Chapter 164. Jurassic (18) 24 Hours Countdown: Volcanic Rock.
Standing on the top of the mountain and looking far away, you can see a series of red and dark brown hillsides of different heights.
The rain dissipated in mid-air due to the scorching hot currents, and the vegetation on the hillsides was sparse. The varying shades of red rock were almost blinding under the illusory sun.
In contrast to plants, there are many dinosaurs.
One reason for this was the high concentration of fire-element spiritual energy in the air, comparable to the continent where Ye Mo had entered the copy, attracting many dinosaurs with fire-element talents, particularly pterosaurs.
Watson had grown to nearly 10 meters in length, with a beautiful and majestic row of triangular bony plates along his back. The spikes on his tail were one of his weapons, and combined with his speed and water-elemental abilities, he could now take on groups of small to medium-sized carnivorous dinosaurs.
He swallowed a water-element spirit stone, and gradually, the spiritual energy within his body churned for a few minutes before being slowly smoothed out by the order of his cultivation technique. The stinging and aching sensations transformed into a warm and comfortable feeling, and his stomach felt full. “Volcano? Half forest, half volcanic rock, this Jurassic period is truly perplexing.”
“The Jurassic forests have mutated significantly, like the illusory sun, but some basic elements are still recognizable from modern Earth, such as the fact that the core of the illusory sun always includes a sun.”
Ye Mo slowly recalled, “The continent I was on before had a flat terrain with few mountains, almost no high mountains. The forest vegetation was mainly tropical evergreen trees and deciduous broad-leaved trees, with a large number of woody ferns and large-leaved herbaceous plants. It was probably a tropical rainforest area close to the equator.”
Watson instantly understood her meaning: “If we had a map of this Jurassic world, we might discover that the continents are completely different, but the latitude, longitude, and Earth’s rotation and revolution patterns are still similar.”
Ye Mo nodded: “The abnormal environment of the continent I entered in the instance stemmed from changes in the sun and atmosphere, while the sparse vegetation and abnormal high temperatures here originate from underground.”
The fact that the air contains so much spiritual energy suggests that there are likely many treasures underground, such as fire-element spirit jade. The possibility of future volcanic eruptions is also quite high, which inevitably brings to mind one of the theories about the destruction of the Jurassic biosphere.
The two decided to rest for a while.
Ye Mo created a protective circle on the ground and retrieved a freshly hunted gold-wood Corythosaurus from her spatial storage to replenish her energy, while Watson collected and studied the nearby rocks and plants.
He has forgotten his career as a doctor, evolving towards biology and geology.
Due to the decrease in herbivorous dinosaurs, there weren’t many plants at the boundary between the volcanic rock and forest areas, but the variety was surprisingly rich, which delighted Watson.
“Roar!”
Ye Mo leaped, tearing apart several pterosaurs that had foolishly attacked her, causing a small earthquake upon landing. She threw one of the living ones to Watson as a test subject.
Watson had become obsessed with Jurassic plants.
Take, for instance, a black shrub with beautiful patterns, devoid of spiritual energy, generally avoided by herbivorous dinosaurs, inconspicuous during the day, and found everywhere in the forest.
Based on its habitat, Watson initially thought this black shrub preferred dark and damp environments, but he discovered it was also abundant in the volcanic rock area.
He plucked a small twig and placed it in his mouth.
Instantly, Watson saw the black shrub emit a bright black and white fluorescence, revealing it to be a water-light elemental plant with a small amount of rare light-elemental energy.
Moreover, the surrounding environment appeared different to his eyes. He could see the world filled with scattered points of light, with red light points being the most abundant in the air, many fire-elemental and earth-elemental plants on the ground, and also unique wind-elemental and lightning-elemental points, among others.
As for the animals, Ye Mo seemed to have entered a two-dimensional, multicolored background, with rainbow-colored light spots all around her. Many light spots in the air were drawn to her, making her dazzlingly eye-catching.
“A spiritual energy distribution map,” Watson exclaimed in surprise. “Maria, look at this spirit-seeking shrub.”
Ye Mo only saw an ordinary black plant on Watson’s back. Only by holding this plant in hand could one see a different world.
Moreover, Ye Mo and Watson’s visions were different. Ye Mo could see even smaller light spots, a capability that seemed to correlate with individual physique and talent.
The function of shrubs is time-limited. When its own light energy disappears, it returns to being an ordinary plant. The space has a certain spiritual energy protection function and can store plants.
This type of magical shrub has a small amount of spiritual energy, and eating it is no different from eating grass, but it also gives Watson and Ye Mo a new perspective. Many Jurassic plants have more than just nutritional value.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have enough time, equipment, knowledge, nothing is enough for in-depth research.” Watson used the magical shrub to observe two more ordinary plants and confirmed that they were truly very ordinary.
Ye Mo said, “There are millions of survivors who have entered the Jurassic instance. Someone will discover something. Once we leave the copy, we can buy more on the forum and conduct research back home.”
“That’s right, perhaps this is one of the important reasons why herbivorous dinosaur survivors exist. Many survivors do not have wood spiritual roots, or perhaps they are not dominated by wood spiritual roots, but they are herbivorous dinosaurs. When selecting people, the app not only looks at spiritual roots, but also other talents. “
Watson smiled slightly at his teammate’s remarks, flicked his tail, and continued his research. With the magical shrub, researching anything became much more convenient.
