Jing Tian felt like he was having an out-of-body experience.
He turned his head cautiously to assess the situation, then quickly averted his gaze when he met Zheng Xunqian’s eyes, shifting his focus back to the screen.
The campus network was slow, and the download progress bar moved sluggishly.
With bated breath, Jing Tian stared at the computer screen, gripping the mouse tightly.
What should he do? It seemed like Zheng Xunqian had seen something.
But how much had he seen exactly? People are usually sensitive about their own names, and since Zheng Xunqian was at a distance and the page transition wasn’t fast, is it possible he didn’t see the other words clearly?
Zheng Xunqian broke Jing Tian’s self-deception with lightning speed.
“I’m quite curious,” he said, looking at Jing Tian’s profile with a calm demeanor, “How do you plan to handle this?”
In his panic, Jing Tian wanted to play dumb, but he ended up stuttering, “I-I, I… I don’t… know…”
He quickly realized he didn’t need to pretend; he was genuinely clueless.
What was in those emails? He had no idea.
He sent the emails, he typed the subjects, but now he was completely clueless, innocent to the core.
He was more curious than Zheng Xunqian about what his past self had written.
Afraid to meet Zheng Xunqian’s eyes, Jing Tian was sure he had been watching him the whole time, his face burning on one side.
As he screamed injustice in his mind, he involuntarily shrunk his neck and tilted his body unnaturally to one side.
“…Sorry.”
He apologized pitifully.
After a few seconds, an unexpected sound came from beside him.
It was a calm and gentle exhale, not hurried at all.
Surprised, Jing Tian turned his head, and indeed, Zheng Xunqian was smiling.
He didn’t look at Jing Tian again, slightly lowered his head, squinted his eyes, lowered his gaze, and even raised his hand, as if trying to conceal the corners of his lips, which were clearly uplifted at the moment.
But the laughter couldn’t be concealed, neither could the trembling of his shoulders. They were too obvious.
Jing Tian stared blankly at his face. His previous nervousness and unease were gradually replaced by another emotion.
“…I don’t remember anything.”
He finally had the courage to defend himself.
“Okay,” Zheng Xunqian still smiled, nodding, “Ignorance is bliss.”
With that, he raised his eyebrows again and looked at Jing Tian.
Their eyes met again, and Jing Tian became nervous again, but he no longer avoided the gaze.
“It should have been just a figure of speech, not serious…” he continued to explain.
Zheng Xunqian didn’t respond immediately.
He raised his hand toward Jing Tian, his fingertips just touching Jing Tian’s forehead, but quickly withdrew it. “Oh, so that’s how it is.”
Jing Tian could tell that his tone wasn’t sincere; it sounded more like teasing.
It made sense; no one would take such words seriously. This explanation was unnecessary.
He started feeling embarrassed again, but didn’t look away this time.
Because Zheng Xunqian was still smiling.
When he squinted his eyes, the coldness and seriousness that made him nervous and uneasy seemed to dissipate like mist under the noon sun, leaving behind the moist sensation on the skin and the inviting warmth.
Jing Tian couldn’t help but want to look at him a little longer.
The tablet on the table made a “ding” sound, reminding them that the download was complete.
But Zheng Xunqian seemed not to have heard it at all.
He stared directly into Jing Tian’s eyes and continued, “Are you now thinking that you used to dislike me?”
Jing Tian immediately shook his head.
He had such thoughts when he saw his own phone’s notes a few days ago.
But he wasn’t lying now; what he was thinking was that Zheng Xunqian looked really good when he smiled.
“Probably not,” Zheng Xunqian said again, “You liked me.”
Even if you’re good-looking, saying such a thing is shameless, Jing Tian thought.
Of course, he didn’t dare to say it.
Zheng Xunqian didn’t comment on his confident statement just now, but sat back calmly, looking at the tablet, and said, “It’s done.”
Jing Tian quickly glanced at him before operating it.
In the folder were many subfolders, containing not only all the compulsory courses for this semester but also the courses Jing Tian needed to retake.
Opening a subfolder, he found it neatly organized, with everything from course materials to summarized notes, detailed assignments, and exam points, all very detailed.
