Yu Sheng stared at the three words “sleep with him” and felt a slight temptation in her heart.
But it was just a fleeting thought. Thinking of Shen Yao’s cold and restrained face, Yu Sheng felt that this was far too difficult to even consider. Besides, if Shen Yao was really that easy to sleep with, then it wouldn’t be challenging at all, which would make her lose interest instead.
She yawned, glanced at the time, and realized it was getting late. After turning off her phone, she took a shower and went to bed.
During breakfast, Yu Li brought up her street racing incident again. He seemed worried and once again sternly reminded her that she was absolutely forbidden from racing—especially not on Akina Mountain—acting as if Yu Sheng would secretly defy him.
To be honest, he was spot on.
Yu Sheng was far from the obedient girl she appeared to be.
At that moment, however, she simply lowered her gaze and drank her soup, looking utterly well-behaved and harmless. Yet, only she knew that the rebellious, restless gene in her blood was roaring wildly, like it was about to break free. The thrill, the love for adventure, and the chase of extreme speed were carved into her bones—how could they just disappear?
Still, Yu Sheng blinked innocently and obediently replied, “I understand, Dad.”
Yu Li nodded in acknowledgment.
Apart from that brief episode, the atmosphere at the dining table remained unusually harmonious.
At home, all of Yu Wei’s breakfasts were personally prepared by their mother.
It was said that Yu Wei had poor health as a child. Back then, their mother would personally cook all kinds of nutritious porridge for her, a habit that had persisted for eighteen years and continued to this day.
As a wealthy housewife, their mother was extremely attentive to her younger daughter. She personally handled everything—from food to clothing—without leaving it to others. She had over a dozen different nutritious soups prepared for Yu Wei, rotating them periodically to prevent her from getting bored. Each soup was specially tailored to Yu Wei’s body condition after consulting a nutritionist.
After Yu Wei finished her soup, their mother continued to fuss over her.
“The weather is too hot now. Make sure to wear a thin outer layer to shield yourself from the sun when you go out.”
Yu Wei pouted and whined, “Mom, I already put on sunscreen. Plus, I’m always driven everywhere—when do I ever get exposed to the sun?”
Their mother’s voice was filled with warmth, “Sunscreen plus a light cover is double protection. The sun is harsh these days, so it’s always better to be extra careful.”
It was a mother’s most patient kind of concern. The two spoke softly, full of warmth, until their mother finally seemed to remember that she also had an older daughter.
Turning to Yu Sheng, she looked a bit awkward.
All her energy had been poured into making nutritious soups for Yu Wei, so naturally, she wasn’t as attentive to Yu Sheng. Since everyone’s constitution was different, the soups made for Yu Wei weren’t necessarily suitable for Yu Sheng. In the end, she could only awkwardly say, “Xiao Sheng, the summer heat is intense. Remember to take care of your sun protection.”
When speaking to her younger daughter, she was careful, detailed, and endlessly reassuring—afraid Yu Wei wouldn’t take her words to heart. But with her elder daughter, whom she hadn’t seen in twenty years, she suddenly found herself at a loss for words.
Twenty years of separation wasn’t something that could simply disappear.
Yu Sheng recalled the plot of the novel. The original character had deeply longed for family affection, hoping to feel the warmth of her biological parents. But reality was cruel.
No matter what she did, she could never compare to Yu Wei, who had spent eighteen years by their parents’ side. The original Yu Sheng had tried to get closer to them, but it was useless. As long as Yu Wei was present, their attention would always be on her. Whenever Yu Sheng made even the slightest progress in closing the gap, something would happen to Yu Wei, drawing their parents’ focus back to her.
The original Yu Sheng was saddened but didn’t dwell on it for too long. When their father’s company later went bankrupt, she took the initiative to suggest a marriage alliance to help the family through its crisis.
Yet, despite her sacrifice, people praised Yu Wei’s independence and strength while dismissing Yu Sheng’s efforts as cheap.
The truth was, Yu Sheng’s desire to contribute to her family was stronger than anyone else’s.
After marrying into the Gu family, she endured three years of cold treatment. It wasn’t until Yu Wei asked Gu Yi why he had been married for three years without children that Gu Yi came home, remained silent for three days, and then—after seemingly coming to some realization—finally touched Yu Sheng, allowing her to conceive successfully.
