He didn’t mention any of these follow-ups in the emails.
With over twenty emails going back and forth, the information was too much and too scattered. Jing Tian had read through them all in one go last night, but many details weren’t clear to him afterwards.
He only knew that he had been very upset afterwards, complaining a lot to Zheng Xunqian.
Not just that day, but all the incidents listed in the emails ultimately boiled down to one thing: Zheng Xunqian was cold and indifferent to him, which hurt him deeply and made him furious.
But why was he so persistent and kept provoking this person who he found extremely annoying?
He was like an unstoppable waterproof little firecracker, always agitated and ready to explode, insisting on charging straight towards Zheng Xunqian, burning himself in the process.
A terrorist.
And Zheng Xunqian always seemed to add fuel to the fire.
Surely, something else must have happened that day.
Just like Zheng Xunqian’s evasive response to him in the cafeteria that day, perhaps something else happened afterwards that made him so angry when he returned to his dorm.
“Did we spend a long time together that day?” Jing Tian asked.
Zheng Xunqian recalled for a moment. “Not long, just a few hours.”
“Besides taking the clothes to the laundry, did we do anything else?” Jing Tian asked again.
“…No, we just chatted during the time the clothes were being washed,” Zheng Xunqian said.
Jing Tian vaguely sensed the reason for his anger.
As they were talking, a few more customers came into the shop.
Seeing that all the seats were taken, and they were occupying seats while drinking milk tea, Jing Tian pointed to the bowl of noodles in front of Zheng Xunqian. “Are you going to finish this?”
Glancing at the strangers looking for seats nearby, Zheng Xunqian stood up. “Let’s go.”
Jing Tian had to attend a remedial class in the afternoon.
Originally, he planned to have lunch with Yang Yue in the cafeteria on the second floor and spend some time together before going directly to the classroom in the afternoon, so he brought his books with him.
Now, the timing became awkward.
Returning to the dormitory, he couldn’t stay long before he had to leave again to go directly to class, but it was also too early.
“Want to go with me to get the charger?” Zheng Xunqian asked him.
That was actually a good option to pass the time.
Jing Tian nodded. “Sure.”
As they walked a few steps together, Zheng Xunqian suggested, “Or, you can bring your tablet with you. We can find an empty classroom, and I’ll help you review from the basics.”
Jing Tian hesitated for a moment. “Thank you! But I have to go to class in less than an hour.”
Zheng Xunqian thought for a moment. “Then let’s go get the data cable after class. There’s no rush.”
The dormitory area and the teaching building were in two different directions, and it would be quite out of the way to make a special trip.
Jing Tian was casual about these details and nodded again.
“Okay, where do you live, and what’s your room number?” he asked. “I’ll make a note of it.”
Instead of answering directly, Zheng Xunqian said, “No need, I’ll take you there after class.”
“What?” Jing Tian didn’t quite understand for a moment.
“I’ll accompany you to class,” Zheng Xunqian said.
Jing Tian’s footsteps suddenly stiffened, and his pace noticeably slowed down.
Seeing this, Zheng Xunqian also slowed down his pace, turning his head to look at him. “What’s wrong?”
“…No need, it’s not necessary,” Jing Tian avoided looking at him, his gaze wandering around. “I can go by myself.”
Zheng Xunqian remained silent for a few seconds, then turned his gaze forward again without responding.
“It’s not necessary to go to so much trouble,” Jing Tian glanced at him and quickly looked away, walking with his head down, looking at the concrete floor in front of him. “I’ll come to pick it up after class.”
They walked a few more steps forward, and Zheng Xunqian finally spoke up, “But I want to go.”
Jing Tian couldn’t find the words to respond.
In the midst of their conversation, they arrived at a fork in the road.
After pausing for a few seconds, Jing Tian cautiously turned towards the right, while Zheng Xunqian decisively chose the same direction.
Jing Tian stopped immediately, turned around, and said, “How about we go get it now? We still have time, and it’s good to walk around a bit.”
Zheng Xunqian lowered his head to look at him, neither expressing agreement nor disagreement, nor moving.
Jing Tian took a shallow breath and mustered up the courage to raise his head to face Zheng Xunqian directly, asking, “Is that okay?”
“No,” Zheng Xunqian said.
Jing Tian felt like crying without tears.
“…You used to like spending time with me,” Zheng Xunqian said again.
Did I? Jing Tian thought to himself, I must have been driven half to death by you every time.
Zheng Xunqian quickened his pace and walked towards the teaching building. “You cheated during the draw to be in the same group with me in the first place.”
Jing Tian blinked twice and hurriedly caught up. “Huh?”
“Last semester’s lab class, we drew lots in pairs for groupings,” Zheng Xunqian glanced at him, “You secretly switched my lot, thinking I wouldn’t notice.”
This story sounded somewhat familiar.
Zheng Xunqian muttered with a touch of nostalgia, “How could I forget…”
“Was it the time we had to grade each other?” Jing Tian asked.
