li Cheng raised an eyebrow as she finished speaking and turned to leave.
“I saved your life.”
A casual ‘thank you’—was her life really that cheap?
He still vividly remembered all the things she had said about him in the infirmary.
Ye Yao: …
So, just saying thanks isn’t enough?
She knew it—this man had ulterior motives when he saved her.
He was probably planning to use this as an excuse to cancel their engagement.
“Cheng-gege, what’s going on? Since when did you and… Ye Yao become so close?”
Huang Ying clearly sensed something was off between them. She hated this feeling.
Even though that fat girl Ye Yao wasn’t even qualified to be her rival…
Li Cheng obviously had no intention of explaining anything to Huang Ying. He simply looked at Ye Yao with a serious expression.
Ye Yao pursed her lips, thinking, I absolutely can’t let him get what he wants.
Six months is six months!
“Then…”
She reached into her pocket, rummaging around. Under Li Cheng’s gaze, she pulled out a handful of White Rabbit milk candies.
“Here, take this as a thank-you gift. That should be enough, right?”
This should shut him up.
Li Cheng didn’t move.
But Zheng Lu couldn’t help letting out a snort of laughter.
Did this fat girl just treat Li Cheng like a little kid?
Seeing no reaction from him, Ye Yao didn’t hesitate—she grabbed his hand, stuffed the candies into his palm, and let go.
“We’re even now.”
If he dared to bring up saving her life again, she’d really lose it.
Zheng Lu’s eyes widened as he watched Ye Yao leave, completely unscathed.
Didn’t she just grab Li Cheng’s hand?
Isn’t Li Cheng the kind of person who absolutely hates being touched?
Why didn’t he react?!
“This Ye Yao is way too much! Who does she think she is?!”
Huang Ying’s reaction was even more extreme, snapping at Ye Yao with no concern for appearances.
Zheng Lu quickly tugged at her sleeve, giving her a look to calm down before turning back to Li Cheng.
After all, the person involved hadn’t even said anything yet.
Li Cheng’s face remained tense. He exhaled quietly and started walking away again.
Zheng Lu was dumbfounded. Could it be that because Ye Yao is his fiancée, he’s especially tolerant of her?
It wasn’t impossible, but the thing that really shocked him was the candy.
Not only did Li Cheng not throw it away, but he even put it into his pocket along with his hands.
“Is this really our usual Editor-in-Chief Li?”
After sighing in disbelief, Zheng Lu suddenly realized something and quickly shut up.
Sure enough, Huang Ying’s expression had turned absolutely ugly.
Clearing his throat, Zheng Lu tried to console her. “Li Cheng was probably just giving that girl some face.”
Huang Ying pressed her lips together tightly. She knew that Cheng-ge was someone who was cold on the outside but warm on the inside.
But she couldn’t accept that someone else was able to ‘experience’ his kindness too.
Meanwhile, at the entrance of a nearby alley, Zhao Qingqing and Wang Lanlan stood there, watching everything unfold.
“That fat pig! How dare she openly flirt with Brother Li like that?! She has no shame!”