When searching for functional plants, the amount of spiritual energy in functional plants is uncertain, but they often have relatively reduced attributes. The colored spiritual energy seen with the shrub is very special.
Sure enough, after a short while, Watson discovered several other unique plants.
There was a herbaceous plant that was particularly useful to him, resembling grass with small, orange-red fruits that were non-toxic and edible, containing little spiritual energy.
However, after consumption, it could, for a limited time, restrict the impact of high-temperature fire spiritual energy on the body, effectively helping to avoid high temperatures and fire.
He named it: “Fire-avoidance grass.”
Ye Mo praised: “Concise and to the point.”
So Watson continued to come up with many good names. While he researched plants, Ye Mo replenished her energy and then dug holes in the ground.
She found many dinosaur bones underground, even though many more had been reduced to ash by the high temperatures.
It was now very clear that this was an active volcano.
An active volcano refers to a volcano that has erupted at least once in the past 10,000, 5,000, or 2,000 years. The mountain range before them was formed by volcanic eruptions, as evidenced by the underground energy, indicating that the volcano has erupted more than once or twice.
Continuing to dig deeper, after exceeding 300 meters, they finally found some low-grade fire-element spirit stones. The quantity wasn’t much, and the quality wasn’t high, but they were still good for a small snack or two.
Digging further, past 800 meters, the fire-element spirit stones disappeared.
This suggests that these spirit stones were not originally formed underground but were brought here by the lava during volcanic eruptions or solidified here, only to be reburied in the soil millions of years later.
Watson, gazing at the sea-like volcanic rock mountains, said, “The energy during a volcanic eruption must be immense, which is why it could carry spirit stones so far.”
Because the volcano is in danger of erupting at any time, the two people’s plan to move forward must be changed. After all, they cannot predict when the volcano will erupt. Sometimes it is more difficult to defeat nature than to fight.
Ye Mo and Watson chose to take the active volcano as the core for the next journey. They may only meet Wang Xue outside the copy.
One day, two days…
The two found many special plants at the junction of the forest and the volcano. These plants have strange effects, such as blood recovery grass and strong fruit.
The blood recovery grass is similar to a spiritual potion, which can directly eliminate fatigue and restore magic power. The strong fruit grows on trees hundreds of meters high. It is red and the size of a basketball. Eating it will temporarily increase the strength of the creature.
These spiritual fruits had different effects on different people, with the majority having a smaller effect on stronger individuals. However, like the ordinary spirit-seeking plant, some took an unconventional path.
Watson believed that these were the primordial divine products he had encountered in the post-apocalyptic Copy—the legendary immortal herbs mentioned by tribal priests, even earlier than immortal herbs. This experience also reminded him of Shennong tasting hundreds of herbs.
Furthermore, when these plants were plucked from trees, or even uprooted, they had a time limit. Even in spatial storage, their spiritual energy dissipated several times faster than spirit stones.
Ye Mo was already considering creating a life space like the elves space, starting with a plant life space. She began to simulate design blueprints for the life space in her mind.
Of course, they also visited the volcanic rock area.
Just for their own safety, the two of them explored the edge of the volcanic rock mountain range, that is, a place where they can escape from the volcano at any time.
The most extraordinary trip lasted half a day.
Although Ye Mo was disappointed that she hadn’t managed to dig up any fire-element spirit jade, the increasingly aggressive and irritable dinosaurs, and the numerous injured ones, made her uneasy.
During this period, Watson had consumed tens of thousands of pounds of fire-avoidance grass, and Ye Mo had also eaten a considerable amount. The fire-avoidance grass did indeed help creatures resist the volatile fire spiritual energy.
In short, the risk factor was too high.
So, the two explored while waiting until only two and a half days remained before exiting the instance. They only needed to persist for two and a half days to leave.
With the risk factor significantly reduced, Ye Mo and Watson finally embarked on their volcanic journey.
Even so, at regular intervals, Ye Mo would dig holes in the low-lying and mid-mountain areas to check for underground volcanic eruption risks, thereby minimizing potential dangers.
The deeper they went into the volcanic rock, the more dinosaurs they found fighting each other, and the more injured dinosaurs there were. The injured pterosaurs who could not eat the spiritual stones were unwilling to escape death and go to the forest to escape.
If they did not take the fire-avoiding grass, even Ye Mo would feel anxious.
…
After more than 30 hours of travel, Ye Mo and Watson, while crossing a very high mountain range, actually felt a trace of coolness amidst the high temperatures.
“This is very strange…”
Of course it was strange. Ye Mo swept her mental energy around, went silent, and pushed Watson with her tail, preventing him from being frozen into a block of ice in the 60-degree high-temperature area.
Like the ice tyrannosaurus rex next door.
Uh, push again, push again…
Ye Mo frowned, her vast mental energy coalescing into a network, enveloping Watson within its range, and the world finally became quiet for the time being.
Watson trusted Ye Mo implicitly, letting her push him around, even cooperating quite well, until he finally landed on his feet and asked, “What’s wrong?”