Zheng Xunqian paused in his steps.
Continuing, Jing Tian asked, “The time you gave me an unsatisfactory grade, right?”
Zheng Xunqian didn’t speak, silently walking forward, his pace slightly quickening, hinting at a sense of evasion.
“Was it when I was called up to the front by the teacher later?” Jing Tian chased after him tightly, confirming once again.
After a few more steps, Zheng Xunqian finally replied, “Your mind was not on the experiment at all, making a mess of everything.”
His tone was like he was justifying his past actions.
Jing Tian had no intention of blaming him and nodded, thinking, So I intentionally did that during the groupings.
Adding insult to injury, it was even more embarrassing.
Zheng Xunqian muttered quietly again, “How come you suddenly remembered…”
In fact, he didn’t remember it; he got the information from someone else.
Jing Tian didn’t explain, continuing to walk with his head down. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder about his past actions.
Zheng Xunqian said he liked him.
Perhaps that was a reasonable explanation.
But Chu Chen Tao said the same thing.
In his seventeen years of memory, he had never had a clear and strong affection for anyone.
But in the following three years, he started multiple lines of operation.
Jing Tian didn’t feel any realness in that.
“How much do you remember now?” Zheng Xunqian asked.
“…Very little.”
Jing Tian said.
Rounded up, it was almost nothing, much like his grasp of the subject in his morning class.
“Take it slow,” Zheng Xunqian said.
“I have a question!” Jing Tian said.
To bolster his courage, he spoke twice as loudly as before.
Zheng Xunqian quickly turned to look at him, gesturing for him to continue.
“At that time… did you…?” Jing Tian licked his lips, “Did you think I was annoying…?”
Zheng Xunqian looked forward again.
He slowed his pace slightly, and Jing Tian followed suit.
They walked side by side in silence, Jing Tian quietly waiting for a response. After half a block, he didn’t get one.
Zheng Xunqian remained silent.
Jing Tian belatedly realized that this was like an acquiescence.
Zheng Xunqian was always like this, unwilling to answer, pretending to be dead.
The questions he didn’t want to answer usually left him embarrassed.
A strange feeling slowly and unmistakably overflowed from his chest.
Indescribable and undefinable, but Jing Tian was sure he didn’t like this feeling.
“…You can go back,” he said, “I don’t need you to accompany me.”
Zheng Xunqian still didn’t respond.
Jing Tian thought to himself, From the past to the present, this person never listens to me.
Really annoying.
It wouldn’t be too much to curse at him a bit.
They could see the teaching building up ahead.
Jing Tian thought of saying something else, but before he could, his phone in his pocket vibrated.
It was a call from Teacher Xia.
“I heard from Zhang Yuewei that your current situation doesn’t look very optimistic,” Teacher Xia said with concern, “You were so serious last time, you’re not going to give up after just a few days, are you?”
Jing Tian hurriedly explained, “No, I’m studying hard! It’s just…”
It was just that he was lacking too much, and he hadn’t sorted things out yet. He needed to take it slow.
He had absolutely no intention of giving up. With the materials sent by Zheng Xunqian, he was full of confidence and motivation.
“He says your basics are quite weak, and you lack enthusiasm for studying,” Teacher Xia said, “Are you not communicating with him much?”
Indeed, he wasn’t communicating much, but it was definitely not because he didn’t want to study.
Jing Tian hesitated for a moment, furrowing his brows, then nodded. “Okay, I understand.”
“Don’t worry, he assured me, as long as you…”
“Wait a minute!” Jing Tian exclaimed in panic.
Teacher Xia heard it and was very puzzled, immediately asking something, but Jing Tian couldn’t hear clearly.
His phone was taken away.
Zheng Xunqian took Jing Tian’s phone from his hand, held it to his ear, and said, “Teacher Xia, it’s me.
It’s Zheng Xunqian.”
The other end must be very surprised, Jing Tian thought.
He tilted his head back, half-reaching out his hand, hesitating, unsure whether to take back the phone.
“He’s with me now,” Zheng Xunqian continued, “Teacher, don’t worry, leave it to me, no need to bother… that… Zhang… Li…”
Jing Tian quietly reminded from the side, “Zhang Yuewei!”
“No need to bother Zhang Yuewei.”
Zheng Xunqian continued.
Jing Tian sighed quietly.
The call ended quickly, and as Zheng Xunqian handed back the phone, he said, “The teacher asked me to be responsible for your studies.”
Jing Tian took it blankly, without speaking.
“…So I’ll go to class with you.”
Very straightforward, Jing Tian couldn’t find words to respond.
Without waiting for his reaction, Zheng Xunqian once again started walking towards the teaching building.
Jing Tian could only hurry to catch up.
The previous student responsible for tutoring him was too irresponsible, while this one seemed to be overly responsible.
Suddenly, something popped into Jing Tian’s mind.
On the day he lost his memory, in the dormitory corridor, Zheng Xunqian said to him that he had a request.
