After hanging up the phone, feeling her burning forehead and the dryness of her eyelids, Shen Nanzhi knew without needing a thermometer that she definitely had a fever.
Enduring the dizziness, she got up from the bed.
She rummaged through the medicine cabinet, found a fever-reducing pill, and swallowed it with some cold water. After that, she grabbed the remote control to close the curtains before returning to bed to lie down again.
With a fever, she felt cold all over.
Shen Nanzhi wrapped herself in the blanket, forcing herself to empty her mind, trying not to think about anything, and gradually drifted off to sleep.
The next day at seven o’clock.
Shen Nanzhi was awakened by the alarm clock.
After turning it off, she raised her hand to touch her forehead.
The temperature had already come down.
But her head still hurt, and she felt a dizzy sensation, as if her head was heavy and her feet were light.
Shen Nanzhi picked up her phone and looked for her class schedule, going through her classes for the day. Finally, she opened her contacts and dialed Gu Qinghe to ask her to help take a sick day.
Upon learning that she was ill, Gu Qinghe’s voice became tense.
With no one else in her apartment, Gu Qinghe worried that Shen Nanzhi wouldn’t take care of herself and immediately wanted to come over.
Shen Nanzhi stopped her, “There’s no need to come over; my fever has gone down. I have cold medicine here. I think I just overexerted myself these past few days, and a day of rest should do the trick.”
Gu Qinghe couldn’t argue with her and repeatedly urged her to rest well.
Shen Nanzhi agreed, and after hanging up the phone, she went out to drink a cup of warm water before returning to bed for another nap.
When she woke up again, it was already the afternoon.
She no longer had a fever, and her headache had eased considerably.
The dizzy feeling had also dissipated.
Feeling too lazy to cook, she ordered takeout to make do for a meal.
After eating, she sat on the balcony sofa, basking in the sun, and casually opened Weibo. As soon as the page loaded, the glaring headline of a trending topic jumped into her view.
The screen displayed news about the goddess of the screen, Su Wu, spotted late at night at ‘Sheng Ye,’ having been filmed entering Jiang Tingxu’s exclusive private room there.
The heat was still rising, and even the leaked video had been shared over ten million times.
Shen Nanzhi’s fingers paused on the screen.
Seeing the explosive news on Weibo, she didn’t even click on the video and exited the app without further browsing.
The gossip about Jiang Tingxu and Su Wu had been highly monitored by major entertainment media. Su Wu being photographed in Jiang Tingxu’s private room would undoubtedly be a front-page story across various social media platforms.
Losing interest in checking her phone further, she turned off the screen and was about to toss it aside when the ringtone rang again.
Looking down at the screen.
When she saw the name flashing on the screen, a hint of surprise crossed her eyes.
She pressed the answer button, just as she was about to ask what was wrong.
On the other end, Zhang Lan, the secretary responsible for liaising with Shen Nanzhi at Shen Group, spoke in a flustered and anxious tone.
“Miss Shen, something happened.”
Zhang Lan was a veteran of Shen Group, known for her calm and capable demeanor. Even the biggest crises could hardly stir her emotions.
While others in the secretary team panicked during emergencies, Zhang Lan had long since thought through all the necessary responses and quickly organized measures for implementation.
She had been chosen personally by Shen Nanzhi’s father to assist her in the future. After Shen’s father passed away, Zhang Lan had entered Shen Group headquarters early on, responsible for familiarizing herself with all important projects to prepare for supporting Shen Nanzhi in taking over.
For all these years, Shen Nanzhi remembered Zhang Lan as steady and composed; this was the first time she had called her with such an anxious and panicked tone.
Shen Nanzhi felt a tightening in her chest.
“What happened? What’s going on?”
Zhang Lan quickly replied, “This quarter, two major projects at the headquarters have encountered problems. The partners maliciously withdrew their investments and joined forces with other competitors to suppress Shen Group, severely affecting the company’s shares.”
“Moreover, these two projects involve significant funding. As of today, the stock prices of the headquarters and the overseas subsidiaries have dropped more than ten percent. If this continues, it could threaten the company’s financial chain…”
Shen Nanzhi’s expression turned serious.
After listening to Zhang Lan’s words, she instinctively asked her:
“Have you contacted my brother?”
