Chapter 19: Selling Computers in the Tech City (2/2)
Instead, he proposed a collaboration where he wouldn’t take a salary but would earn commissions.
“Sister Lan, my family is in the county town, so I can only spare time to come here on Saturdays and Sundays.”
“I don’t need a base salary. I’ll take a commission for each computer I sell and a fee for each one I repair.”
“After all, if I can’t sell anything, you won’t lose anything.”
“Plus, I can help you with free promotion. Either way, it’s a win for you. Is that okay?”
For Sister Lan, this was definitely a beneficial deal.
After pondering for a while, looking into Zhao Qingfeng’s sincere eyes, she finally nodded in agreement. Turning to an employee fixing a computer, she called out, “Little Kun, stop what you’re doing and bring the price list and flyers for him to see.”
Little Kun, a young man in his twenties, was wearing a pair of thick black-rimmed glasses.
After handing Zhao Qingfeng the price list, Lan Jie gave a detailed explanation.
“First, familiarize yourself with the prices.”
“The commission for branded computers and assembled ones is different.”
“For branded computers, I can give you a total commission of 8 percent, and for assembled ones, it’s 6 percent.”
“As for computer components, it’s about 5.5 percent. Can you accept these?”
Zhao Qingfeng nodded; the commission rates were quite fair.
Considering the current market prices for branded complete systems, which were at least above 5000, and assembled computers being a few hundred cheaper, in general, he could earn at least about 400 for each computer sold.
Little Kun then handed him a stack of flyers. After placing them down, he went back to tinkering with a customer’s computer that had been brought in for repair.
Zhao Qingfeng didn’t rush to start promoting. After watching for a few minutes, he noticed that Little Kun was dealing with a simple issue of a blue screen due to overheating.
“Little Kun, is it fixed yet? The customer will come to pick it up this morning!” Lan Jie called out while keeping accounts.
Little Kun was already sweating with anxiety. His skills were just average, and if not for Lan Jie giving him the opportunity to learn while working, finding a job would have been difficult.
Moreover, this was his first repair job.
If his first attempt failed, Tech City didn’t tolerate idlers, and he might lose his job.
“What’s going on? I’ve changed the memory stick, reformatted the hard drive, and done the virus scan, but it’s still showing a blue screen⦔
In desperation, Little Kun looked at his watch; there was less than an hour left until the agreed time to return the computer.
Should he start over?
There wouldn’t be enough time.
Frustrated, he turned to Zhao Qingfeng, who was smiling, thinking, “Are you laughing at me?”
Zhao Qingfeng remained silent, just pointing at the fan.
Little Kun was startled.
The fan?
Oh!
He had changed everything but hadn’t considered the temperature.
Realizing his oversight, he quickly replaced it with a higher-power fan.
After a few minutes of testing, the computer no longer blue-screened. He then assured Lan Jie, “It’s fixed now. The issue was insufficient fan power causing overheating. I’ll test it for another half hour, just to be sure.”
But as he was about to secretly thank Zhao Qingfeng, he had already left with a thick stack of flyers.
Zhao Qingfeng, with the wisdom of his age, understood that one should never harm others’ interests.
After all, Little Kun was an official employee, and he couldn’t just snatch business in front of him, right?
Nor could he pretend to be clueless just because he was a high school student.
A fool may have foolish luck, but an idiot does not.
He had to ensure a stable income channel before the eve of the university entrance examination to accumulate his first pot of gold.