As Yu Sheng recalled the novel’s frustrating plot and compared it to the stark difference in treatment between her and Yu Wei, she merely smiled casually. Looking at her mother, she simply responded, “I understand, Mom.”
Once the family members had all gone out, Yu Sheng decided to head out as well.
Her father told her not to race—did that mean she would actually listen?
She let out a soft chuckle, grabbed her pepper spray, and left the house.
Her destination? A motorcycle dealership.
She bought herself a heavy-duty motorcycle.
Truthfully, compared to sports cars, she preferred the thrill of racing on a bike.
The sensation of her long hair whipping in the wind, the way her entire body nearly lifted off the bike due to the immense force, as if she were about to take flight—that was what intoxicated her.
She loved the feeling of controlling speed with her own hands.
Right after purchasing the bike, she was eager to test it out.
After strapping on her helmet, a few strands of black hair peeked out from beneath it. She then swung a leg over the motorcycle, revved the engine to full power, and shot forward.
Since she was in the city, she couldn’t be too reckless.
The roar of her modified engine was incredibly eye-catching. As she rode, she felt completely at ease, watching the scenery blur past as she sped toward the unknown.
At that moment, Shen Yue was lazily leaning against his sleek black motorcycle. He pulled out a cigarette, lit it with a crisp flick of his lighter, and took a slow drag.
His usual slicked-back, bold silver-gray hair wasn’t styled today, leaving his bangs to fall naturally over his brows, softening his sharp features.
It made him look a little less wild, a little more approachable.
He had come here for business, but now that he was done, he had nothing else to do. Just as he was debating whether to call his buddies out for a gathering, the roaring sound of a motorcycle engine caught his attention.
He narrowed his long, sharp eyes and looked ahead, spotting a brand-new, gleaming motorcycle speeding toward him.
A smirk crept onto his face.
He casually flicked away his half-smoked cigarette, crushed it under his boot, then pulled out a pair of oversized Gentle Monster sunglasses, slipped them on, and effortlessly swung a leg over his bike.
He waited.
Yu Sheng wasn’t going at full speed. As she rode closer, she spotted the man on the bike—his eye-catching silver-gray hair made him impossible to miss.
That hair color was hard to pull off. On most guys, it would look ridiculous, but on a handsome man, it only made him look even more striking.
Yu Sheng merely glanced at him before shifting her gaze away.
But just as she did, she caught something out of the corner of her eye.
A taunt?
Even from a distance, she could feel it.
The next moment, her eyes widened slightly.
That man had turned his thumb down at her.
A blatant challenge.
Yu Sheng’s competitive spirit flared.
She watched as the man fastened his helmet, covering his silver-gray hair, his sunglasses hiding his expression. Even so, his sharp, handsome features were still vaguely visible.
Before she could take another look, he had already revved his engine.
Yu Sheng focused all her attention and maxed out her speed.
The race was on.
His bike had a superior engine, giving him an edge. But Yu Sheng was crazier, more reckless.
Her blood was burning.
The factor called madness was like fire meeting dry wood, burning fiercely at this moment. Her excitement grew, and her hair flew more wildly.
Not far ahead was the market, bustling with people, but Yu Sheng had no intention of slowing down.
Shen Yue had already reduced his speed, but seeing Yu Sheng still charging forward, he could hardly believe it. This person was even crazier than him!
At first, he thought the one racing here was just another friend from their circle.
But it wasn’t until he caught sight of the strands of black hair flying outside the helmet that he realized—it was a woman.
Her hair was smooth, dark, and glossy, yet this softness was completely at odds with the wild and passionate energy she exuded.
She seemed like a blazing fire, easily igniting the passion of those around her.
Right now, he felt the urge to yank off his helmet and yell at her. The market was right ahead—was she not afraid of causing an accident?
The market was packed, mostly with elderly people who came for the cheap goods and fresh produce. It was their favorite place to shop.
Yu Sheng, of course, noticed the growing crowd, yet she still had no plans to slow down.
Shen Yue had no choice. He tore off his helmet and shouted at her, “Slow down! I give up! I admit defeat, alright?!”
Even though Yu Sheng was wearing a helmet, she could still hear him. When she heard Shen Yue admit defeat, she finally began to slow down.
She didn’t take off her helmet but instead habitually raised her left hand and flipped off the man behind her.
That middle finger was her response to his earlier thumbs-down gesture of provocation.