The notes were scanned copies, with clear handwriting, concise content, and well-organized, far superior to those provided by Zhang Yuewei a few days ago.
“The course materials have too much unnecessary information. You can refer to them for comparison,” Zheng Xunqian explained one by one, “I’ve added links to each knowledge point corresponding to the questions. Click here to jump directly, and we can go through them together later.”
This folder could practically save his life, and Jing Tian was extremely moved, his voice getting louder as he spoke: “Okay! Thank you! Thank you so much!”
“When are you planning to treat me to a meal?” Zheng Xunqian asked.
Jing Tian hesitated for a moment and said, “Anytime when we don’t have classes works for me. Whatever is convenient for you!”
Compared to his previous hesitation, his sincerity now came from the bottom of his heart.
Zheng Xunqian nodded. “Then how about now?”
Dinner time had already passed, and Jing Tian hadn’t eaten anything yet, so he was indeed a bit hungry.
He immediately nodded. “Sure.”
During high school, Jing Tian had a generous allowance.
After retrieving his payment account a few days ago, he confirmed his balance. Even though prices had risen in the past three years, it was still a considerable amount for a student.
Because of her job, his mother hadn’t had much time to spend with him since he was little, so she had always tried to compensate financially.
Jing Tian wanted to eat something good off-campus and familiarize himself with the surrounding area, but Zheng Xunqian said he didn’t feel like going too far and suggested the cafeteria instead.
“Aren’t you looking for memories?” Zheng Xunqian said. “I’ll take you to find them.”
“…Memories in the cafeteria?”
“We’ve been to many places together,” Zheng Xunqian said as they walked, “Let’s take a look whenever we have the chance. Maybe you’ll remember something.”
Jing Tian blinked but didn’t say anything.
“Are you still thinking about the emails earlier?” Zheng Xunqian asked.
He guessed correctly.
Jing Tian urgently wanted to know what he had said in those emails but didn’t want to open them in front of Zheng Xunqian, so he pretended not to care and deliberately avoided the topic.
Unexpectedly, Zheng Xunqian remembered.
“Let’s check them later,” Zheng Xunqian said. “After you’ve read them, remember to tell me. I’m curious about how you cursed at me.”
Jing Tian dared not promise or refuse, so he remained silent, pretending to be dead.
The cafeteria wasn’t far, just a five-minute walk.
Jing Tian had been there a few times these days, so he was quite familiar with it.
At this time, there weren’t many popular dishes left among the ready-made ones, so treating someone to a meal couldn’t be too casual.
“How about we go upstairs and order some food?” he suggested.
According to Yang Yue’s information, the second floor of this cafeteria operated independently and served excellent dishes. He really wanted to try it.
Zheng Xunqian nodded and then said, “The first time we talked was upstairs here.”
Even though they were in the same class, their first interaction happened in the school cafeteria.
“…What did we talk about?” Jing Tian asked.
Zheng Xunqian glanced at him and said, “You ran over and asked me if you could sit next to me during the afternoon exam.”
“Huh?” Jing Tian widened his eyes.
“Then you asked me to show you the answers as well.”
Jing Tian’s face turned red.
How could he have been so shameless as to make such an unreasonable request to a classmate he didn’t know at all?
“Oh, by the way,” Zheng Xunqian continued, “you also said you wanted to treat me to a meal.”
Jing Tian lowered his head and touched his hot face.
No matter what he looked like, his way of expressing gratitude remained the same.
“How did you respond then…?” he asked Zheng Xunqian.
Zheng Xunqian was silent for two seconds, then tilted his head and said, “If you don’t remember, forget it.”
Jing Tian thought to himself that it definitely wasn’t anything good.
As they spoke, they had already arrived on the second floor.
Zheng Xunqian pointed to a seat in the corner. “I think I was sitting there at the time.”
Jing Tian followed his gaze, intending to see the seat, but instead saw an unexpected face in his line of sight.
“…Senior?” he called out in a daze, softly.
Chu Chen Tao, who was about to leave, saw him and looked pleasantly surprised, but quickly realized something and shifted his gaze to the person beside him.
The air was quiet for a few seconds.
“Weren’t you planning to study?” Chu Chen Tao asked.
