Marrying a Military Officer in the Countryside: Having You as My System Is My Blessing – Chapter 23

Chapter 23

Gu Wenhai quickly moved to rescue the person from the water.

The rescued person was sent to the hospital. Everyone was shaken by what happened—jumping into the river over a minor conflict? They decided to keep their distance from Sun Qiaoqiao.

She was too much to handle.

A messenger arrived:
“Sister-in-law Gu, hello. The leader sent me to inform you that the commander was injured during a mission. I’m here to take you to him.”

“Jiang Huaijing is injured?”

“Sister-in-law, don’t worry. The surgery was successful, but he hasn’t woken up yet. Let’s head to the city hospital now.”

“Alright.”

Gu Nian got into the car and left. Along the way, she remained unusually calm. She had given Jiang Huaijing some spiritual spring water, so he would be fine.

Upon arriving at the city hospital, she saw Commander Zheng and a few other military leaders. She greeted them one by one.

Zheng Rongrong was also present. Since Jiang Huaijing had not yet woken up, Commander Chen called everyone away, leaving space for the couple.

Once they were alone, Gu Nian carefully examined Jiang Huaijing’s injuries—his leg was wounded, but there were no other injuries.

She discreetly took out some spiritual spring water from her system and poured a little onto his wound.

The spiritual spring water wouldn’t cause any pain.

Since he wouldn’t be waking up anytime soon, Gu Nian went to fetch some hot water. On her way, she ran into Zheng Rongrong.

“Gu Nian, you should divorce Jiang Huaijing. You two are really not suited for each other.”

“To be honest with you, Jiang Huaijing injured his leg this time. My brother has already decided that once he recovers, he will be transferred to the military district’s cultural department. His allowance will be reduced.”

“Besides, his leg will have lasting effects. Do you really want to spend your life with him? You should just get a divorce.”

“Miss Zheng, we will not be getting a divorce. You should give up on that idea.”

“If you agree to divorce Jiang Huaijing, you can name any condition you want.”

“I won’t. I won’t. I won’t. What can you do about it?”

Right after speaking, Gu Nian suddenly felt dizzy.

At that moment, a now-awake Jiang Huaijing stepped out and saw Gu Nian swaying unsteadily. He quickly rushed forward and caught her in his arms.

“Zheng Rongrong, what are you trying to do?”

Zheng Rongrong looked innocent—she hadn’t even done anything yet, and this woman was already pretending to faint.

“It wasn’t me! This has nothing to do with me!”

“Huaijing, it’s not her. I just felt a little dizzy,” Gu Nian clarified.

She had a clear sense of right and wrong—she wouldn’t falsely accuse a good person, nor would she easily forgive a bad one.

“Come on, I’m taking you for a check-up.”

“No need. You just woke up, and your leg is still injured. Go back and rest. I can go by myself.”

“No way. I won’t be at ease unless I take you myself.”

Unable to argue with Jiang Huaijing, Gu Nian had to follow him to get checked.

At the end of the examination, both of them were stunned.

The doctor told them that Gu Nian was pregnant. She was already more than a month along, and the dizziness was due to anemia.

She needed to eat more nutritious food.

Gu Nian was completely dazed—she was pregnant?! Why hadn’t anyone informed her about this in advance?

“Doctor, is my wife really pregnant?”

“Yes, absolutely. The baby is very healthy. There’s no need to worry. Just come in for check-ups if she feels unwell.”

They returned to the hospital room, still in shock.

Jiang Huaijing was the first to react—he was going to be a father!

“Wife, we’re having a baby!”

“Yes… we’re having a baby.”

They were filled with happiness, as sweet as honey.

Jiang Huaijing still needed to stay in the hospital for a few more days to monitor his leg injury.

During this time, Gu Nian stayed by his side. But rather than her taking care of him, it felt more like he was taking care of her.

Jiang Huaijing ran around doing everything for her, even surprising the nurses. Who was the actual patient here?

A few days later, it was time for Jiang Huaijing to be discharged.

Commander Zheng and the others came again on the day of his discharge.

After some polite conversation, Jiang Huaijing took Gu Nian back to the military family compound.

As soon as they got home, Jiang Huaijing went to the military district to request leave.

His wife was pregnant—he had to be by her side.

The military had already planned to give him time off to recover from his injury.

On top of that, he received a 1,000 yuan bonus for his recent mission.

Jiang Huaijing happily returned home with the bonus.

However, Sun Qiaoqiao was not happy. She had heard that Vice Battalion Commander Guo was originally supposed to go on that mission.

If he had gone, the 1,000 yuan bonus would have been hers!

Sun Qiaoqiao began plotting in her mind.

Meanwhile, Gu Nian’s school found out about her pregnancy and granted her leave, hiring a temporary teacher to cover her classes.

News spread quickly in the military family compound—Gu Nian was pregnant, and Jiang Huaijing had taken leave to care for her.

The first visitors were Sister-in-law Xu and Li Pandi, both bringing gifts.

“Gu Nian, this is wonderful! You’re joining the ‘moms club’ now!”

“We both have experience. If you have any questions, just ask us.”

“Do you crave sour or spicy food? Have you felt nauseous?”

Their endless questions left Gu Nian overwhelmed.

After finally seeing them off, other military wives came to visit, and she had to entertain them one by one.

Once they all left, Gu Nian suddenly felt hungry.

“Huaijing, I’m hungry.”

“What do you want to eat? I’ll make it for you.”

“I want something sour.”

“I’ll get it for you.”

Fortunately, Sister-in-law Xu had thoughtfully brought a jar of dried apricots.

As she ate the apricots, Gu Nian felt her appetite return.

For dinner, Jiang Huaijing made beef noodles, and Gu Nian ate an entire big bowl.

“Honey, I sent a telegram to my parents. Mother wants to come and take care of you. What do you think?”

“It’s still early. There’s no need for her to come now. No point in making her travel back and forth.”

“It’s too early for that. Isn’t Susu getting married in three months? Let’s have her come then.”

Jiang Huaijing agreed—he would follow her decision.

Gu Nian hadn’t expected him to act so fast—he had even informed their family already.

With no school to attend, she was getting bored staying at home.

Luckily, she had books to read. She read anything and everything, finishing multiple books a day.

Meanwhile, Jiang Huaijing was already busy preparing the baby’s nursery.

He insisted on using pink decorations because he was convinced they were having a daughter.

Gu Nian didn’t want to crush his enthusiasm. Boy or girl, she would be happy either way.

Sister-in-law Xu occasionally dropped by to chat.

“Gu Nian, I have good news to share!”

“What is it?”

“Two good pieces of news! Which one do you want to hear first?”

“If they’re both good, why not just tell me together?”

“Because they’re about different things! One is about me—I got a part-time job helping out in the cafeteria.”

“Congratulations! What’s the other one?”

“Zheng Rongrong is getting married.”

“Who is she marrying?”
